Recorded at The Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York, New York on February 19 & 25, 1959. Includes original liner notes by Irving Townsend. Recorded in two live sessions about a week apart in February of 1959, JAZZ PARTY covers a lot of ground. Duke's late-'50s band included veterans like Johnny Hodges and Harry Carney in the reed section, as well as newer but equally esteemed musicians such as Clark Terry (trumpet) and tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves. Four of the cuts here make up the "Toot Suite," where, in typical Ellington fashion, various members of the orchestra are featured in turn as soloists. JAZZ PARTY also features an ensemble of nine symphony percussionists on two cuts. The "in stereo" part of the title is justified by the claim that these recordings take advantage of stereo imaging to reproduce the original concert experience of hearing an array of vibes, xylophones, tympani and other percussion stretching from one end of the stage to the other. Bebop icon/trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie sits in for a tune, as does Jimmy Rushing; the Duke's impressionistic swing makes a fine foil for stone modernist and Kansas City blues belter alike.

ELLA FITZGERALD - ELLA WISHES YOU A SWINGING CHRISTMAS - MFSL EXCLUSIVE 24-KARAT GOLD LONG OUT OF PRINT SEALED RARE CD. PROBABLY THE RAREST OF ALL MFSL CD'S. This is a true Collector's find for those individuals who want to own the finest and rarest pieces of musical history. It is similar to owning the artist's own Rare Gold Record Album in a Gold CD pressing. You will be one of the last people in the world to own these Limited Edition Long Out of Print Masterpieces that will add true value to your Collection. It'd be hard to imagine a happier wish than the one this jazz vocal legend wishes her listeners on this urbane-yet-homey collection of holiday favorites. The First Lady of Song recorded these tunes in 1960, at the peak of her interpretive powers. As such, she puts her singular stamp on everything from a sultry vamp like "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" to the sweet and cozy "The Christmas Song." Even potentially shopworn standards like "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" sound fresher when they're coming from Ella Fitzgerald. Track Listings 1. Jingle Bells 2. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town 3. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas 4. What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? 5. Sleigh Ride 6. Christmas Song 7. Good Morning Blues 8. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! 9. Winter Wonderland 10. Contributing artists: Kiki Dee Producer: Gus Dudgeon Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes Generally regarded as Elton John's masterpiece, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD is a double-album (on one CD) that includes several of his signature songs alongside a sprawling array of lesser-known (but by no means lesser) tunes. The hits included "Bennie And The Jets," a funky, falsetto stomper; the Rolling Stonesy rocker "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"; and the gorgeous title ballad. "Candle In The Wind," an elegy for Marilyn Monroe, which didn't become a certified hit until 14 years later, when John re-recorded it with the Melbourne Symphony. The fact that it wasn't released as a single at the time is testimony to the wealth of pop pleasures available here. The swelling, synth-fueled overture of "Funeral For A Friend" gives way to one of John's toughest guitar-rockers in an 11-minute medley. "Grey Seal" is a piano showcase with a perfect verse-chorus-verse construction. The rocking "All The Girls Love Alice" is one of the era's most overt references to lesbianism, and "Harmony," the soft ballad that closes the album, may be John's grandest melody. Willfully eclectic and packed with great music, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD bursts with the bold energy and undeniable talent that made John a superstar.

"Elvis Presley, That's The Way It Is - Factory Sealed MFSL Ultradisc Gold CD - Japan Pressed"

MFSL 24K Gold CD, Japan 1st Generation Ultradisc Pressing - n J Card. "That's The Way It Is" represents one of Elvis' best albums from the 1970's. It is a mixture of live recordings and studio mixes. ELVIS PRESLEY - THAT'S THE WAY IT IS - MFSL SEALED GOLD ORIGINAL JAPAN 1ST EDITION ULTRADISC CD. COLLECTORS NOTE - THESE 1ST GENERATION ULTRADISC DID NOT COME WITH J-CARDS WHEN PRESSED IN JAPAN That's The Way It Is represents one of Elvis' best albums from the 1970's. It is a mixture of live recordings and studio mixes. But it should not be confused with the original soundtrack from the documentary of the same name that is different. Elvis sings every song with feeling and really puts his heart into the music. It is a good record (CD) throughout. And while I would not put it in the top 5 of his greatest albums, it would certainly be in his top 10 - a record that is well worth owning and listening to. Where Elvis really sores on this album is on the live tracks. "Patch It Up" written by the late, great, Eddie Rabbit is an up tempo pop song that Elvis sings to the hilt and the band plays hard. His version of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is probably the best remake of the Righteous Brothers classic that I have ever heard. It's different in sound than the masterful original but like that version, it is very soulful. Elvis gets inside the song and jokes in this live version, "Baby, Baby I'd get down on my knees to you, If this suit wasn't too tight." He was slender at the time and his good humor serves for comic relief amidst the seriousness of a man looking for a second chance with his woman. The other outstanding performance on this album is "Bridge Over Troubled Water". To equal the original classic, once voted the greatest song of the 1970's, is no easy task. But in this version Elvis does just that. Masterfully reflecting the eloquent lyrics, he sings them with both drama and panache. His voice soars, the back-up singers voices soar and Elvis leaves his listeners wasted. It's light opera, it's pop, it's musical theater all rolled up into one and it represents one of Elvis' best and most powerful ballads from the 1970's. It's no coincidence that this song was a staple in his live concerts throughout that decade. Coming close to this brilliant performance is "I've Lost You". This is a beautifully written piece of adult contemporary pop describing a marriage where love and chemistry have disappeared and a child is involved. The lyrics are sad and the orchestration is thoughtful. Yet Elvis performs it with such exhuberance; he almost sounds happy. Perhaps it was the joy of singing to a live audience coming through. (The studio version of this song better reflects the lyrics.) Whatever the reasons for Elvis' jubilation on the track, it represents one of those little paradoxes that he was famous for with those who knew him best. Nevertheless, it's still a gem of a song. If you're a guy and you buy this album, invite your girlfriend over to listen to it. By the time it finishes she just might like you even more than she did before. If you're a lady and you buy this album; when you're done listening to it, you'll probably wish you had dated Elvis.

"Emerson Lake & Palmer, Tarkus"

MFSL 24K GOLD CD Track listing 1. Tarkus: Eruption / Stones Of Years / Iconoclast / Mass / Manticore / Battlefield / Aquatarkus 2. Jeremy Bender 3. Bitches Crystal 4. Only Way, The (Hymn) 5. Infinite Space (Conclusion) 6. Time And A Place, A 7. Are You Ready Eddy? Details Playing time: 38 min. Producer: Greg Lake Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Greg Lake (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, bass); Keith Emerson (piano, celeste, B-3 Hammond & church organs, Moog synthesizer); Carl Palmer (drums, percussion). Recorded at Advision Studios, London, England. Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistent lift-lock jewel box. ELP was always more concerned with the fusion of rock and classical music than any of their prog-rock peers. Accordingly they fashioned the title suite (which occupies the album's entire first half) in the mold of a classical composition, each segment meant to represent either a character in or a part of the story. Visually depicted on the inner sleeve, that story is a sci-fi epic featuring strange creatures battling in an alien landscape, none of which matters if you ignore the thin concept and concentrate on the finely wrought music. Musically, the epic "Tarkus" is classic ELP, organ and Moog synths blazing, Carl Palmer unleashing waves of tightly controlled polyrhythm and Greg Lake crooning authoritatively. Things shift a bit in the second half. "The Only Way" features Emerson's impressive church organ riffing and is structured in the style of a hymn. "Bitches Crystal" is a propulsive piece full of invitingly angular keyboard work. Things close on a light note, with the '50s rock & roll-style (!) "Are You Ready Eddy?" (directed at TARKUS engineer Eddie Offord).

"Emerson Lake & Palmer, Trilogy & Tarkus - 2 Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD"

Track listing 1. Endless Enigma, The (Part One) 2. Fugue 3. Endless Enigma, The (Part Two) 4. From The Beginning 5. Sheriff, The 6. Hoedown 7. Trilogy 8. Living Sin 9. Abaddon's Bolero Details Producer: Greg Lake Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes For an album that begins with an extended two-part piece called "The Endless Enigma" (bifurcated by something called "Fugue") and closes with a rock bolero, TRILOGY is surprisingly song-oriented and accessible. As usual, the long instrumental sections are dominated by Emerson's madman organ work and monophonic synth lines. These are interspersed, however with strong melodic/lyrical statements from Greg Lake, making the whole thing cohere more than anyone had any right to expect. The light-hearted Old West motif of "The Sheriff" (complete with honky tonk piano) and an Emersonized version of Copland's "Hoedown" add valuable humor. The ominous "Living Sin" features one of Lake's nastiest vocals, and the title cut ranks among ELP's finest pseudo-classical moments.

When Sinatra teams up with conductor/arranger Nelson Riddle, you know the results are bound to swing, and swinging is what this brash, jazzy and very upbeat album is all about. Though the Chairman has staked his claim as the preeminent saloon singer, telling tale after tragic tale of love gone awry, this album represents the sunny side of Sinatra. He is bold and energetic here. His undeniably authoritative readings of songs like "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "You Make Me Feel So Young" MAKE them into standards, no matter who has sung them before. Riddle's orchestrations are subtle but powerful, and SWINGIN' LOVERS finds Sinatra's voice bouncing off punchy horn stabs and floating gently along sweet rivers of woodwinds. One of the most impressive aspects of Sinatra's talent is his control over the tone and shape of his voice. His is singing expansive and fluid-sounding, but it's plain that every atom of that sound is crafted with the utmost precision. Sinatra's depth of musical understanding makes his delivery of even light-hearted songs like "Anything Goes" and "Makin' Whoopee" cut as deeply as his most romantic ballad. MFSL SEALED FRANK ZAPPA "WE'RE ALL IN IT FOR THE MONEY" Limited Edition Pressing MFSL Collectible 24 Karat Gold CD Frank Zappa simultaneously skewers the Beatles' Sgt.
