"Mike & The Mechanics, S/T"

Classic Analog Out Of Print LP Pressing This is one of the better albums to come out in the 80's. -this album is a wonderfully catchy disc of excellent, melodic 80's pop/rock. Mike Rutherford's 2nd Successful Band - 1985's MIKE & THE MECHANICS isn't really guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford's first solo project---it's his third---but it is the first release under the group name, which became Rutherford's successful solo project outside of his main band, Genesis. After a long string of successful Genesis albums guitarist and co-founding member Mike Rutherford released this side project Mike and the Mechanics. Stepping out from the shadow of front man and lead vocalist Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford proves he's more than just the big tall guitarist of the group. He along with Christopher Neil (who also produced the album) and B.A. Robertson write some great songs on this 80's treasure. One song was co-written by Genesis band-mates Collins and Tony Banks "A Call to Arms" probably meant for a past or future Genesis release. The Mechanics very talented lineup consists of Ace, Squeeze, and solo artist Paul Carrack who shares the vocal duties with the late Paul Young. Rounding out the band is Peter Van Nooke on drums, Adrian Lee on keyboards and Rutherford on guitar and bass. The LP opens with the catchy sci-fi themed "Silent Running". It is one of many well written songs on the disc. Other memorable tracks are; "All I Need is a Miracle" and "Taken In". "Hanging By A Thread is one of the more harder edged tracks on the disc. This album is probably the best of the group's later releases. Rutherford scores big with this release. He succeeds unlike many artist who decide to do solo projects away from their respective popular bands. He has put together a disc with well written and catchy material with very talented musicians. MIKE & THE MECHANICS is a terrific album, one of Mike Rutherford's best offerings as a solo artist, and one of the 80's finest albums. It's a great LP.

"Miles Davis & Charles Mingus, Blue Moods - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"

Classic Analog LP Pressing. Features Britt Woodman - Trombone, Charles Mingus - Bass, Tedd Charles - Vibes, Elvin Jones, Drums. Miles was fresh from his triumph at the 1955 Newport Jazz Festival when he agreed to record for his old friend Charles Mingus's label (they had first met in California ten years before). Considering the volatile temperaments of the two protagonists, the music is surprisingly calm, but according to Elvin Jones (a new face in town), "if they had just printed the conversations in the studio at that time, that would have been a best-seller." Woodman had known Mingus since boyhood, and Charles was then a frequent musical associate with similar ideas about composing and arranging. The charts here are all by Teddy, except "Alone Together," which is by Mingus. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Nature Boy 2. "Miles Davis & John Coltrane, Miles & Coltrane JAZZ MASTERPIECES CJ 44052 SEALED LP"

Digitally Remastered Directly from the Original Analog Tapes. Miles redefined himself with shimmering lyricism and Coltrane found and distilled his identity. Together, they changed the jazz world forever. FACTORY SEALED LP MILES DAVIS & JOHN COLTRANE - "This album is a MUST for any jazz library." I'll back that, and would even call it one of the great live jazz albums ever. Not much of Miles rises for me to the level of appeal of post-bop. I don't warm to the Miles of the muted trumpet who's fond of savouring the notes, fixated on sonic textures. I'm more partial to not-so-cool, more boisterous, racier interplays and improvisation of small-combo hard-bop jazz from the mid-50s to the early 60s - the most exciting period in jazz, to me. No accident, then, that 'Trane was my big draw to this recording. But what a find this is! The first five tracks (Ah-leu-cha; Straight, No Chaser; Fran-Dance; Two Bass Hit; Bye Bye Blackbird) are stereo recordings from a 4 July '58 show in Newport, RI. The last two (Budo; Little Melonae) are in mono, and hark to a 27 October '55, New York performance. The first set has Bill Evans doing his modal thing, along with Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb, Cannoball Adderley on alto sax, and Trane on tenor. The last two tracks have Red Garland on piano, not Evans, Philly Joe Jones not Cobb on drums, and there's no Cannonball adding oomph. There's plenty of raucous hard-bop on this, plus a share of what I regard as the milder Miles - though of a very high order. On the closing 'Budo,' the mute doesn't stymie the music's pulse one bit: both 'Fran-Dance' and 'Bye Bye Blackbird' have lots to recommend them. And when the mute comes off for the other numbers, Miles sets the trumpet's talents on the wild side, and with his musical mates shows he can bop with the very best. Evans's unusual addition to the mix is also worth a close look; Coltrane's pretty much on fire here too, and as for rhythmic core Miles never got much better than Mr PC, Philly Joe and Cobb. TRACKS ARE: 1. Ah-Leu-Cha 2. Straight No Chaser 3. Fran-Dance 4. Two Bass Hit 5. Bye Bye Blackbird 6.Little Melonae 7. Budo

"Miles Davis & Thelonious Monk, Live At Newport "

MILES DAVIS & THELONIOUS MONK LIVE AT NEWPORT Collectors Note: This LIMITED EDITION pressing is now out of print & gone from the last distributor that had any of these pressing left within their inventory. This means that this specific title is "Here Today but For Sure Gone Tomorrow Forever". So Don't Miss Out on adding this to your collection because mymusicfix only has a the last couple copies left forever any where in the world still factory sealed. Miles & Monk at Newport was a combined album of a Miles Davis appearance at Newport with an appearance of Thelonious Monk, These are two different performances at two different times. Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk do not perform together on this LP. Both sides represented live appearances at the Newport Jazz Festival On the first side of the LP was a series of high tempo performances of bebop tunes and other staples of the Davis live repertoire from 1958. The performance was contemporaneous with Davis' Milestones album. Aside from the 1973 release Jazz at the Plaza (also a 1958 concert) during the LP era, this was the only legitimate (non-bootleg) recording of a live Davis combo performance earlier than the 1960 Blackhawk recordings. As such, this performance and Jazz at the Plaza were the only legitimate live recordings representing the Kind of Blue sextet. On the second side were a few numbers by Thelonious Monk's combo, from a 1963 Newport appearance. It featured the idiosyncratic appearance by clarinetist Pee Wee Russell. In 1973, an expanded version of the Davis Newport performance was released as the LP Miles & Coltrane. In the 1994 the album was released with the Davis Newport performances expanded and the Monk portion released separately on the 2CD Monk compilation Live at Newport 1963-65. ? Track listing Side 1 - Davis in 1958 1. "Ah-Leu-Cha" (5:55, composed by Charlie Parker) 2. "Straight, No Chaser" (8:52, composed by Thelonious Monk) 3. "Fran-Dance" (7:08, composed by Miles Davis) 4. "Two Bass Hit" (4:19, composed by Dizzy Gillespie and John Lewis) Side 2 - Monk in 1963 1. "Nutty" (13:57, composed by Thelonious Monk) 2. "Blue Monk" (11:18, composed by Thelonious Monk)

"Miles Davis Plays Al Cohn Compositions"

10" Vinyl Since the 'records heard 'round the world,' GODCHILD, JERU, MOVE, et al, Miles Davis has made many other fine records to enhance his position as top modern trumpeter, but in the main they have been three horn groups (including himself) with an emphasis on solo work. After the original melody, usually stated in tight unison, each hornman played again only when his solo turn came. The soloists had to be good to sustain interest, and they were, but it was felt that Miles needed a change of pace for his next recording date; compositions and arrangements which would suit him and result in a happy combination of arranged music and solo work. The man who achieved this was Al Cohn, the unheralded great of the tenor saxophone, as well as the composer's and arranger's desk." - from the original liner notes by Ira Gitler -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. TITLES INCLUDED - Miles Davis & Milt Jackson - Sonny Rollins - Bags Groove - BLUE MAZE - COLLECTORS ITEMS - BLUE MOODS - THE MODERN JAZZ GIANTS - DIG WITH SONNY ROLLINS - THE NEW MILES DAVIS QUINTET & THE MUSINGS OF MILES COLLECTORS ITEMS - These two dates, done three years apart in the Fifties, have Davis and Sonny Rollins as the linking figures. The historic 1st session, from 1953, is the second and last time Charlie Parker (using the nom de groove 'Charlie Chan') recorded on tenor saxophone. Additionally, this is the only time Parker and one of his most important disciples, Rollins, recorded together. On the extremely moving, seven minute 'Round Midnight', Rollins has the opening & closing bridges, credited in the original notes to Parker. The 1956 date is as mellow and relaxed as the 1953 session was tense and neurotic. Rollins's growth as an individual is readily apparent, and Miles displays his prowess with a Harmon mute on Brubeck's 'In Your Own Sweet Way'. 1. Serpent's Tooth [Take 1][Take] 2. Serpent's Tooth [Take 2] 3. 'Round Midnight 4. Compulsion 5. No Line 6. Vierd Blues 7. In Your Own Sweet Way BLUE HAZE - This potpourri of Davis-led small combos is an indicator of the kind of important playing he was doing in the years leading up to his famous "comeback" in 1955. But if the majority of the critics were asleep on Miles, the musicians were not. These recordings went a long way toward entrenching him as an influence. The pianists are John Lewis, Horace Silver and, on his own composition "Smooch," Charles Mingus. The drummers are the trinity of bebop: Max Roach, Art Blakey and Kenny Clarke; the bassist throughout is Percy Heath; and on "I'll Remember April," the alto saxophonist is Davey Schildkraut, once mistaken for Charlie Parker by Mingus in a "Blindfold Test." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. I'll Remember April 2. Four 3. Old Devil Moon 4. Smooch 5. Blue Haze 6. When Lights Are Low 7. Tune Up 8. Miles Ahead BLUE MOODS - Miles was fresh from his triumph at the 1955 Newport Jazz Festival when he agreed to record for his old friend Charles Mingus's label (they had first met in California ten years before). Alone Together 3. There's No You 4. Easy Living DIG WITH SONNY ROLLINS - JACKIE MCLEAN & WALTER BISHOP - Another example of Prestige's policy of stretching out past the confines of the three-minute recording, instituted with Zoot Sims in August 1951. While this October session does not include any numbers that take up an entire LP side, no track is less than 5:23, the title track is 7:33, and the classic "Bluing" is five seconds short of ten minutes. It also spotlights three young musicians-Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Walter Bishop-who grew up playing in the same Harlem neighborhood band during the first flowering of bebop. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Dig 2. It's Only a Paper Moon 3. Denial 4. Bluing 5. Out of the Blue THE NEW MILES DAVIS QUINTET - This is the first LP to be issued featuring the Miles Davis Quintet -- a group that was to become one of the most influential small bands of the Fifties. It also introduced John Coltrane to the jazz public, launching him on his significant career. Davis' singular mastery with a mute, exemplified on The Musings of Miles, is further emphasized, as is Red Garland's penchant for picking "new" old standards for Miles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Just Squeeze Me 2. There Is No Greater Love 3. How Am I To Know? 4. S''posin 5. The Theme 6. Stablemates THE MUSINGS OF MILES - This was a forerunner of the Miles Davis Quintet as it was his first session with Red Garland and Philly Joe Jones. Up to then, his Prestige dates had been of the "all star" variety. By the fall, John Coltrane and Paul Chambers would come aboard to help form the first of a continuum of great Davis working groups. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Will You Still Be Mine? 2. I See Your Face Before Me 3. I Didn't 4. A Gal in Calico 5. A Night in Tunisia 6. Green Haze THE MODERN JAZZ GIANTS - Here are four tracks from one of the classic sessions of all time when a combination of giants gathered in Rudy Van Gelder?s studio for a historic meeting on Christmas Eve afternoon, 1954. With Thelonious Monk and three-quarters of the Modern Jazz Quartet (Jackson, Heath and Clarke) as his accomplices, Miles blends sophisticated harmonic knowledge with raw, spontaneous invention to produce extraordinary music. The two takes of "The Man I Love" are quite different within their basic similarity. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. The Man I Love 2. Swing Spring 3. 'Round About Midnight 4. Bemsha Swing 5. The Man I Love (take 1) BAGS GROOVE - More than 30 years ago Miles Davis recorded this music in the company of such other giants as Milt Jackson, Thelonious Monk, Kenny Clarke, Percy Heath, Sonny Rollins, and Horace Silver. Today the music they made is regarded as classic, Bags Groove in two versions, is perfect illustration of the improvisary process, and the various delights that can develop from time to time; the date with Rollins reveals his development toward major status. It is hard to believe that having heard these 1954 recordings, the critics could have called Davis's triumph at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1955 a comeback. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. "Miles Davis, All Stars - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK"

140 Gram Sealed LP This contains two of the classic Miles Davis sessions of 1954, which all the critics who hailed his appearance at the 1955 Newport Jazz Festival a "comeback" seem like a pack of Rip Van Winkles. "Walkin'" and "Blue OEn' Boogie" are quintessential blues jams with all the pluses and none of the minuses of that genre. The solos by Davis, J.J. Johnson, Lucky Thompson, and Horace Silver are electric and the ensemble punches powerfully. The date with Bird-fancier Davey Schildkraut finds Mile's magic mute materializing in front of the fine Silver/ Percy Heath/ Kenny Clarke rhythm section. "Miles Davis, Greatest Hits" - Product Image
Click for larger image

"Miles Davis, Greatest Hits"

Miles Davis pioneered (at least) five entirely different periods/styles of jazz during his career. He was on the cutting edge of be-bop, playing with Charlie Parker. He was literally present a the birth of cool jazz, had an amazing series of records in the 50's, produced several cutting edge big band works with Gil Evans (Sketches of Spain being the most famous), had a second great band in the early 60's, and was again present at the birth of jazz-rock fusion. No one albumn has ever attempted to be a "Greatest Hits" covering this entire spectrum. And this is no exception. Rather, it is focused narrowly on the pre-electric, post Kind of Blue, period from the mid-50's to the early, pre-electric 60's. While it is impossible to consider this albumn a real "Greatest hits" package, as it completely ignores most of Miles' great hits, it is a wonderful, accessible introduction to what many would consider the most productive 15 years in the middle of Miles' long career. "Milt Jackson, At The Village Gate"

Factory Sealed Classic Analog LP Pressing. Out of Print forever! This album is one of several examples on Riverside of the amazingly multifaceted musical personality of Milt Jackson. Without even taking into consideration the other, more intricate and restrained side that emerges when he functions as part of the Modern Jazz Quartet, one should take note of Jackson in front of a large orchestra, in collaboration with guitarist Wes Montogmery - and in the soulful blues-and-ballads context of the "live" recording heard here. In the company of intuitive friends like pianist Hank Jones and tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath, Milt Jackson is able to make it clear that he is one of our national treasures: a truly superior improvising artist. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1.
