"Johnny Griffin, Little Giant"

JOHNNY GRIFFIN - LITTLE GAINT - FACTORY SEALED Pressing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the most formidable improvisers of the post-bebop 1950s, Johnny Griffin attracted more than his share of nicknames: Little Giant referred jointly to his large musical stature and small size; the widely-used Fastest Gun in the West placed (in the tenor player's own opinion) undue emphasis on his ability to perform at blistering tempos. This LP was the first of several attempts to change Griffin's image through more carefully structured albums - in this case Norman Simmons' arrangements played by a strong sextet featuring Blue Mitchell and Wynton Kelly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Olive Refractions 2. The Message 3. The Lonely One 4. 63rd Street Theme 5. Playmates 6. Venus and the Moon

"Johnny Winter, And Live with Gatefold Cover"

JOHNNY WINTER - AND LIVE with the expensive gatefold cover. Out of Print FACTORY SEALED LP - Born and raised in Beaumont, Texas in the 1940s and surrounded by the blues, country, and Cajun music, Johnny Winter and his younger brother Edgar began their careers as kids, performing songs together and winning talent shows and spots on local TV. Before they were even teens, the two brothers traveled to New York to explore their options, and gained exposure to the rock 'n' roll and rhythm & blues of the period which also influenced them profoundly. During their early teens, the Winter brothers released their first singles, "School Day Blues" and "You Know I Love You" back in Beaumont. By the late '60s, Johnny and Edgar had each forged independent musical identities and developed unique followings, though they continued to collaborate occasionally, releasing albums such as "Together: Edgar Winter and Johnny Winter Live" (1975), One of the most significant aspects of both men's work, however, was the fact that it revealed a deep respect for the African-American blues tradition, incorporating many of its elements, despite significant racial barriers that existed at the time. Also, rather than trying to downplay their unusual looks, the Winter brothers embraced them, using them to fuel their flashy rock-star image. The Winter brothers each managed to reach a high level of commercial success around the world, releasing several very popular solo albums and playing sold-out concerts. Johnny received multiple Grammy Award nominations for his work, and Edgar became a pioneer of electronic rock, one of the very first musicians to use the synthesizer as a lead instrument in studio recordings and in live performances. The careers of both brothers have spanned almost five decades. What energy and passion Johnny Winter puts into his live sets. While there is only one original song here ("Mean Town Blues" - and it comes off sounding like a blues classic), the choice of covers is exceptional - from Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis to the Rolling Stones. How important was Rick Derringer to this band?. He is the perfect foil for Johnny - matching J.W. lick for lick on guitar, playing flawless rhythm, and even singing lead on some of the Rock & Roll Medley. This is an excellent band - probably the best Winter ever toured with. Randy Jo Hobbs (bass) and a young Bobby Caldwell on "percussion" make a terrific rhythm section. Tracks include: . Good Morning Little Schoolgirl -. It's My Own Fault - - Jumpin' Jack Flash -. Rock & Roll Medley: Great Balls of Fire/Long Tall Sally/Whole Lotta - Mean Town Blues -. Johnny B. Goode

"Johnny Winter, Still Alive and Well"

Johnny Winter's "comeback" album from 1973. Johnny is one of the most underrated guitar players that ever picked up a 6-string. While deeply rooted in the blues, Johnny delivers some rippin' stripped-down rock and roll on this album. Production is held to a very minimum of overdubs, and it's basically Johnny with his bass player and drummer. No effects, no slick production tricks, just good old rock and roll. He's one of those rare guys that can just plug the guitar into and amp and rip it up. In addition to his masterful playing, Johnny serves up some of his patented gritty, soulful vocals. Tracks include: 1. Rock Me Baby - Can't You Feel It - Cheap Tequila - All Tore Down - Rock & Roll - Silver Train - Ain't Nothing To Me -. Still Alive & Well -. Too Much Seconal - Let It Bleed

"Kenny Wayne Shepherd, 10 Days Out"

KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD - 10 DAYS OUT . Limited Edition classic DOUBLE LP SET. 10 Days Out...Blues From The Backroads documents the voyage of blues guitar great Kenny Wayne Shepherd as he travels the country to jam with, interview and generally pay homage to the last of the authentic blues greats. Beginning in New Orleans and ending with a grand finale concert at Acoustic Sounds' own Blue Heaven Studios in Salina, Kansas, Shepherd's pilgrimage is a perfect lens into blues history and with absolutely exceptional cinematography and editing (on the CD/DVD version only). This is a major-league production about what all too often is treated as a minor-league genre. The guitar-slinger Shepherd, along with the Double Trouble rhythm section of Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton, begins in New Orleans, where they meet with Clarence "Gatemouth Brown" and Bryan Lee. Their tour busses rumble north to Shepherd's hometown of Shreveport where he and Buddy Flett jam at Leadbelly's graveside. They continue on into Mississippi to perform with B.B. King in his hometown of Indianola. Then it's over to Alabama to visit the home of Jerry "Boogie" McCain. The tour continues into rural North Carolina to meet with the Piedmont blues masters Cootie Stark, Neil Pattman, John Dee Holeman and Etta Baker. They turn West to jam with the great Henry Townsend in his St. Louis living room along with Honeyboy Edwards, who came down from Chicago for the session. Finally, the production ends at Blue Heaven Studios in Salina, KS. There, Kenny performs with surviving members of Muddy Waters' and Howlin' Wolf's bands. The concert included Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Calvin "Fuzz" Jones, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Henry Gray and Hubert Sumlin along with guests Wild Child Butler, Lazy Lester, Jimmy D. Lane, Double Trouble and Noah Hunt. The performances are absolutely legendary and the beauty of the old church sanctuary with a revved up "congregation" is truly something to behold. 10 Days Out... is a no-brainer for any blues fan, but it's also the perfect introduction to the blues. And consider for historic sake that since this filming in June 2004, six of the legends documented within have died, making 10 Days Out... a crucial artifact in all future generations' explorations into such an integral part of American music history. Now, the incredible music captured on this once-in-a-lifetime voyage is available for us vinyl-loving blues fans. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings Prison Blues - Cootie Stark & Neal 'Big Daddy' Pattman Potato Patch - Jerry 'Boogie' McCain Honky Tonk - Buddy Flett The Thrill Is Gone - B.B. "King Curtis, The New Scene"

KING CURTIS - THE NEW SCENE OF KING CURTIS FACTORY SEALED LP This could well be my favorite jazz recording of all time. It's not innovative in any way, but the band's chemistry is really something - with Curtis on the tenor sax, Nat Adderley on the trumpet, Wynton Kelly on the keys, Paul Chambers on the base, and Ollie Jackson on the drums. Curtis really anchors this album, playing bluesy, R&B riffs over a hard-bop setting. Highly recommended Track Listings 1. Da-Duh-Dah 2. Have You Heard? 3. Willow Weep for Me 4. Little Brother Soul 5.
