"Jethro Tull, Stand Up - Mint MFSL Gold Cd"

Stand Up [Gold Disc CD] - THIS ITEM'S CD AND FRONT POP-UP ARE IN MINT CONDITION BUT THE BACK INFORMATION ON THE LIFT-LOCK JEWEL CASE IS NOT INCLUDED. Track listing 1. New Day Yesterday, A 2. Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square 3. Bouree 4. Back To The Family 5. Look Into The Sun 6. Nothing Is Easy 7. Fat Man 8. We Used To Know 9. Reasons For Waiting 10. For A Thousand Mothers Details Playing time: 37 min. Producer: Ian Anderson, Terry Ellis Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes Jethro Tull: Ian Anderson (vocals, guitar, balalaika, mandolin, flute, mouth organ, Hammond B-3 organ); Martin "Lancelot" Barre (electric guitar, flute); Glen Cornick (bass); Clive Bunker (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: David Palmer (arranger, conductor). Producers: Terry Ellis, Ian Anderson. Principally recorded at Morgan Studios, London, England. Includes liner notes by Ian Anderson. People often forget that Tull started out as a forward-looking blues-rock unit not dissimilar to contemporaries like Cream and Led Zeppelin. While the blues influence is heard most clearly on the debut THIS WAS, its successor STAND UP still shows some of those traces. Tracks like "A New Day Yesterday" and "Nothing Is Easy" are the prime examples of this hard-hitting, bluesy riff-rock approach. Elsewhere, though, the boys begin to show some of the folk, jazz, and classical influences that would soon make them a leading exponent of progressive rock. "Bouree" is a flute-led instrumental track that combines Ian Anderson's improvisations with melodic bass work that's alternately jazzy and classical-influenced. The melancholy folk-rock feel of "Look Into the Sun" makes for an emotionally affecting, introspective ballad. The light-hearted "Fat Man" incorporates folk influences with an Eastern-sounding balalaika melody. STAND UP is a portrait of a band in transition, on its way to bigger things, but it's still eminently enjoyable. Editorial reviews

"Jethro Tull, Thick As A Brick - MFSL Mint 24-Karat Gold CD"

Item specifics - Music: CDs Artist: Jethro Tull Format: CD Record Label: Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab UPC: 015775151024 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: Progressive & Art Rock Condition: Like New Special Attributes: 24k Gold Disc, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Thick as a Brick (Part 1) 2. Thick as a Brick (Part 2) Details Playing time: 43 min. Producer: Ian Anderson, Terry Ellis Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes This special limited edition release of THICK AS A BRICK - 25TH ANNIVERSARY contains one previously unreleased live track and interviews with Ian Anderson, Martin Barre and Jeffrey Hammond. Jethro Tull: Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, guitar, violin, saxophone, trumpet); Martin Barre (guitar, lute); John Evan (organ, piano, harpsichord); Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond (bass); Barriemore Barlow (tympani, percussion). Recorded at Morgan Studios, London, England. All tracks have been digitally remastered. While never as high-minded or technically facile as the likes of Yes or ELP, Tull began incorporating complex time changes, sophisticated harmonic structures, and highly developed lyrical themes on THICK AS A BRICK, the realization of the artistic growth begun on AQUALUNG. It is here that Tull finally bursts into full-blown prog-rock mode. While AQUALUNG was a group of discrete compositions united by a theme, THICK AS A BRICK consists of one extended piece that occupies the length of the album. Lyrically, Anderson's intentions are a bit obscure here, but the sophisticated arrangements and virtuoso performances are enough to carry the show. John Evan's piano and organ are at the heart of this complex piece, which moves through an endless succession of tempos, moods, and modes in a manner similar to vintage Genesis or the aforementioned Yes, but with a grittier edge. Most importantly, the whole things flows in a cohesive fashion. THICK AS A BRICK demands close attention, but rewards the same handsomely. Editorial reviews ...their music spins a delicate web of sensitive sounds: sometimes lilting, sometimes soaring to form a brilliant backdrop for the meaningful lyrics and improvisational techniques... "Joan Baez, Diamonds And Rust - Mint with J-Card - MFSL Gold CD - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK "

Diamonds & Rust [Gold Disc CD] - Mint With J-Card Track listing 1. Diamonds & Rust 2. Fountain Of Sorrow 3. Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer 4. Children And All That Jazz 5. Simple Twist Of Fate 6. Blue Sky 7. Hello In There 8. Jesse 9. Winds Of The Old Days 10. Dida 11. I Dream Of Jeannie / Danny Boy Details Contributing artists: Hampton Hawes, Joe Sample, Joni Mitchell, Larry Carlton, Larry Knechtel, Tom Scott, Wilton Felder Producer: David Kershenbaum, Joan Baez Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes Personnel includes: Joan Baez (vocals, acoustic guitar, Moog synthesizer, ARP synthesizer); Joni Mitchell (vocals); Larry Carlton (conductor, acoustic & electric guitars); Dean Parks (acoustic & electric guitars); Red Rhodes (pedal steel guitar); Sidney Sharp, William Kurasch, James Getzoff, Carl La Magna, Robert Konrad, Ronald Folsom, Tibor Zelig, William Hymanson, Robert Ostrowsky, Raymond Kelly (violin); Isabelle Daskoff (viola); Jesse Ehrlich (cello); Tom Scott (flute); Hampton Hawes (piano); Larry Knechtel (piano, electric piano); David Paich (piano, electric harpsichord); Joe Sample (electric piano, Hammond organ); Malcolm Cecil (Moog synthesizer, ARP synthesizer, programming); Reinne Press, Wilton Felder (bass); Jim Gordon (drums); Gordo (percussion); Bob Margouleff (programming). Engineers: Rick Ruggieri, Henry Lewy. Principally recorded at A&M Studios, Hollywood, California on January 21-24, 1975. Includes original release liner notes by Bernard Gelb. Joan Baez scored the biggest commercial success of her career with this 1975 album by tapping into the '70s singer-songwriter zeitgeist in the manner of Joni Mitchell's post-BLUE albums. Baez even recruited Mitchell and her then-current band, the L.A. Express, for the fusion-like groove of "Di Da," and salted the other tracks with guest shots by pop-jazzers Tom Scott, Hampton Hawes, and Larry Carlton. Baez also includes covers of Jackson Browne's "Fountain of Sorrow," John Prine's "Hello in There," and Stevie Wonder's "Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer." DIAMONDS AND RUST is perhaps best viewed as Baez's response to Dylan's confessional BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, including two songs directly addressing their '60s romance (the title track and "Winds of the Old Days"). As in the past, Baez also performs a song from Dylan's most recent album, in this case, "Simple Twist of Fate" from the aforementioned record. DIAMONDS AND RUST is an oddity in Joan Baez's career, but it's one of her strongest albums.

Previously released as a 2-CD set. Personnel: Joe Cocker (vocals); Leon Russell (guitar, piano); Don Preston (guitar, background vocals); Bobby Keys (tenor saxophone); Jim Price (trumpet); Chris Stainton (piano, organ); Carl Radle (bass); Chuck Blackwell (drums, percussion); Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner (drums); Bobby Torres (congas); Sandy Konikoff (percussion); Rita Coolidge, Claudia Linnear, Daniel Moore, Donna Wiess, Pamela Polland, Matthew Moore, Donna Washburn, Nicole Barclay, Bobby Jones (background vocals). Recorded live at The Fillmore East, New York, New York on March 27 & 28, 1970. Includes liner notes by John Mendelsohn. One of the first classic post-Woodstock albums, MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN was recorded at precisely the moment that Cocker and his bandleader Leon Russell found themselves, however briefly, at the epicenter of the rock & roll universe. The big hits of this dynamic live set--the juiced-up version of Traffic's "Feelin' Alright," the Memphis soul revamp of the Box Tops "The Letter"--have been ubiquitous for years, and remain as potent as ever. Some of the less familiar tracks are equally rewarding though, particularly the Cocker/Russell duet on Dylan's "Girl From the North Country" (with the composer in attendance), and the obscure early Ray Charles raver "Sticks and Stones." This one-shot ensemble (including veteran British musicians and the cream of then current L.A. sessioneers) was a great band, however unwieldy (21 members!) and we're lucky to have this document of its only tour.

"Joe Cocker, Sheffield Steel"

MFSL 24K Gold Near Mint+ Open CD Item specifics - Music: CDs Artist: Joe Cocker Release Date: May 09, 1995 Format: CD Record Label: Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab UPC: 015775163126 Genre: Rock Duration: Performer Special Attributes: 24k Gold Disc, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Look What You've Done 2. Shocked 3. Sweet Little Woman 4. Seven Days 5. Marie 6. Ruby Lee 7. Many Rivers to Cross 8. So Good, So Right 9. Talking Back to the Night 10. Just Like Always Contributing artists: Adrian Belew, Jimmy Cliff, Robert Palmer, Sly & Robbie, Wally Badarou Producer: Alex Sadkin, Chris Blackwell Recording mode: Stereo Personnel: Joe Cocker, Jimmy Cliff, Robert Palmer (vocals); Barry Reynolds (guitar, background vocals); Adrian Belew, Mikey Chung (guitar); Wally Badarou (keyboards); Sticky Thompson (percussion); Sly & Robbie. Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas between March 1981 and May 1982. Includes liner notes by J.P. Bean. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Personnel: Joe Cocker (vocals); Barry Reynolds (vocals, guitar); Robbie Shakespeare (vocals, bass); Jimmy Cliff, Robert Palmer (vocals); Mikey Chung, Adrian Belew (guitar); Wally Badarou (keyboards); Sly Dunbar (drums); Sticky Thompson (percussion). Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas. This is a deliberately low-key album by Joe Cocker's standards, but in its slow, simmering way it's nonetheless one of his best. Thanks to a small band anchored by Jamaica's greatest rhythm section--Sly Dunbar on drums and Robbie Shakespeare on bass--the basic sound here is spooky and minimalist, with skittering synth and guitar parts that are unerringly simple, but not simplistic. Cocker himself is in excellent voice. The choice of songs splits the difference between the familiar--Jimmy Cliff's magnificent, often covered "Many Rivers to Cross," and "Seven Days," one of Bob Dylan's best rockers--and the unjustly obscure, such as Bill Withers' way sexy "Ruby Lee," and Jimmy Webb's lovely "Just Like Always." Great stuff.

"John Coltrane, Giant Steps"

MFSL Near Mint Open Gold CD Released in January 1960, John Coltrane's first album devoted entirely to his own compositions confirmed his towering command of tenor saxophone and his emerging power as a composer. Apprenticeships with Dizzy, Miles, and Monk had helped focus his furious, expansive solos, and his stamina and underlying sense of harmonic adventure brought Coltrane, at 33, to a new cusp--the polytonal "sheets of sound" that distinguished his marathon solos were offset by interludes of subtle, concise lyricism, embodied here in the tender "Naima." That classic ballad is a calm refuge from the ecstatic, high-speed runs that spark the set's up-tempo climaxes, which begin with the opening title song, itself a cornerstone of modern jazz composition. This exemplary reissue benefits from eight alternate takes of the original album's seven stellar tracks, excellent re-mastering of the original tapes, and an expanded annotation. -- Tracks include: Giant Steps 2. Cousin Mary 3. Countdown 4. Spiral 5. Syeeda's Song Flute 6. Naima 7. Mr. P.C. 8. Giant Steps [Alternate Take] 9. Naima [Alternate Take] 10. Cousin Mary [Alternate Take] 11. "John Coltrane, Traneing In"

DCC 24K Gold Mint Open CD. The recordings John Coltrane made for Prestige, both with and without Miles Davis, helped establish his first substantial foothold in the jazz world. He showed that he could play the blues; and whether he was treating a ballad at the usual tempo or taking one upstairs, he combined thought and emotion in a completely individual manner. The Garland trio, itself a recording entity for the label, was a strong unit that was sensitive to Trane's musical attitudes. When popular culture embraced John Lee, purists turned up their noses. They should have been pleased that the world's greatest living Delta bluesman was going to make some money before he turned up his toes. Teaming up with Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Canned Heat (not for the first time) and others, lent Hooker's blues a contemporary gloss. It took the album to the upper reaches of the album charts around the world, brought him a number of Grammy awards and a new career in advertising. The blues is not only a healer, it drinks brandy and wears jeans. The Santana guitar solo on the title track is breathtaking and Hooker is the coolest senior citizen in the world. Producers: Yoko Ono, Jack Douglas, John Lennon. Recorded at The Hit Factory, New York, New York. In one of music history's crueler twists of fate, John Lennon was just beginning to make an aesthetic/commercial comeback when he was assassinated in 1980. Earlier that year, the release of DOUBLE FANTASY (after a long layoff from recording, mostly spent raising his young son Sean) let Lennon fans know that he and Yoko were still capable of flaunting their creativity on record. Lennon had matured as a person as well as an artist over the preceding several years, after years of personal trials, and his personal renaissance was evident on DOUBLE FANTASY, with it's cheery, accessible pop tunes celebrating the simple joys of family life. This not being a McCartney album, things never get overly sentimental, even on Lennon's odes to Sean (the shimmering ballad "Beautiful Boy") and Yoko (the '50s-influenced "[Just Like] Starting Over.") Lennon was too complex an artist to release a mindless happy-face album, and even his sunniest observations are deepened by the complexities of his compositional genius. For her part, Yoko contributes some of the finest songs of her career, like the simple but movingly poetic "Every Man Has a Woman Who Loves Him." Lennon's older, wiser worldview is best summed up by the philosophical (and engagingly bouncy) "Watching the Wheels."

Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton - MINT with J-Card Track listing 1. All Your Love 2. Hideaway 3. Little Girl 4. Another Man 5. Double Crossin' Time 6. What'd I Say 7. Key to Love 8. Parchman Farm 9. Have You Heard? 10. Ramblin' on My Mind 11. Steppin' Out 12. It Ain't Right Details Producer: Mike Vernon Distributor: (Independently by Label) Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers: John Mayall (vocals, piano, organ, harmonica); Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar); John McVie (bass); Hughie Flint (drums). Additional personnel: Alan Skidmore (tenor saxophone); John Almond (baritone saxophone); Dennis Healey (trumpet). Includes original release liner notes by Neil Slaven & reissue liner notes by Paul Trynka. 1966's BLUESBREAKERS WITH ERIC CLAPTON is full of portent, as some of its participants would become superstars after its release. Future Cream guitarist Eric Clapton was highly rated enough in the UK blues-rock scene to score second billing, but it wasn't until this recording that he'd had the opportunity to truly stretch out in the studio and show off his awesome soloing skills. Clapton's earlier stint in the Yardbirds had found his ideas largely shouted down by pop-oriented producer/manager Giorgio Gomelsky, but here kindred spirit/producer Mike Vernon simply let Clapton play as he wished. The sympathetic rhythm section of Hughie Flint and future Fleetwood Mac founder John McVie, along with Mayall's best-ever vocals and organ, make BLUESBREAKERS WITH ERIC CLAPTON one of the all-time great British blues albums. Editorial reviews ...Clapton blazes with a maturity beyond his years, and his tone pierces and rumbles with a freedom he's rarely evoked since....shows how even the greats can be elevated by the right rhythm section... Musician (04/01/1995) 4.5 Stars - Very Good/Excellent - ...Clapton displays enough control and buoyant enthusiasm in his playing to justify the scrawling of `Clapton is God' on London walls....Mayall, meantime, explores the upper range of his pale voice with urgency and conviction... Down Beat (08/01/1995) ...Devoted to hard blues, John Mayall's Blues Breakers were the perfect launching pad for Clapton....The album sounds as startling today as it did back in `66, due in large part to MFSL's audiophile production... Living Blues (01/01/1996)

MFSL 24K GOLD CD. "Wild Things Run Fast" is for Joni Mitchell fans. Track listing 1. Chinese Cafe / Unchained Melody 2. Wild Things Run Fast 3. Ladies' Man 4. Moon At The Window 5. Solid Love 6. Be Cool 7. Baby, I Don't Care (You're So Square) 8. You Dream Flat Tires 9. Man To Man 10. Underneath The Streetlight 11. Love Details Playing time: 36 min. Contributing artists: James Taylor, Larry Carlton, Larry Williams, Lionel Richie, Mike Landau, Russell Ferrante, Steve Lukather, Wayne Shorter Producer: Joni Mitchell Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: ADD Album notes Personnel: Joni Mitchell (vocals, piano, guitar); Kim Hutchcroft (baritone saxophone); Larry Klein (bass); John Guerin (drums, background vocals); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Victor Feldman (percussion); James Taylor, Steve Lukather, Wayne Shorter, Lionel Richie, Russell Ferrante, Larry Carlton, Mike Landau, Larry Williams. Background vocals: Charles Valentino, Howard Kinney, Kenny Rankin, Robert De La Garza, Skip Cottrell. Engineers: Henry Lewy, Skip Cottrell, Jerry Hudgins. All songs written by Joni Mitchell except "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care" (Jerry Lieber/Mike Stoller) and "Unchained Melody" (Hy Zaret/Alex North). The Joni Mitchell of the early '80s settled into a mature, adult-contemporary sound that was often a turn-off to her folk/pop following. Many dismissed Mitchell's use of L.A. session musicians and jazz inflections as superficial and flashy. As 1982's WILD THINGS RUN FAST proves, nothing could be further from the truth. Mitchell's compositional skills are as sharp as ever. Her dusky vocals are deftly supported by a group of exceptional players producing a sound that is glossy but full of depth as Mitchell's rich lyrics find a comfortable space in this contemporary setting. The opening "Chinese Cafe" is vintage Joni; a reminiscence of youth through the haunting tones of "Unchained Melody." The driving title track is a refined rocker that Mitchell handles in her signature style. The swinging "Moon At The Window" is a dark blues with guest Wayne Shorter (sax) adding a colorful accompaniment to Mitchell's layered vocals. On a lighter note, the stylized cover of "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care" is a nice departures that make this record a treat. The biggest standout has to be "You Dream Flat Tires," a dynamic shuffle with one of the most complex arrangements that Mitchell has ever recorded.

"Miles Davis, Cookin - Near Mint - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK'"

Near Mint DCC 24K Gold CD. Track listing 1. My Funny Valentine 2. Studio Chatter 3. Blues By Five 4. Airegin 5. Tune-Up / When Lights Are Low Details Playing time: 41 min. Contributing artists: John Coltrane, Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones, Red Garland Producer: Bob Weinstock Distributor: Dunhill Compact Classics Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Mono SPAR Code: n/a Album notes Miles Davis Quintet: Miles Davis (trumpet); John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); Red Garland (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Philly Joe Jones (drums). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey on October 26, 1956. Originally released on Prestige (7094). Includes liner notes by Ira Gitler. Digitally remastered by Steve Hoffman. Miles Davis Quintet: Miles Davis (trumpet); John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); Red Garland (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Philly Joe Jones (drums). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey on October 26, 1956. Originally released on Prestige (7094). Includes liner notes by Ira Gitler. Digitally remastered by JVC using XRCD (Extended Resolution Compact Disc) technology. This is part of the Prestige Records 50th Anniversary Commemorative Special Edition series. This is a Super Audio Hybrid CD playable on Super Audio CD players and regular CD players. COOKIN' WITH THE MILES DAVIS QUINTET documents the last half of the band's final marathon sessions for Prestige, presenting a dynamic portrait of Miles' evolving art. He emerges from the opening tumult of Sonny Rollins' "Airegin," taunting The Rhythm Section (as they were already known) by slowly crafting phrases and marking off wide expanses of space, only to leap back into the maelstrom with long, expressive lines and throttled cries before John Coltrane comes tearing through. Listen to The Rhythm Section's delight in the man-eating tempo of "Tune Up," the big band fills and set-ups that stoke each soloist's furnace, and Philly Joe Jones' electrifying rhythmic exchanges with Miles. Miles--like Rollins and Monk--had cultivated a vast knowledge of popular songs, with a knack for unearthing those oddballs that lent themselves to a jazz interpretation. The Rhythm Section etches a deliberate, definitive lounge tempo for "When Lights are Low," and their discrete contrapuntal flourishes allow Miles to almost defy gravity (a retrofitted Coltrane does, and Red Garland, with his taciturn phrases and translucent block chords, sounds like he wants to disappear). The tender pang Miles imparts with his Harmon mute on "My Funny Valentine" was to permanently alter the trumpet's popular sound. Editorial reviews ...essentially a jam session...interpreting songs as they would in a nightclub...this set is actually quite strong....Coltrane contributed a contrasting solo voice to Miles and the rhythm section...was state-of-the-art....performances are memorable... "Moody Blues, In Search Of The Lost Chord - MFSL Mint Gold CD"

In Search Of The Lost Chord [Gold Disc CD] Track listing 1. Departure 2. Ride My See-Saw 3. Dr. Livingstone, I Presume 4. House Of Four Doors 5. Legend Of A Mind 6. House Of Four Doors (Part 2) 7. Voices In The Sky 8. Best Way To Travel, The 9. Visions Of Paradise 10. Actor, The 11. Word, The 12. Om Details Playing time: 42 min. Producer: Tony Clarke Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes Moody Blues: Justin Hayward (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, 12-string guitar, sitar, harpsichord, piano, Mellotron, bass, percussion, tablas); Mike Pinder (acoustic guitar, cello, autoharp, harpsichord, Mellotron, piano, bass); John Lodge (acoustic guitar, cello, bass, tambourine, snare drum, background vocals); Ray Thomas (C flute, alto flute, soprano saxophone, background vocals); Graeme Edge (piano, drums, timpani, tambourine, tablas). Includes liner notes by Tony Clarke. After helping lay the groundwork for concept albums and progressive rock with 1967's orchestra-enhanced suite DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, the Moodies retrenched for the follow-up. They abandoned the orchestra but kept their sound as rich as before by playing a multitude of instruments themselves, including everything from sitar to cello to oboe. At the time, it was remarkable enough for these instruments to appear on a rock record, much less to be played by the band itself. The string-laden conceptual pieces of DAYS were replaced by shorter, more concise songs that leaned more toward psychedelia and displayed a pronounced Eastern influence. Graham Edge's short spoken-word pieces provide a properly arty framework for the Moodies' blend of swooping mellotron, haunting flute, and rich, multi-tracked harmonies. The slightly Hollies-ish "Ride my Seesaw," one of the band's strongest rockers, is a highlight. Flautist/vocalist Ray Thomas provides the quirky Britishness so essential to late-'60s psychedelia with his music-hall-on-acid number "Dr. Livingstone I Presume." The soaring harmonies of "Legend of a Mind" work in praise of Timothy Leary and his "trips to astral planes." IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD is the most exotic, psychedelic album in the Moodies' catalog.

Recorded live at the Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, California on August 24, 1972. Originally released on MCA Records (6896). Includes liner notes by Karen Shearer. All songs written by Neil Diamond. In addition to his excellent skills as a songwriter, Neil Diamond is also known for his bold, often theatrical performance style. One glance at the cover of HOT AUGUST NIGHT--Diamond clothed in denim and Native American jewelry, with his hands hovering over his body, and an expression suggesting a trance of intensity--and the listener knows he or she is in for some serious performing. The pop icon delivers as expected; HOT AUGUST NIGHT, recorded in 1972 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, documents the epic showmanship of a Neil Diamond concert. Listeners will certainly get their money's worth. Diamond's best-loved songs stuff the two-disc, 25-track set list--the ubiquitous "Sweet Caroline," the infectious "Song Sung Blue," et al, plus versions of "Red Red Wine" and "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon," which he wrote, but were also hits for others. An energetic backing band and a full string section complement the singer's impassioned performances, and an encore medley of "Soolaimon" and "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" brings the show to a fiery close. HOT AUGUST NIGHT remains one of Diamond's best-selling albums. Give it a listen and see why.

Item specifics - Music: CDs Artist: Pink Floyd Release Date: Apr 15, 1989 Format: CD Record Label: Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab UPC: 015775151826 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Condition: Like New Special Attributes: 24k Gold Disc, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. One of These Days 2. Pillow of Winds, A 3. Fearless 4. San Tropez 5. Seamus 6. Echoes Details Playing time: 46 min. Producer: Pink Floyd Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Album notes MEDDLE was the first album to hint at the musical identity that would define Pink Floyd in the mid- to late-'70s. Whereas prior releases like UMMAGUMMA and ATOM HEART MOTHER announced the presence of new singer/guitarist/songwriter David Gilmour, MEDDLE represents the band's Gilmour-influenced evolution toward a sleek, epic, spacey sound. In "Echoes," an ambitious 23-minute soundscape, the pinging of a synthesizer greets the listener before Gilmour's warm, open guitar and gentle crooning gives way to a repetitious, workmanlike rhythm. From here, the music fades into an abyss of whale calls and eerie sonic reverberations. Elsewhere, Floyd dabbles with straightforward cocktail-hour jazz ("San Tropez") and a twisted slow blues ("Seamus"). But it is "One of These Days," MEDDLE's opening track and lone radio staple, that truly previews things to come. Roger Waters's bass, played through a Binson echo unit, establishes the song's manically hypnotic groove, as Richard Wright's synthesizer bursts in and out, Nick Mason's off-kilter drum fills get tossed around, and Gilmour's guitar dive-bombs through it all. These varied sound effects, packaged in a song that clocked in at less than six minutes, were a precedent for the masterpiece that was two years away: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. Editorial reviews 3 Stars - Good - ...The four were at their most collectively prolific at this time... "Queen, News Of The World - MFSl Mint 24-Karat Gold CD"

Item specifics - Music: CDs Artist: Queen Release Date: Oct 08, 1993 Format: CD Record Label: Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab UPC: 015775158825 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: Hard Rock Condition: Like New Special Attributes: 24k Gold Disc, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. We Will Rock You 2. We Are the Champions 3. Sheer Heart Attack 4. All Dead, All Dead 5. Spread Your Wings 6. Fight From the Inside 7. Get Down, Make Love 8. Sleeping on the Sidewalk 9. Who Needs You 10. It's Late 11. My Melancholy Blues Details Playing time: 39 min. Producer: Queen Distributor: n/a Recording type: Mixed Recording mode: Stereo Album notes Queen: Freddie Mercury (vocals, piano); Brian May (guitar, background vocals); John Deacon (bass); Roger Taylor (drums, background vocals). In the tradition of 1975's A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, NEWS OF THE WORLD solidified Queen's position as '70s rock gods while expanding the group's vision through an eclectic batch of tunes. The album is primarily known for the anthemic medley "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions," which would grace sporting events worldwide for decades to come. Like OPERA, though, there's more to this album than the blockbuster hit. The Roger Taylor-sung "Sheer Heart Attack" veers damn close to punk. "Get Down, Make Love" is a funky, vamp-driven number that merges "Whole Lotta Love"-style effects with a brazen sensuality that could make Prince blush. Freddie Mercury indulges his cabaret fantasies with the supper club cha-cha of the Spanish guitar-laced "Who Needs You." Brian May sings the mournful, folkish piano ballad "All Dead, All Dead." Things get downright Cole Porter-ish on the jazzy torch song "My Melancholy Blues." Once again, Queen prove themselves to be capable of much more than the arena rock many take to be their stock in trade. Editorial reviews The album contained such anthemic fare as 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions.'
