Producer: Ian Anderson Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Recording Type: Studio Recording Mode: Stereo Album Notes Personnel: Ian Anderson (vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin, flute, fife, tin whistle, keyboards); Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond (vocals, upright bass); Martin Barre (electric guitar); Dave Pegg (mandolin); John Evan (piano, synthesizer); John "Rabbit" Bundrick (piano); David Palmer , Peter-John Vettese (keyboards); Gerry Conway, Barriemore Barlow, Doane Perry (snare drum). Liner Note Author: Ian Anderson . Recording information: Chateau D'Isaster, France (1973). In 1973, Ian Anderson and his Jethro Tull bandmates retired to a Parisian chateau to work on material for a new album. Though the band managed to record hours of material, the project was ultimately abandoned, leaving the music, known in Jethro Tull lore as the "Chateau D'isaster Tapes" to sit unreleased. Two decades later, at the behest of the group's rabid fans, Ian Anderson finally released Chateau D'isaster's 13 most complete tracks, coupling them with a handful of rare and unreleased career-spanning cuts on the double-disc NIGHTCAP. The primarily instrumental Chateau D'isaster Tapes are largely what one would expect from Jethro Tull material of this vintage, with a few pleasant surprises. Anderson's proclivity toward writing songs about wildlife is given full flower on "Look at the Animals," a track in which the power-flautist casts an ant as the protagonist in a hostile world of crows, cats, and kangaroos. Another highlight is the somewhat anomalous "Left Right," in which the swarming, electrified gurgling, cooing, and laughing of infants gives way to an anthemic guitar workout. The unreleased cuts on the set's second disc are uniformly strong, with highlights including the technically indomitable "Paradise Steakhouse" and "Crew Nights." SKU Number: * |

"Jackie Wilson, Beautiful Day & Nobody But You - 2 Titles on One CD"Album Features UPC: 740155489021 Artist: Jackie Wilson Format: CD Release Year: 1999 Record Label: Diablo (UK) Genre: Chicago Soul, R&B Track Listing 1. Beautiful Day 2. Because of You 3. Go Away 4. Pretty Little Angel Eyes 5. Let's Love Again 6. It's All Over 7. I Get Lonely Sometimes 8. This Love Is Mine 9. Don't You Know I Love You 10. What'cha Gonna Do About Love 11. Where Is Love 12. You're the Song That I Can't Stop Singing 13. Nobody But You 14. Just Call My Name 15. Just as Soon as the Feeling's Over 16. Don't Burn No Bridges 17. You'd Be Good for Me 18. It Only Happens (When I Look at You) 19. Satisfy My Soul 20. I've Learned About Life Details Producer: Carl Davis, Sonny Sanders, William Sanders Distributor: City Hall Recording Type: Studio Recording Mode: Stereo Album Notes 2 LPs on 1 CD: BEAUTIFUL DAY (1973)/NOBODY BUT YOU (1976). Personnel: Jackie Wilson (vocals). Liner Note Author: Alan Robinson . Directors: Sonny Sanders; Willie Henderson. Arrangers: William Sanders ; Sonny Sanders; David Van De Pitte. This outstanding 1999 two-LP single CD from U.K. label Edsel Records pairs two of Jackie Wilson's best latter day albums. Both were produced by Chicago soul icon Carl Davis. 1973's Beautiful Day was co-produced by arranger Sonny Sanders and features songs co-written by Jeffree Perry, whose credits also include hits by various Motown artists and 100 Proof (Aged In Soul). Speaking of Motown, the label's tight studio band, The Funk Brothers, can be heard throughout the album. The inspiring title track shimmers from Wilson's emotive vocals. Other highlights include "Because of You," "Go Away," and "I Get Lonely Sometimes." Nobody But You was Wilson's final album and had superb arrangements by David Van De Pitte. There are several poignant moments. The dreamy opening track "Where Is Love" is a heartfelt plea for racial equality. The singer's fiery vocal sparks his duet with the Chi-Lites on the energetically majestic "Don't Burn No Bridges." Other standouts are "You're The Song I Can't Stop Singing," the Sam Dees ballad "Just As Soon As the Feeling's Over," the light and brisk "It Only Happens When I Look At You," and the big, brassy horn-laced "Satisfy My Soul." As Wilson sings on the album's final track, "I've learned about life/whatever will be will be for me," you might get a lump in your throat when you consider the singer's tragic end. ~ Ed Hogan SKU Number: * |

"Jack Bruce, Concert Classics, Vol. 9"Album Features UPC: 630428070929 Artist: Jack Bruce Format: CD Release Year: 1999 Record Label: Renaissance Records (USA) Genre: Progressive Rock, Rock & Pop Track Listing 1. White Room 2. Hit and Run 3. Clempson's Blues Solo 4. Born Under a Bad Sign 5. Livin' Without Ja 6. Dancing on Air 7. Post War 8. Theme from an Imaginary Western 9. Face Lift 318 10. Escape to the Royal Wood (On Ice) 11. Morning Story 12. Train Time 13. Politician Details Playing Time: 69 min. Contributing Artists: Billy Cobham Distributor: Ryko Distribution Recording Type: Live Recording Mode: Mixed Album Notes Personnel includes: Jack Bruce (vocals, bass); Billy Cobham, David Sancious, Clem Clempson. Includes liner notes by Alan Lefton. Unknown Contributor Roles: Dave "Clem" Clempson; David Sancious; Billy Cobham. Volume nine in the CONCERT CLASSICS series transports listeners back to the early '80s and the band that was billed at the time as Jack Bruce & Friends. As one would expect, Bruce handles the lead vocals and peerless bass playing, whilst his Friends are Dave "Clem" Clempson on guitar, David Sancious on keyboards and guitar, and Billy Cobham on drums. The band plays four numbers from I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THIS, including the catchy "Hit and Run." Bruce dips back into his Cream repertoire for four songs, including the set opener, "White Room" (with a "this'll fool them" intro) and "Politician," as a crowd-pleasing finale. Earlier on, Clempson takes a three-minute blues solo that segues into "Born Under a Bad Sign." The remainder of the set draws on material from Bruce's intervening albums. "Theme From an Imaginary Western" is the standout track, complete with anguished guitar soloing courtesy of Sancious. SKU Number: * |

Times They Are A-Changin', The - (previously unreleased, alternate take, 1963) Details Contributing artists: Augie Meyers, Charlie Sexton Producer: Jack Frost Distributor: Sony Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes Personnel: Bob Dylan (vocals, guitar, piano); Larry Campbell (guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin); Charlie Sexton (guitar); Tony Garnier (bass); Augie Meyers (accordion, Hammond B3 & Vox organs); David Kemper (drums); Clay Meyers (bongos). LOVE AND THEFT won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. This Limited edition of LOVE AND THEFT included a bonus disc of 2 previously unreleased recordings from 1961 & 1963. Bob Dylan's career has always been about defying expectations. Accordingly he followed 1997's much-heralded TIME OUT OF MIND with a marked about-face. Where its predecessor was a bleak emotional landscape full of languid atmospheres, existential sentiments, and graveyard vocal delivery, LOVE AND THEFT finds Dylan much more energized and hopeful. Instead of swamp-like textures, we get sharp, cracking bar-band blues, and lissome ballads with a '20s/'30s feel. The old codger has never sounded more spry; after observing that "summer days and summer nights are gone," he follows up with "I know a place where there's still something going on." Elsewhere he's variously hunting bear, standing on a table to make a toast, burning down a house, and starting a new empire. The musical context for all this uproar is informed more heavily by Dylan's earliest Americana roots than anything other than his albums of traditional folk songs. Delta and Chicago blues are templates for many songs, while a few others even more anachronistically suggest a future for Dylan as ghost writer for Leon Redbone. The lyrics themselves are littered with quotes from/references to old blues tunes, but Dylan's classic non-linear structure and wild imagination allow him to transcend his influences even as he assimilates them. Editorial reviews Included in Magnet's 20 Best Albums of 2001. Magnet (12/01/2002) ...Gritty and immediate... CMJ (10/08/2001) ...The most striking thing about the album is Bob's singing, which possesses a ragged, almost sinister authority...but on the old-tyme numbers becomes a nonchalant croon... Mojo (10/01/2001) 4 stars out of 5 - ...A very good album... Q (10/01/2001) 9 out of 10 - ...Astonishing...It is the rare Dylan album recorded with his touring band, and the versatility and sympathy of this outfit...lets them stand proudly next to The Band as his finest accompanists... Spin (11/01/2001) 5 stars out of 5 - ...A stone-cold Dylan classic... Talk about bringing it all back home: Dylan veers into country, ragtime, vaudeville, deep blues, cocktail-lounge corn, the minstrel show and the kind of rockabilly he must have bashed out with his high school band more than forty years ago... Rolling Stone (09/27/2001) Ranked #2 in Mojo's Best [40] Albums of 2001. Mojo (01/01/2002) Ranked #6 Album of the Year in EW's Best of 2001.
