"Zoot Sims & Harry Sweets Edison, Just Friends"
ZOOT SIMS & HARRY SWEETS EDISON - JUST FRIENDS
FACTORY SEALED LP
While Zoot & Sweets did record together during their "peak" years in the late 1950's, to my knowledge they never cut an LP where they were the two prime movers as Edison did with Ben Webster (see Ben and Sweets). At least not until this Pablo Session from 1978. But it was worth the wait. This ALBUM features Edison and Sims backed by only a rhythm section and trading riffs over 8 charts and 42 minutes of music. There's still plenty of creativity and swinging to go around. On a few tunes Roger Kellaway opts for an electric piano which gives it "that 70's feeling" but otherwise it's a solid collection of standards, blues and ballads. Recommended if you like the small group swing genre.

Art Blakey, Kyoto"
On "Kyoto," we find the greatest edition of the Jazz Messengers at the peak of their musical prowess. The year is 1964, a watershed year for jazz, and Art Blakey's group made classic contributions to help make it memorable
"Kyoto," one of three albums the Messengers made for the Riverside label, was actually recorded on February 20, 1964. The compositions feature impeccable frontline arrangements and solos by Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and Curtis Fuller, and stellar rhythmic support by Cedar Walton, Reggie Workman and the Art-ist himself. In all, "Kyoto" is a welcome addition to those rounding out their Blakey collections.

Charles Lloyd, Discovery"
CHARLES LLOYD DISCOVERY - OUT OF PRINT & TREMENDOUSLY RARE IN THE COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESSING.
Charles Lloyd's recorded debut as a leader was made while he was a member of the Cannonball Adderley Sextet. Doubling on tenor and flute, Lloyd teamed up with pianist Don Friedman, either Eddie Khan or Richard Davis on bass, and Roy Haynes or J.C. Moses on drums. This out-of-print LP has among its highlights "Little Piece" (dedicated to Booker Little), "Days of Wine and Roses," "Sweet Georgia Bright," and the initial full-length version of "Forest Flower." Lloyd's Coltrane-inspired sound was already in place, and his flute playing was becoming distinctive. The music is essentially melodic but advanced hard bop, a strong start to an important career.

They make it sound so effortless: two masters of their instruments (who also happened to be husband & wife) grooving smoothly through another organ/tenor sax recording of funk and blues plus a fine moody rendition of "Flamingo." The Ramones, End Of The Century - Colored Vinyl"
END OF THE CENTURY -
This is my generation's Exile on Main St., totally misunderstood by idiot critics (and seemingly, the Ramones themselves. Only Joey seemed to dig it) Here, the Ramones stake their claim to the whole of American Rock 'n Roll, not just parochial NYC punk, and Phil Spector (who legitimately loved this band) justifies his own sorry existence by giving them the gift of the biggest wall of sound he ever came up with. After this album, Johnny stole Joey's girlfriend and the magic was gone, they started claiming individual song credits, they brought in ringers to play guitar solos on the albums, DeeDee started shooting up again, Joey started boozing and not caring, and the band went down the toilet. But this record just sounds better and better with each passing year. (Except "Chinese Rocks" -- interesting to hear the boys jump from household solvents to hard drugs, but Johnny Thunders friggin' OWNS this song; Joey just ain't a convincing junkie. Still, the tune's darkness adds to E of the C's stylistic diversity). Did I say my generation's Exile on Main St? It's also my generations White Album and London Calling.

The Ramones, Rocket To Russia - Colored Vinyl"
ROCKET TO RUSSIA -
Among Creem magazine's predictions for 1977 was the claim that the Ramones would make three No. 1 singles but that none would chart. Well, "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" and "Do You Wanna Dance" did make the 80s on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Rockaway Beach" went all the way to No. 66, but the point basically stands: Two-minute blasts of power chords, speedy tempos, and praise of fun in the sun weren't where it was at for radio in the year JOURNEY hired STEVE PERRY. Rocket to Russia, the home of those semi-hits, is still many fans' favorite Ramones long-player, thanks not only to those near misses but also to the fervor of "Cretin Hop," the scene celebration of "Ramona," and the anthemic pout of "I Don't Care." They did, though--they really, really did

"Jimi Hendrix, Tribute - In From The Storm - Vinyl Picture Disc"
JIMI HENDRIX - TRIBUTE - IN FROM THE STORM - NEW/Never Played - On Limited FIRST Edition OUT OF PRINT Vinyl PICTURE DISC. THESE PICTURE DISCS COME WITH A PLASTIC PROTECTIVE COVER BUT DOESN'T HAVE A JACKET.
There is no reason why this album should be below 5 stars. Before Jimi Hendrix perished, he said that his dream was to be able to see other cats jamming to his music and his goal in the seventies was to be a formal student of music theory and to jam with a live orchestra. When I got this album I got chills on my spine because of the musical impact and of what I read in past Hendrix interviews. Miles Davis was stunned by the young guitarist's capabilities. Gil Evans wanted to start a project with Jimi Hendrix. Both Jazz inovator and Conducter were left influenced and inspired. This album, In From The Storm is proof of how professional musicians of all genres became influenced and passionate of Jimi Hendrix's music. To conclude, this album is great and to hear Santana, Sting, John Mclaughlin, Stanley Clarke and the London PhilHormononic Ochestra was just awesome.

This fine set from april, 1957 has two baritone saxophone players joining up with coltrane's tenor. Cecil Payne and Pepper Adams deliver fine performances on an album that is quite conventional when compared with what was soon to come from john coltrane. nevertheless, Mr. Trane hits many a moment of intensity here, and fans of his later work should enjoy this release. Also has the excellent piano man Mal Waldron is on board, too. It's a session that is well worth having and tremendously rare on vinyl.

Editorial Reviews
Johnny Cash's five-decade musical career was loaded with bigger-than-life landmark moments. None were more memorable than the Man in Black's historic concerts at Folsom Prison and San Quentin State Prison, and the beloved albums that documented those shows. Cash's passion for prison reform and rehabilitation inspired him to perform a series of concerts for inmate audiences, and two of these unique events were documented on Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison and Johnny Cash at San Quentin. These albums, originally released in 1968 and 1969 respectively, remain among Cash's best-selling and best-loved recordings. At the time of their original release, they revitalized his career, and played a crucial role in his crossover from the country music world to the mainstream pop charts.
Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison fully captures Cash's gritty intensity and hard-headed humanity, capturing a high-energy set performed for an equally spirited audience. With a set list tailored for the occasion, Cash focuses on songs dealing with crime and imprisonment, balancing dark subject matter with wry, playful humor. The album opens, appropriately enough, with the venerable "Folsom Prison Blues," and continues with such outlaw anthems as "Cocaine Blues," "25 Minutes to Go, "The Wall" and "I Got Stripes," alongside such Cash classics as "I Still Miss Someone," "Orange Blossom Special" and "Jackson," with the latter track featuring Cash's wife and frequent duet partner June Carter. The album closes on an inspirational note with "Greystone Chapel," a song written by convict Glen Shirley, which Cash and his band learned especially for this show.
Perhaps even more so than its predecessor, Johnny Cash at San Quentin captures Cash at his most raw and uninhibited. The artist's raucous rapport with his captive audience is obvious on an inspired mix of Cash classics ("I Walk the Line," "Folsom Prison Blues"), jailhouse ballads ("Starkville City Jail," "San Quentin"), traditional tunes ("Wreck of the Old 97," "There'll Be Peace in the Valley") and well-chosen covers (Bob Dylan's "Wanted Man," the Lovin' Spoonful's "Darling Companion"). The album's most popular track, though, remains the Shel Silverstein-penned novelty number "A Boy Named Sue," which became the biggest hit single of Cash's career.

"Johnny Cash, 16 Greatest Hits"
JOHNNY CASH - 16 GREATEST HITS - AUDIOPHILE PRESSING FACTORY SEALED LP
Johnny Cash was a country legend even during his lifetime, although, or perhaps because, he was very different from the numerous country singers with checkered shirts. When performing he chose to wear black as a symbol of solidarity with the oppressed and those who had no rights. His chosen outlaw image was just as convincing as the train-like boom-tiddy-boom sound of his rhythm group who lent their typical sound to many of his 500 songs. THIS COLLECTION Features Johnny's all-time greatest songs, including "I Walk The Line," "Ring Of Fire," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Man In Black" and "A Boy Named Sue."

"Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Keep On Moving - 150 Gram - First Edition - Limited Edition"
PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND - KEEP ON MOVING- 150 Gram Limited Edition classic LP high-definition Virgin Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 2005 1ST EDITION RELEASE ON 150 GRAM HIGH QUALITY VINYL.
One of the last truly fine outings by the band that started the avalanche of electric blues outfits is now available as a high-definition, exact-replica LP. The Butterfield Blues Band had reloaded by the time 1969's Keep On Moving was released on Elektra Records – Paul Butterfield startled the world with the addition of guitarist Buzzy Feiten, a man whose take-no-prisoners style turned out to be a muscular combination of the sound of his two predecessors, Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop. Led by Butterfield wailing on lead vocals and his patented Southside of Chicago harmonica licks, the band sounded as powerful as ever with a new horn section that included David Sanborn on alto sax, Gene Dinwiddie on tenor and Keith Johnson on trumpet. It wouldn't last forever, but Paul Butterfield proved with Keep On Moving that he had plenty of Hi-Octane gas left in the tank.

PINK FLOYD - MEDDLE - THE COLLECTORS JAPAN PRESSING EMS80322 ANALOG EMI TREMENDOUSLY RARE LIMITED EDITION VINYL STEREO PRESSING. LONG OUT OF PRINT. IN MINT CONDITION
OUR LP'S HAVE BEEN RECENTLY PLAY TESTED AND CLEANED ON A VPI RECORD CLEANING MACHINE TO ENSURE THERE QUALITY AS GRADED.
For all that menacing, hatchet-happy growl at the beginning of Meddle's opener, "One of These Days," Pink Floyd really weren't about to "cut you into little pieces." Meddle did, however, show that the reigning British monarchs of 1970s-era psychedelia could rip into galloping jams. It also showed what its predecessor, Atom Heart Mother, promised--that the band could excel in long, breathtaking suites that revealed strains of late-classical music, Sun Ra-inspired space explorations, and a patchwork approach to colliding sounds that together took on acid-drenched proportions. And if all that isn't enough, "San Tropez" revealed a playful side of the band, playing footsy with loungy jazz and having good fun in the process

Whenever Paul McCartney's storied life has hit personal or professional hard times, he's wisely returned--figuratively and literally--to his musical foundations. In the Beatles' final, troubled days, it was Get Back, the aborted return-to-roots project salvaged as Let It Be, and during his late-'80s solo doldrums it was the '50s rave-up CHOBA B CCCP (a.k.a. the "Russian Album"). In the wake of Linda's passing, McCartney "gets back" to a motley dozen '50s hits, B-sides, and obscurities, and pens three surprising originals that neatly fit their mold. Using a band of seasoned British vets (including Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour and Mick Green from Johnny Kidd & the Pirates on guitars, and Deep Purple's Ian Paice on drums) whose own unbridled affection for this music radiates from every track, McCartney tackles the familiar (Gene Vincent's "Blue Jean Bop," Elvis Presley's "All Shook Up") and unfamiliar (the Vipers' UK skiffle hit "No Other Baby," Carl Perkins's "Movie Magg") alike with enthusiasm, if not slavish devotion, as witnessed by his nifty zydeco revamp of Chuck Berry's "Brown Eyed Handsome Man." The Mac originals "Try Not to Cry" and "What It Is" (and the choice of Ricky Nelson's "Lonesome Town") seem to deal not-so-obliquely with his love and loss, yet are delivered with an upbeat confidence that seem to belie his mourning. In the end, Run Devil Run may be as much personal exorcism as it is loving musical recapitulation, and McCartney is in peak vocal form throughout
