"Moby Grape, ST - 150 Gram LP"

MOBY GRAPE - S/T - 150 Gram Limited Edition Even one of the most misguided marketing campaigns in history couldn't obscure the sheer brilliance of this San Francisco-based quintet's self-titled 1967 debut. Guitarist Skip Spence was the original Jefferson Airplane drummer, and lead guitarists Peter Lewis and Jerry Miller, bassist Bob Mosley, and drummer Don Stevenson were seasoned garage-band veterans. Everybody sang, everybody wrote songs, and their musical influences were quite diverse. The album, however, was a sold seller and remains the rock upon which the group's reputation still exists. "Hey Grandma" and "Omaha" are two of the most profound singles to come out of San Francisco in 1967. If there is a theme to the album, it is live for the moment. The LP jacket is exact to the original with the old finger on the washboard with a poster also included. Some consider this 1967 debut to be the most impressive of the San Francisco rock revolution. Not a wasted moment, and the Grape do jam. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Omaha 2. Hey Grandma 3. Fall On You 4. Changes 5. "Modern Jazz Quartet, Concorde"

The first Modern Jazz Quartet sessions recorded for release as a 12-inch LP also featured the debut of Connie Kay, who replaced Kenny Clarke on drums. The expanded recording time afforded by the new configuration allowed the group to put together a program approximating a live performance: "Ralph's New Blues" leads off, a showcase for the easy-swinging soul of vibraphonist Milt Jackson and the ever-elegant fulcrum of the quartet, pianist John Lewis. Percy Heath sets down an eloquent walking bass pattern or repeats the melody in a rondo format, while Kay adds subtle pulse and appropriat punctuation. Lewis and Jackson also display remarkable empathy on the ballads "All of You" and "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise." The sprightly set-closing title track employs all of the unit's strengths. Track Listings 1. Ralph's New Blues 2. All Of You 3. I'll Remember April 4. Gershwin Medley 5. Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise 6. Concorde

"Mongo Santamaria At The Village Gate"

Early in 1963, Mongo Santamaria accomplished something that even then was a rarity in the world of American pop music. His band's instrumental single reached the magic inner circle: the Top Ten on Billboard Magazine's official best-seller chart. That song was "Watermelon Man," which you won't find on this album. But what you will find here is eight other examples of the distinctive blend of jazz, funk, and Latin music that Mongo had created; brought vividly ot public attention by his hit single, it made him a headliner and provided a musical role model for countless jazz and rock groups in years to come. This album, recorded in the fall of '63 at a celebrated New York jazz club, captures all the excitement and audience appeal of the unique Santamaria style. Introduciotn by "Symphony Sid," "El Toro,"Fatback," "Mongo's Groove," "Creole," "The Jungle Bit," "My Sound," "The Morning After," "Nothing for Nothing" plus CD bonus track "Para Ti." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. THE STAR STUDDED ARTISTS ARE - MONGO SANTAMARIA - LEADER & CONGA DRUM, AEMANDO PERAZA BONGO'S, GRANT GREEN - TENOR SAXOPHONE, ERIC GALE GUITAR, CHUCK RAINEY BASS, EDDIE GUA GUA RIVERA ELECTRIC BASS, STANLEY TURRENTINE TENOR SAXOPHONE "Skin on skin," Mongo Santamaria once said is what makes the sound that can move you. Mongo makes that sound every time his tough, but flexible hands hit the skins of the conga drum or the bongos. There is no like him. He is king of the conga drum, master of all and a mysterious initiate in the arcane rhythms that begin deep within the Cuban culture. The musical concept of Mongo, which is the prototype musical concept of all true Latin musicians - they believe in melody with rhythmic accents. Stressing the melody and playing the rhythm in a melodic manner gives the music a singing quality often lacking in instrumental performances. Track Listings 1. TELL IT 2. THE LETTER 3. LISTEN HERE 4. "Muddy Waters, Muddy Mississippi Waters Live" - Product Image

"Muddy Waters, Muddy Mississippi Waters Live"

MUDDY "MISSISSIPPI"WATERS - LIVE with JOHNNY WINTER ON GUITAR The audience is totally into it, both on this song and the entire album--screaming, yelling, whistling, shouting--making this almost as exciting as "James Brown at the Apollo," and certainly among the best live blues ever recorded. The group is unbelievably talented and plays with great empathy: Muddy Waters on vocals and guitar, "Pine Top" Perkins (piano), James Cotton (harp), additional guitar from Johnny Winter, Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, and many others. I don't hear any softening of Muddy Waters' voice; he is as authoritative, soulful, and unique as ever. Muddy Waters set a very high (probably unsurpassed) standard for anyone who followed. It's sheer delight to hear his inventive singing and slide guitar so well recorded and backed. Perhaps one of the most memorable concert I ever attended was a late 1970's performance at the Roxy in L.A. As Muddy Waters walked up to the stage, I felt a sense of transcendentalism, as if History were climbing the stairs. And then he tore the roof off. Although only about 40 minutes long (and with notes limited to personnel descriptions), the music on this ALBUM recaptured some of that experience for me. Along with "Mannish Boy" and the great "She's Nineteen Years Old," other Morganfield compositions (there's one number written by Sonny Boy Williamson) include "Streamline Woman," "Baby Please Don't Go," "Howling Wolf," and "Deep Down in Florida." 'Wolf' features Waters' bee-stingingly intense slide guitar, one that can righteously cut through the thickest, meanest heart and soul. With just a few perfectly played notes, Waters' slide guitar dredges buckets of emotion. "Gainesville'--perhaps the best song here ("Yeah I believe I'll go back to Gainesville...just to see an old friend of mine.")--has amazing solos by "Pine Top" Perkins, Johnny Winter, and James Cotton, who blows some of the purest and most stirring harp notes in blues. This is the liturgy of the blues, the thick ooze of the traditional and the familiar wrapped with enough personal style to uncover new emotion. Powerful, raw, and spine tingling, this is the blues as only McKinley "Muddy Waters" Morganfield could play it. MUDDY WATERS - MUDDY "MISSISSIPPI" WATERS - LIVE Track Listings 1. Mannish Boy 2. She's Nineteen Years Old 3. Nine Below Zero 4. Steamline Woman 5. Howling Wolf 6. Baby Please Don't Go 7. Deep Down In Florida

"Muddy Waters, Electric Mud" - Product Image

"Muddy Waters, Electric Mud"

MUDDY WATERS - ELECTRIC MUD - Out of Print Rare Analog LP - Warning: "Electric Mud" is a blues album with heavy psychedelic rock influences! If you consider yourself to be a blues purist, then I would encourage you to look elsewhere for something that will be more compatible with your musical tastes. With that disclaimer out of the way, let me invite those who are seeking something unusual--and especially those who like sixties rock music--to continue reading on. I consider this to be one of most original albums that I have ever heard. It is not a true blues album, but rather a concept album of blues with a heavy psychedelic rock influence. The idea for this album had its genesis with Marshall Chess, the son of Leonard Chess of Chess Records. Marshall Chess had just founded a new label named Cadet Concept, and this was the second album produced under the new label. When this album was recorded, Waters' career was in a slump; it had been a decade since he had a top ten hit. Marshall Chess was seeking out a new audience for Muddy Waters. The basic instrumentation on this album includes a heavily distorted guitar (often with wah-wah pedal), fuzz-tone electric bass, saxophone, synthesizer, and drums. This is quite a stretch from the trademark Muddy Waters sound! The ALBUM points out that "five of the eight songs on 'Electric Mud' were 'classics' from his catalogue, songs he had sung hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times. So the Main Man sang as he always had. His accompaniment, however, was very much of the moment." It is well known that many of the rock musicians of the sixties had blues influences. Now, here is a genuine bluesman cutting an album with new renditions of his songs, such as "I Just Want To Make Love To You," "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man," and "Mannish Boy," in more of a rock style. There is even a cover of the Rolling Stones hit "Let's Spend The Night Together." Wouldn't you agree that's a cool concept for an album? The vocals are one of the strong selling points of this album, and Muddy Waters has a great voice. The lyrics include occasional social commentary appropriate for the times. All of the musicians on this album were highly regarded studio players. I have tried to be as helpful as possible by warning the prospective buyer about what this album is about, but I hope that blues purists will not be offended by my saying that I really like this album. To be sure, it is not for everyone, but it is for me. I think that "Electric Mud" is very original and unique, and I value having it as a part of my collection.

"Muddy Waters, Hard Again (w/ Johnny Winter)"

It's seems strange now to think of Muddy Waters having to make a "comeback," but that's what the 1977 HARD AGAIN came down to. The great blues man's first post-Chess recording after 30 years with that company, it marked Waters major-label debut and eventually went gold. The over-60 Waters lived up to all the attention with one of his most energetic, sustained performances, bettering his original version of "Mannish Boy," pushing "Bus Driver" to a raging peak, and generally sounding like the wisest man on record. Harp player James Cotton and producer-guitarist Johnny Winter are among the support; they both stay out of Waters way and give as good as they get. Tracks include: Mannish Boy - Bus Driver - I Want To Be Loved - Jealous Hearted Man - I Can't Be Satisfied - The Blues Had A Baby And They Named It Rock And Roll - Deep Down In Florida -. Cross-eyed Cat - Little Girl

"Muddy Waters, I'm Ready"

Classic Analog LP Pressing MUDDY WATERS - I'M READY WITH JOHNNY WINTER ON GUITAR - Out of Print PRESSING FROM THE ORIGINAL LABEL RE-ISSUE CBS BLUE SKY RECORDS SEALED LP PZ34928 and one of the last pieces left in the world from this final pressing.- For the middle album of his Johnny Winter-produced, late-'70s music trilogy, blues giant Muddy Waters brought a new spirit to some familiar material. Starting with members of Waters' touring band - Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith - Winter added underrated guitarist (and longtime Waters foil) Jimmy Rogers and extraordinary harp player Big Walter Horton to the mix. The songs recorded for I'm Ready offer a mix of new material and vintage hit singles like the title cut, the mid-'60s jewel "Screamin' and Cryin'," or the Willie Dixon-penned "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man." Johnny Winter provides a sensitive production touch. With old hands James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Rogers, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Bob Margolin, Jerry Portnoy and Walter Horton. Walters is fully in command again, inspired and roaring as the players fall under his spell. Track Listings 1. I'm Ready 2. 33 Years 3. Who Do You Trust 4. Copper Brown 5. "Muddy Waters, King Bee"

Classic Analog Out Of Print LP Pressing. Muddy Waters' final album, KING BEE is the last of the three late-seventies/early eighties-albums produced by Texas blues guitarist Johnny Winter, -- its two excellent predecessors, "Hard Again" and "I'm Ready. 66-year old Waters is backed by virtually the same band that he worked with on "Hard Again" and "I'm Ready", and the arrangements are superb, making even somewhat mediocre songs like the light-weight "Champagne And Reefer" and the generic "Too Young To Know" work quite well. : There's the classic, shuffling "Mean Old Frico Blues", Muddy Waters' fine take on Slim Harpo's "King Bee", the slow blues "Sad Sad Day", the supremely funky "(My Eyes) Keep Me In Trouble", and the acoustic masterpiece "I Feel Like Going Home" (superb Son House-inspired slide guitar playing by Johnny Winter). The power and brute force of Muddy ripping through these great is something to behold. A good collection of solid, professionally executed blues music which will certainly appeal to Muddy-fans. Track Listing "I'm a King Bee" "Too Young to Know" "Mean Old Frisco Blues" "Forever Lonely" "I Feel Like Going Home" "Champagne & Reefer" "Sad Sad Day" "(My Eyes) Keep Me in Trouble" "Deep Down in Florida, # 2" "No Escape from the Blues"

NEIL DIAMOND - 12 SONGS FACTORY SEALED Analog LP - High definition analog vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. The 2005 release of Neil Diamond's stripped-down, Rick Rubin-produced 12 Songs was another highlight for the singer/songwriter in a long, successful career. "One of the year's most eagerly awaited albums pairs an oldies showman and pop balladeer with edgy producer Rick Rubin on what could have been an excruciatingly hip reclamation project. Instead, Rubin succeeds in taking Diamond away from his sparkly jumpsuits and polished stagecraft to the basic tasks of singing and songwriting. In addition to his excellent skills as a songwriter, Neil Diamond is also known for his bold, often theatrical performance style. One glance at the cover of HOT AUGUST NIGHT--Diamond clothed in denim and Native American jewelry, with his hands hovering over his body, and an expression suggesting a trance of intensity--and the listener knows he or she is in for some serious performing. The pop icon delivers as expected; HOT AUGUST NIGHT, recorded in 1972 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, documents the epic showmanship of a Neil Diamond concert. Listeners will certainly get their money's worth. Diamond's best-loved songs stuff the two-disc, 25-track set list--the ubiquitous "Sweet Caroline," the infectious "Song Sung Blue," et al, plus versions of "Red Red Wine" and "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon," which he wrote, but were also hits for others. An energetic backing band and a full string section complement the singer's impassioned performances, and an encore medley of "Soolaimon" and "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" brings the show to a fiery close. HOT AUGUST NIGHT remains one of Diamond's best-selling albums. Give it a listen and see why. MFSL LIMITED EDITION. "Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Sleeps With Angels (2 LPs)"

Neil Young's first studio album since the platinum Harvest Moon finds him back with Crazy Horse for an eclectic set of songs that range from deeply personal mediatations on love to clear-eyed observations on life in the '90s. Framed by two fragile solo performances - "My Heart" and "A Dream That Can Last" - "Sleeps With Angels" is among the most wide-ranging albums Neil has ever recorded. Including everything from crashing rockers like "Piece of Crap" (a bitterly funny swipe at disposable consumer culture) to the 21st century grunge of "Blue Eden" to the classic Crazy Horse jamming on the epic "Change Your Mind," the album both acknowledges past glories and blazes new trails. Neil remains among the few performers who can straddle the gap between Woodstock boomers and Lollaplooza X'ers. Neil and Crazy Horse were filmed extensively during the recording of the album. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. My Heart 2. Prime Of Life 3. Driveby 4. Sleeps With Angels 5. Western Hero 6. Change Your Mind 7. Blue Eden 8. Train Of Love 9. Trans Am 10. Piece Of Crap 11. A Dream That Can Last
