"Blue Mitchell, Blue's Moods (2LPs Low #139 Pressing) - 45 speed"

BLUE MITCHELL - BLUE MOODS - 45 RPM SEALED 2 LP SET LIMITED EDITION NUMBERED #138 OF THE 1000 PIECES EVER PRESSED. Here's How it was done: Using only the original analog master tapes, the renowned team of Steve Hoffman & Kevin Gray remastered and cut all of the titles at AcousTech Mastering, which features a pure Class-A disc-cutting system. AcousTech is located at Record Technology, Inc. the plant where the vinyl was pressed. It is a tremendous sonic advantage to have the pressing plant plating department & mastering room in the same facility as Steve & Kevin could cut a lacquer and plated immediately. This prevents the degradation of the grooves in a lacquer which is very fragile to quick deterioration. And of course cutting at 45 speed is the audiophile choice for the highes quality. A 45-RPM record is sonically superior to a 33 1/3 variety because of a 35 percent reduction of groove curvature compared to a 33 1/3 cut.. It means that while you can't fit as much music into a 45, the undukations of the groove that your cartridge has to track are stretched over a longer distance. For these reissues, the music was displaced onto four sides, meaning each side contains about 10 minutes of music. This is the ultimate reissues. The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session. Blue Mitchell possessed one of the truly individual trumpet sounds: richly melodic but always strong -- clearly in the tradition of Clifford Brown, but very much his own voice. The series of Riverside albums that established him on the jazz scene, beginning at the end of the 1950s, usually presented him in at least three-horn ensembles; this was his only quartet set. Fully in the spotlight, Mitchell moves most effectively through a widely varied repertoire that covers standards, blues, originals and a Charlie Parker classic. There is flawless rhythm support from all-stars Wynton Kelly and Sam Jones and drummer Roy Brooks (Blue's bandmate during part of his many years with the Horace Silver Quintet). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. I'll Close My Eyes 2. Avars 3. Scrapple From The Apple 4. Kinda Vague 5. Sir John 6. When I Fall In Love 7. Sweet Pumpkin 8. I Wish I Knew

The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session. To a great many people, the name of Charlie Byrd and the updated samba beat known as bossa nova will always be intertwined. The guitarist did play a most important role in the introduction into this country of the compelling Brazilian rhythm-first on that major hit with Stan Getz and then on his own Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros. But before, during, and after the craze, Byrd was capable of much more-a remarkable impoviser and a richly versatile in-person performer. This 1963 "live" session at a celebrated New York club, the Village Gate, offers a little South American flavor and a lot of other jazz elements, including the guest appearance of trumpet great Clark Terry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. The undeniably erratic early career of Chet Baker involved roller-coaster extremes and musical paradoxes. In the Fifties, his sound and approach were often compared to Miles Davis, although his greatest successes came in a West Coast setting with Gerry Mulligan's cool, piano-less quartet and often emphasized ballads and soft-toned vocals. But this album shows Baker in a unique direct assault in Davis territory, including a couple of tunes associated with Miles; and above all with a driving East Coast supporting cast made up of tough-tenor Johnny Griffin, bebop veteran Al Haig and frequent Davis colleagues Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. COLEMAN HAWKINS - HAWK RELAXES - 45 RPM SEALED 2 LP SET #140 Pressing. Here's How it was done: Using only the original analog master tapes, the renowned team of Steve Hoffman & Kevin Gray remastered and cut all of the titles at AcousTech Mastering, which features a pure Class-A disc-cutting system. The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session. 45 Speed - 2 Sealed LP Set - #140 Despite the inherent modesty of its title, The Hawk Relaxes is far more than merely a tenor saxophonist - albeit one of the greatest who ever lived - at his ease. Recorded for Prestige's Moodsville subsidiary, the album presents Coleman Hawkins, paterfamilias of the tenor and one of its master balladeers. As he grew older, Hawkins often made it a point to perform with much younger musicians, in order to keep his work fresh. Pianist Ronnell Bright, 30 years old at the time of this recording, was the oldest of Hawkins' accompanists herein, while drummer Andrew Cyrille was, at just 21, the junior partner. With the multifaceted guitarist Kenny Burrell and bassist Ron Carter, at the dawn of what would be a ubiquitously brilliant career, rounding out a highly simpatico group, Hawkins adroitly weaves his way rhapsodically through seven timeless popular songs that lend themselves to his signature harmonic brilliance.

IT'S NOW OUT OF PRINT & ONE OF THE RAREST SACD'S IN EXISTENCE. I knew a couple of Zombies songs from a while back, but the sound from LP's and tapes was never good. The sound on this SACD remix is vastly superior. It's not perfect, with still a little hiss, but there is much less distortion than the original mix. Also most of the recordings were apparently done with excellent recorders (for the time) because the high-end frequencies are all there! The sound is nearly transparent, like you're actually there in the studio. Back to the music itself, I discovered several great songs that I didn't expect to find. It's quite a blast from the past, and well worth the money. Track Listings 1. She's Not There 2. I Can't Make Up My Mind 3. Tell Her No 4. You Make Me Feel Good 5. Kind Of Girl 6. Leave Me Be 7. The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session. One of the pieces on this album is called "The Blues Machine," which could stand as a description of the big band Count Basie operated for half a century. In the 1983 edition, Basie molded the talents of a mixture of veterans and relative newcomers to produce the immediately identifiable Basie sound and spirit. "Count Basie, Farmer's Market Barbecue #140 LP"

COUNT BASIE'S BIG BAND - FARMER'S MARKET - 45 RPM SEALED 2 LP SET LIMITED EDITION NUMBERED #140 OF THE 1000 PIECES EVER PRESSED. 45 Speed - 2 Sealed LP Set - #140 From his earliest days in territory bands in the Southwest, Count Basie had a secret: How to make a collection of instrumentalists generate rhythmic thrust so irresistible that no listener's foot could remain motionless. Basie's swing was the opposite of tense. Relaxed is what it was, and powerful. Through five and a half decades, Basie never lost the ability to infect a band with his swing magic. This edition of his swing machine, recorded just a couple of years before his death, is evidence of the continuing force of that magic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Way Out Basie 2. St. Louis Blues 3. Beaver Junction 4. Lester Leaps In 5. Blues For The Barbecue 6. I Don't Know Yet 7. Ain't That Something 8. Jumpin' At The Woodside

The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session. After four years of nearly nonstop performing, CCR sounds as polished and tight as ever on this album. Of the two hit singles from the LP, "Hey Tonight" and "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?," the latter's slower ballad format clearly suggests the band was exploring new areas of its music, including a developing emphasis on instrumentals. With this swing of the pendulum, the creative tasks would in the future be shared by all members of the group. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1.
