"B.B. King, Lucille - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK"MFSL 24K Gold Near Mint+ Open CD Track listing 1. Lucille 2. You Move Me So 3. Country Girl 4. No Money No Luck 5. I Need Your Love 6. Rainin' All The Time 7. I'm With You 8. Stop Putting The Hurt On Me 9. Watch Yourself Details Contributing artists: Lloyd Glenn Producer: Bob Thiele Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes Personnel: B.B. King (vocals, guitar); Maxwell Davis (leader, organ); Irving Ashby (guitar); Bobby Forte (tenor saxophone); Cecil McNeely, Bob McNeely (saxophone); Mel Moore (trumpet); John Ewing (trombone); Lloyd Glenn (piano); David Allen (bass); Jesse Sailes (drums). Recorded on December 18 & 20, 1967. Includes liner notes by Sheldon Harris. In December 1967, B.B. King entered the studio with noted jazz producer Bob Thiele to record what eventually became LUCILLE. Named after King's guitar, this record finds B.B. adding some fresh ingredients to his already potent stew of traditional blues. With its biting brass and female back-up singers, "You Move Me So" is a funky, spiritual workout, whereas "I Need Your Love" finds King combining Sam Cooke-flavored vocalizing with a dash of rambling country-flavored piano. As for the blues, Riley B. King has 'em and isn't afraid to share. He digs deep and bathes Ivory Joe Hunter's "No Money No Luck" in heavy pathos. The title track is the most impressive and spontaneous number on this record despite its near-ten-minute length. Done in a talking blues style, "Lucille" started out with King telling the story of his guitar while noodling around on her during a break. Correctly sensing that blues gold was being freshly served up, an excited Thiele had the engineer flip on the record button, preserving a conversation between a man and his guitar for posterity. Johnson, Tom Mitchell (trombone); Danny Bank, Phil Bodner, Romeo Penque (woodwinds); George Ockner (violin); David Sawyer (cello); Janet Putnam (harp); Mal Waldron (piano); Barry Galbraith (guitar); Milt Hinton (bass); Osie Johnson (drums); Phil Kraus (percussion). Recorded in New York, New York from February 19-21, 1958. Originally released on Columbia (1157). This was her penultimate album, recorded when her body was telling her enough was enough. During the sessions with arranger Ray Ellis she was drinking vodka neat, as if it were tap water. Yet, for all her ravaged voice (the sweetness had long gone) she was still an incredible singer. The feeling and tension she manages to put into almost every track sets this album as one of her finest achievements. 'You've Changed' and 'I Get Along Without You Very Well' are high art performances from the singer who saw life from the bottom upwards. The CD reissue masterminded by Phil Shaap is absolutely indispensable. SKU Number: * |

"Carreras Domingo Pavoratti, In Concert With Mehta with J-Card - Mint Opened MFSL Gold CD - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"MFSL LIMITED EDITION FACTORY MINT WITH J-CARD CARRERAS DOMINGO PAVORATTI - IN CONCERT with Mehta - MINT MFSL 24-Karat Gold Cd Long Out Of Print. Magic was created one starlit night in July 1990, when Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras met onstage at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome and became the Three Tenors. They eschewed competitive instincts and cooperated in the spirit of mutual admiration to create one of the greatest musical events ever. This concert is an awe-inspiring orgy of the greatest hits for the tenor voice. Domingo and Pavarotti sing perfectly. The audience wins as these vocal supermen compete to seduce the hearts of the audience. One moment Domingo brings thrilling fire and pain to "E lucevan le stelle" from Tosca; the next, Pavarotti rises to heavenly heights in an inspired rendition of "Nessun dorma" from Turandot. Carreras is the competent little brother, one step behind the greatness of the big brothers from opera's Ponderosa. His singing isn't as captivating as that of the big boys; but his enthusiasm and passion are unrivaled. Mehta exquisitely captures the largeness of this bonanza through the grandiose orchestra For 100's of additional rare out of print pristine sealed audiophile recordings visit mymusicfix E-Bay Store by hitting the Stores Tag on this titles home page. Peace Train 2. Bitterblue 3. Changes IV 4. Rubylove 5. If I Laugh 6. Moonshadow 7. Tuesday's Dead 8. Wind, The 9. How Can I Tell You 10. Morning Has Broken Details Contributing artists: Rick Wakeman Producer: Paul Samwell-Smith Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Album notes Following in the tradition of his previous effort, with a similar cover design and feel, Cat continued his painful journey through life. Even then, there was a sadness linked to his happy songs such as "Moonshadow," "How Can I Tell You" and "Tuesday's Dead." Our favourite school hymn was also given the treatment - how did he manage to make such a happy verse sound so sad? The answer, as we have all seen, was in himself; he was a rare songwriter but he was mostly a very troubled soul, something he seems to have resolved through his conversion to the Muslim faith. He won, we lost him. Editorial reviews ..there is Moonshadow, a simple, unadorned song whose beauty lies in its mystery...He has an unmistakable style, a unique ability to combine sophisticated, commercial melodies with personal, almost primitive lyrics... Rolling Stone (12/09/1971) ...Classic folk-pop....brilliant...gorgeously remastered...breathing new life into tunes...while remaining faithful to the albums' original majesty... CMJ (07/24/2000) 5 stars out of 5 -- Stevens' work had become ever more complex since he left his 60s pop persona behind and TEASER represented the perfect fusion of his earnest delivery and songs, which increasingly reflected his thoughts on life's deeper meaning. "Counting Crows, August and Everything After - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK"MFSL 24K Gold Mint Open CD. Perfect Blue Buildings 5. Anna Begins 6. Time And Time Again 7. Rain King 8. Sullivan Street 9. Ghost Train 10. Raining In Baltimore 11. Murder Of One, A Details Contributing artists: Gary Louris, Maria McKee, Mark Olson, T-Bone Burnett Producer: T-Bone Burnett Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes Counting Crows: Adam Duritz (vocals, piano, harmonica); Matt Malley (guitar, bass, background vocals); David Bryson (guitar, background vocals); Charlie Gillingham (accordion, piano, Hammond B-3 organ, Chamberlain, background vocals); Steve Bowman (drums, background vocals). Additional personnel: David Immergluck (guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, mandocello, background vocals); Bill Dillon (guitar, guitorgan); T-Bone Burnett (guitar); Denny Fongheiser (drums, percussion); Maria McKee, Gary Louris, Mark Olson (background vocals). Counting Crows were nominated for a 1995 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "Round Here" was nominated for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. With their stunning craftsmanship and a classic sound DEEPLY rooted in whistlestop America, the anthems and rural overtones which distinguish the songs on AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER evoke the same kind of visceral reaction which once greeted The Band. But AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER is not an exercise in nostalgia. Some listeners have reacted to vocalist Adam Duritz's gruff, ecstatic vocals in the way they once responded to such dark angels of revelation and regret as Van Morrison and Michael Stipe. On "Time And Time Again," Duritz conjures up a startling sense of longing and loneliness, as the listener is drawn in and consumed by a spooky sense of space and solitude. Credit must go to producer T-Bone Burnett, who has gotten a lot of mileage out of similar themes and sounds. He frames Duritz's fervent vocals in Charlie Gillingham's mysterious keyboards and David Bryson's supple guitar, to particular effect on "Sullivan Street," where Maria McKee's harmonies give the tune a forlorn country resonance. All in all, there's a tactile, spiritual air to Counting Crows' tunes, as if by losing yourself in their lyric loneliness, by boarding their "Ghost Train," you could lose your own isolation. Editorial reviews ...awesomely assured, a near-perfect example of that exhilarating mix of soul, R&B, folk, country and rock n' roll that Gram Parsons extravagantly defined as `Cosmic American Music'.... Melody Maker (03/05/1994) 4 Stars - Excellent - ...What's most impressive about AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER is how many such moments [of cinematic worlds] there are... Someday Never Comes Details Producer: John Fogerty Distributor: Ryko Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes Creedence Clearwater Revival: John Fogerty (guitar, vocals); Tom Fogerty (guitar); Stu Cook (bass); Doug Clifford (drums). Includes liner notes by Greil Marcus. Digitally remastered by George Horn (1995, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California). As the kings of earnest country-and-blues-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip at the time. However, their music stands the test of time with a vengeance, and this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance. Though Creedence produced several excellent albums, it was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles many of CCR's biggest hits. From the slowly building saunter of "Suzie Q" and the spooky, R&B-soaked "I Put a Spell on You" to the fierce "Fortunate Son" and the swampy blues of "Run Through the Jungle," CHRONICLE features the ensemble's signature tunes. Beautifully melancholy songs "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Someday Never Comes" play off sunny, melodic anthems "Down on the Corner" and "Lookin' Out My Back Door," fully revealing the band's wide range. The group's tight, no-frills musicianship leaves John Fogerty's keening voice and superb songwriting at the fore, and the results--brought together here on one of rock's best greatest-hits packages--make for some endearing and enduring music. "Don McLean, American Pie - Mint MFSL Gold CD With J-Card - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK"DON MCLEAN - AMERICAN PIE - 24-KARAT GOLD LONG OUT OF PRINT VERY LIMITED EDITION MINT RARE CD with J-Card. - AMERICAN PIE is a classic in every sense of the word. While the title track dominates, the other tracks are equally impressive and form a cohesive whole. McLean's Ode to Buddy Holly began with a folky intro that sounded like a protest song. Almost nine minutes later, it's undeniably a classic. Don McLean's singing is simple and pure and the instrumentation is perfect throughout. A very pleasant surprise is EVERYBODY LOVES ME BABY, a song about inflated ego which has never received the attention it deserved. It is quite simply a lot of un. The remaining tracks are excellent, rooted in the fine traditions of folk rock. This is one of those albums that, if the songs had been written over many years, would have been considered a Greatest Hits LP. Other tracks include - TILL TOMORROW - VINCENT - CROSSROADS - WINTERWOOD - EMPTY CHAIRS - SISTER FATIMA - THE GRAVE and BABYLON. SKU Number: * |

"Duke Ellington, Jazz Party - MFSL Mint Gold CD with J-Card"Jazz Party - MFSL 24K MINT CD WITH J-CARD Track listing 1. Malletoba Spank 2. Red Garter 3. Red Shoes 4. Red Carpet 5. Ready Go! 6. U.M.M.G. 7. All of Me 8. Tymperturbably Blue 9. Hello Little Girl Playing time: 44 min. Contributing artists: Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Rushing Producer: Irving Townsend Personnel: Duke Ellington, Jimmy Jones (piano); Jimmy Rushing (vocals); Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Harry Carney, Jimmy Hamilton, Russell Procope (saxophone); Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Nance, Clark Terry, Cat Anderson, Shorty Baker, Andres Ford (trumpet); Britt Woodman, Quentin Jackson, John Sanders (trombone); Jimmy Woode (bass); Sam Woodyard (drums); Morris Goldenberg, George Gaber, Elden C. Bailey, Chauncey Morehouse, Harry Breuer, Robert M. Rosengarden, Walter E. Rosenberger, Bradley Spinney, Milton Schlesinger (percussion). Recorded at The Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York, New York on February 19 & 25, 1959. Includes original liner notes by Irving Townsend. Recorded in two live sessions about a week apart in February of 1959, JAZZ PARTY covers a lot of ground. Duke's late-'50s band included veterans like Johnny Hodges and Harry Carney in the reed section, as well as newer but equally esteemed musicians such as Clark Terry (trumpet) and tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves. Four of the cuts here make up the "Toot Suite," where, in typical Ellington fashion, various members of the orchestra are featured in turn as soloists. JAZZ PARTY also features an ensemble of nine symphony percussionists on two cuts. The "in stereo" part of the title is justified by the claim that these recordings take advantage of stereo imaging to reproduce the original concert experience of hearing an array of vibes, xylophones, tympani and other percussion stretching from one end of the stage to the other. Bebop icon/trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie sits in for a tune, as does Jimmy Rushing; the Duke's impressionistic swing makes a fine foil for stone modernist and Kansas City blues belter alike. "Elton John, Madman Across The Water - Mint MFSL Gold CD"ELTON JOHN - MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER --24 Karat MFSL Gold Mint CD - ORIGINAL JAPAN ULTRADISC PRESSING. THESE ORIGINALS NEVER HAD J-CARD. IT'S ALMOST 20 YEARS OUT OF PRINT. This landmark 1971 release is considered one of Elton John's greatest works containing his finest melodies and Bernie Taupin's finest lyrics. Elton John, who was voted by his peers recently as the 17th Best Rock n Roll Artist of All-Time, established his reputation with this 1973 Mercury Recording. Track listing 1. Tiny Dancer 2. Levon 3. Razor Face 4. Madman Across The Water 5. Indian Sunset 6. Holiday Inn 7. Rotten Peaches 8. All The Nasties 9. Goodbye Details Playing time: 45 min. Contributing artists: Rick Wakeman Producer: Gus Dudgeon Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER produced only a couple of minor hits, which may have something to do with the fact that its best songs are all five or six minutes long. But they're among the strongest songs in the entire Elton John catalog--especially the lovely opening track, "Tiny Dancer," which builds from a light, delicately melodic verse to a sweeping, dramatic chorus. Another highlight is the inscrutably biographic "Levon," whose title character was born "on a Christmas day when the New York Times said God is dead." John's luxurious piano melodies, Bernie Taupin's poetic lyrics, and Paul Buckmaster's lush string arrangements all stretch out on MADMAN, giving the record a grandiose, sweeping feel when it is not riding dark, surging currents, as on the memorably edgy title track. There is a painstaking, interior quality here that goes missing from John's early pop-song oriented albums and from the later excesses of GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD. For this reason, MADMAN ON THE WATER is a crucial, unique addition to the John catalogue. SKU Number: * |
