What a shame that the men on this front line are all long since departed. Take the impeccable taste of Nelson's tenor and his compositional and arrangement talents, the boundless creativity of Eric Dolphy's alto, and the vastly underrated power of Richard Williams's trumpet, and you have all the ingredients for a powerhouse recording. "Screamin' the Blues" proves to be just that.
If you're familiar with Nelson's wonderful "Blues and the Abstract Truth" recording, you'll be surprised by "Screamin' the Blues," which is much earthier and much hotter. Williams's trumpet, for example, is scorching throughout, particularly on "March On, March On," and "The Meeting," a great excursion back to the church. Contrast his playing with Freddie Hubbard's on "Blues and the Abstract Truth." They're both great, but Williams will raise you out of your seat a couple of extra notches.
Dolphy, as was the case on "Blues and the Abstract Truth," is in superb control here without ever losing his edge. His fiery playing contrasts well with Nelson's controlled heat.
"Altoitis" is a great closer, a tribute to three departed giants, who testify on their horns for all they're worth. Savor every second of this release and don't be afraid to go ahead and scream your approval for these jazz/bluesmen.

"Oscar Peterson & Stephane Grappelli, Skol - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"
OSCAR PETERSON & STEPHANE GRAPPELLI - SKOL
FACTORY SEALED LP
This 1979 meeting of Oscar Peterson with the ebullient French violinist Stephane Grappelli at a Danish jazz festival is a pure delight. Grappelli, whose unassuming virtuosity rivaled that of Peterson, takes a brilliant solo on Django Reinhardt's "Nuages" and trades hot licks with Peterson on "Skol Blues." They are joined by guitarist Joe Pass and bassist Niels Henning Orsted-Pedersen (who had recorded a trio album with Grappelli the day before), plus drummer Mickey Roker. With so much talent surrounding him, Peterson felt no need to take over the performance with his customary showers of notes.

"Otis Redding & Carla Thomas, King & Queen 180 Gram - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"
Otis Redding and Carla Thomas recorded one album together, but is an R&B gem. Motown started the duet album trend by pairing Marvin Gaye with Mary Wells, Kim Weston and most famously Tammi Terrell, so this was Stax/Volt’s rebuttal. The album is made up of mostly covers, but Otis Redding and Carla Thomas attack the songs with a ferocity and verve that makes them sound all their own. Otis Redding’s smooth voice easily mingles with the sass of Carla Thomas’ and this is no better illustrated than on “Tramp” which is pure Southern Soul. They do a tender take on Sam & Dave’s “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby” and Aaron Neville’s “Tell It Like It Is” while ripping it up on Eddie Floyd’s “Knock On Wood” and “Lovey Dovey”. It is interesting to hear them do the Gaye/Weston song “It Takes Two” as there was always a rivalry between Motown and Stax/Volt. KING & QUEEN was a boastful title and the two more tha live up to the claim
Tracks Include: "Knock On Wood" "Let Me Be Good To You" "Tramp" "Tell It Like It Is" "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" "Lovey Dovey" "New Year's Resolution" 'It Takes Two" "Are You Lonely For Me Baby" "Bring It On Home To Me" "Ooh Carla,Ooh Otis".

"Otis Redding, In Person At The Whiskey A Go Go"
Recorded in 1966, Otis Redding's In Person At The Whisky A Go Go is one of his best live albums, and is one of the best and most energetic live albums ever made. The album kicks off with the great I Can't Turn You Loose followed by Pain In My Heart, from Redding's first album. This is followed by the soulful plea of Just One More Day and a great version of his earlier hit Mr. Pitiful. The recording of Satisfaction on here is even better then the version on Otis Blue, and easily rivals the Stone's version.
This is followed by three great soul songs, I'm Depending On You, Any Ole Way and the great ballad These Arms of Mine. Reddin then goes into a kickin' version of James Brown's Papa's Got A Brand New Bag, which at least as good as the original. The album closes with the classic Respect. This is just a tour de force performance and you can feel the energy coming off of it. This prooves just how great of a voice Otis Redding had and just how soulful he was. This is an essential album in Otis Redding's catalog and in the history of Soul and R&B.

"Otis Redding, Pain In My Heart (Includes: These Arms Of Mine)"
PAIN IN MY HEART - Like most R&B albums of the early 1960s, Otis Redding's 1964 debut was a mixture of the artist's contemporary hits and covers of popular hits of the day. As with many early Stax full-lengths, this album was built around the success of a couple hits. In this case, it was a pair of soulful ballads. What had originally been a recording session for Johnny Jenkins & The Pinetoppers (for whom Otis was the vocalist) in 1962 resulted in Otis introducing "These Arms of Mine." It was released at the end of the year and went on to become a Top 20 R&B hit, followed by "Pain In My Heart" in 1963. Another session in January 1964 produced the rest of the tracks, most of them covers. There are songs by two of Otis' heroes, Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" and Little Richard's "Lucille," as well as renditions of "Stand By Me," "I Need Your Lovin'," "Louie Louie," and Rufus Thomas' "The Dog."
While some of it is unremarkable filler material, Redding's "Something Is Worrying Me" and worth the price of admission alone is the underrated "Security," which was the first in a string of great up-tempo Redding originals make this disc worth a listen. The backing band is Stax's legendary rhythm section, Booker T. & the MG's, with horns provided by the Mar-Keys. Jenkins plays guitar on "These Arms of Mine" and its B-side "Hey Hey Baby." At the time, Otis hadn't completely found his groove yet, so the album is fairly inconsistent. However, it's interesting to hear the seeds of what he would become, and his wonderful singing on the slow numbers was already in fine form. It stands as a promising debut record.

"Otis Redding, The Soul Album"
150 Gram Limited Edition Analog Virgin Vinyl.
Although Redding was a great songwriter (he gave us Aretha's "Respect" and Arthur Conley's "Sweet Soul Music"--'nuff said), he partially made a reputation for himself as a great interpreter of other people's material, ranging from Beatles and Stones covers to "Louie Louie" to standards like "Try a Little Tenderness," which had originally been a hit for Bing Crosby. And unlike other soul artists of the time, including the great Jackie Wilson, Redding--with the help, of course, of guitarist Steve Cropper, bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, and drummer Al Jackson--could take even schlock, at least in R&B terms (i.e., "The Tennessee Waltz"), and transcend it, making it his own. Otis makes all 11 tracks here his own--not that any of them were ever considered schlock. But many, including Sam Cooke's "Chain Gang," Roy Head's "Treat Her Right," and Wilson Pickett's "634-5789," were closely associated with their originators.
Redding's cover of Smokey Robinson's "Scratch My Back" is so awesome that it makes you forget the Miracles' original. The Soul Album is sometimes underrated because it's a covers album--but it's a classic covers album.
Tracks Include: "Just One More Day" "It's Growing" "Cigarettes and Coffee" "Chain Gang" "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" "Good to Me" "Scratch My Back" "Treat Her Right" "Everybody Makes a Mistake" "Any Ole Way" "634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.)."

ORIGINAL SEALED LP - High definition analog vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and ears. The ultimate record – the way music was meant to be heard.
Pity the aging rock star. All those declarations about sugar mountains and hoping to die before he got old don't leave much room for middle age. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant understood this in 1997 as they began work on Walking Into Clarksdale, the duo's first album-length collaboration on all-new material since Led Zeppelin blew apart in 1980. Despite inevitable comparisons with the music of their youth, their work here (recorded by punk deity Steve Albini) is no embarrassment. Too many of the tracks are frustratingly dry and somber, but the duo find shades of "Kashmir" on the epic "Most High," while Plant croons a beautifully Zeppelinesque chorus on "When the World Was Young." Dancing days are here again

"Pat Benatar, Best Shots"
Classic Analog Out Of Print LP Pressing w/ small cut out in cover
When Pat Benatar tore onto the scene in the late '70s, her stage presence and attitude were just as formidable as her talent. One of the new breed of women in rock, Benatar, a trained opera singer, assumed all of the rock poses from her male lead singer counterparts and delivered each song with a take-no-prisoners attitude. "Heartbreaker," her first single, was a big monster of locomotive hard rock. Its throaty, growling, and suggestive vocal style established Benatar as a contender in an arena championed by the likes of Robert Plant. Benatar also took cues from the hard rock catalog of tricks with "Hell Is for Children," building the song from a near-ballad into an all-out ballsy rocker. "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" had her combining her edge with a knack for strong melodies. "Promises in the Dark" and "Fire and Ice" continued in the same vein with guitarist Neil Giraldo's furious fretwork holding up to Benatar's vocal pyrotechnics. Best Shots also chronicles the less stellar singles, with the annoying "Love Is a Battlefield," and "We Belong to the Night." Benatar's fire burned brightest in the beginning and it seems best to remember her that way.
