#22 Fleetwood Mac |
|
Began as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Metamorphosis would have been another good name for Fleetwood Mac, as that is exactly what they did from the traditional British blues band that gave them their start to pop's mainstream blockbuster seller. In 1970 Peter Green left the band, and with it the blues as remaining members Danny Kirwan and Christine Perfect moved the band towards melodic rock. From this point on, including after "Rumours" in 1977, Fleetwood Mac would survive and prosper even under the most difficult of personnel changes. In the Top 100 Albums of All Time, Fleetwood Mac were recognized one time. |
With the greatest selling album of all time "Their Greatest Hits, 1971-1975" and over 100 million in record sales, The Eagles are undoubtedly one of the most accomplished rock & roll bands of all time. The group has a distinctive rock & roll presence that began with a country foundation (they formed in L.A.'s country-rock community) and ended up creating extremely well crafted pop tunes laced with hard rock guitars, beautiful harmonies and lyrics that were made to sing along with. In the Top 100 Albums of All Time, the Eagles were recognized one time. |
Marley is not only a pioneer because he single handily brought reggae to the world, but his music has become the meter for which all reggae music is gauged. Marley, with the help of Jimmy Cliff, formed the Wailers in 1963 (originally a vocal quartet) and launched their first single "Simmer Down," the biggest Jamaican hit of 1964. They shortly after disbanded and Marley left for the states to be near his mother. He returned in the latter 60's to once again pursue his musical aspirations; during this time he began practicing the Rastafarian faith, which would become a major influence on his life and music. In the Top 100 Albums of All Time Marley was recognized one time. |

Box Sets contain hit Berry singles such as "Roll Over Beethoven" "Nadine" "Johnny B. Goode " and "Sweet Little Sixteen"

A rocker of the people, his fervent and sincere insight about everyday life, especially in America's small towns and the working class heart-land, made him a rock & roll superstar in the 80's. His life represented American way; his mother a secretary, his father a bus driver, his home in an average New Jersey town, and his success, fortune and fame all self-made by the sweat of his brow and artistic vision. He is a true believer in rock & roll and its mythic past and considered to be among the most thoughtful and articulate artists in rock. In the Top 100 Albums of All Time, Springsteen was recognized twice. |
#27 Sly & the Family Stone |
In the late 60's Sly and the Family Stone exploded into rock & roll with their unique and never before seen hybrid of pop, soul, and rock that drew white and black audiences alike. Along with James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone virtually invented 70's funk, and their impact has proved to be widespread and long lasting. In the Top 100 Albums of All Time, Sly & the Family Stone were recognized one time. |
At the beginning of the 80's U2 began as an unknown alternative group and ended the century as one of the most popular bands on earth. Their songs tackle social and spiritual matter with an open, and very often, tender urgency. They initially did not take to the electronic gimmicks that were so popular in the 80's, but later came to use different approaches to create groundbreaking sounds that propelled them to one of the most adventurous acts in rock & roll. In the Top 100 Albums of All Time, U2 was recognized twice. |
