The Four Tops have been together since 1954 (started out as The Four Aims) - Detroit teens who grew up together as best friends -- Levi Stubbs, Abdul Fakir, Lawrence Payton and Renaldo Benson. After going through a couple of recording companies that didn’t work out for them were signed to Motown Records in 1963 and had a Top 10 on both the Pop and R&B charts with “Baby I Need Your Loving”. Subsequent singles - Without The One you Love and Ask the Lonely made the Four Tops a hot commodity. On April 23, 1965 their lives changed forever -- Sugar Pie, Honey bunch was released and went straight to #1 staying there for weeks and became one of Motown’s most successful singles ever. They left Motown Records in 1973, the Four Tops recorded with several other labels. In 1983, they came back to tape MOTOWN: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER, the celebrated TV special that honored Motown’s 25th Anniversary. The Tops’ battle of the bands medley with the Temptations was one of the special’s highlights.

BBC SESSION - 3 LP SET - As live Kinks albums go, BBC Sessions is about as fine a representation of the quartet's inimitable sense of showmanship as exists. Yes, there's Live at Kelvin Hall from the '60s, Everybody's in Show-Biz from the '70s, and One for the Road from the '80s, but this TRIPLE LP SET of broadcast performances captures the Davies brothers at the peak of their powers--from 1964, when they burst on the scene with "You Really Got Me" to 1977, when their career was on the upswing. A veritable greatest-hits collection, BBC Sessions benefits from plenty of raw, sometimes clumsy energy. Ray once insisted, "The day we become professional is the day we are ruined," and the Kinks never did turn pro during this 13-year span. There's great fun throughout these TRIPLE LP SET, but of particular note are the woozy '70s recordings where the group worked with a horn section whose music-hall adornments prove to be delightfully complementary. One can't help but get the sense that they were plugged into what the Stones and the Band were doing at the time, but regardless of the setting and surroundings, the Kinks were true originals
