"James Brown, Live at the Appollo Volume 2 (2 LPs, limited stock) - 180 Gram by Simply Vinyl"

Simply Vinyl 180 Gram Limited Edition Analog Virgin Vinyl. JAMES BROWN - LIVE AT THE APOLLO Volume II- 180 Gram Limited Edition OUT OF PRINT Simply Vinyl classic LP (made in England - has the best protective packaging I've seen) high-definition Virgin Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. The Simply Vinyl Silver Collection is currently the only way a collector can identify if these U.K. Abbey Road Studio pressings are Out of Print First Generation copies of some of the finest heavy vinyl masterpieces ever made. Thanks to the success of his first LIVE AT THE APPOLO LP from 1963, James Brown and the famed Harlem theater were all but synonymous in the sixties. By the time Brown recorded there again in early summer of 1967, his music had undergone tremendous changes, as revolutionary for R & B as John Coltrane?s sheets-of-sound approach was for jazz. This second LIVE AT THE APOLLO caught Brown giving full stick to both his classic soul-ballad style and the funk his band was developing practically in front of the crowds ears. Even better than previous issues is this terrifically re-mastered version. James Brown is a natural born genius. It is all on this record and I thank God we have the opportunity to hear a genius in his finest hour. Tracks included are: Think - I Want To Be Around - Thanks - Thats Life - Kansas City - Let Yourself Go - There Was A Time - I Feel All Right - Cold Sweat - It May Be The Last Time - I Feel Good - Prisoner Of Love - Out of Sight - Try Me - Bring It Up - It?s A Man's World - Lost Someone - Please, Please, Please

Editorial reviews Ranked #30 in NME's list of the `Greatest Albums Of All Time.' NME (10/02/1993) 4 Stars - Excellent - ...remains Brown's finest recorded document... Q 5 Stars - Excellent - ...without James Brown's brilliant insight into how to foreground rhythms, music from funk to reggae to rap to Afro-pop would be totally different, if it existed at all... Down Beat (09/01/1990) 5 stars out of 5 - A serious candidate for greatest live album ever, this was the first and best document of Mr. Dynamite's numerous appearances at the Harlem hotspot. Q

"Led Zeppelin, Houses Of The Holy - Japanese Replica LP in a CD (with OBI Sash)"

LED ZEPPELIN – HOUSES OF THE HOLY - THIS IS THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE 1ST EDITION RELEASE This is a Japanese digitally re-mastered Mini LP replica Limited Edition Collection with OBI sash down the front – only 2,000 Collector pieces made world-wide and are immediately Out of Print. Recorded from the finest Original Masters available. Comes with anti-static sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging like an LP, includes extensive Liner Notes Booklet. Actual miniaturized version of the 12” LP in 4” CD version. HOUSES OF THE HOLY was the nickname Led Zeppelin concocted for the huge sports arenas they were then playing because, by the time, HOUSES OF THE HOLY was released on March 28, 1973, Led Zeppelin was among the biggest tourning bands in all of rock and in producer/composer/guitarist - Jimmy Page, they had one of the most gifted arrangers. Although compared to their previous two albums, HOUSES OF THE HOLY if more of a bare-bones back to the roots kind of production. Certainly, tunes like "The Rain Song", "Over The Hills And Far Away" and "No Quarter" showcase vocalist, Plant's whispers/to/a/scream range, Jones' tasteful use of emerging electronic keyboard technologies and Page's expressive use of multiple guitar tracks to create an orchestral ambience. But, on the whole, there is more of an emphasis on the rhythmatic inter-play between Page, Jones and Bonham from the James Brown derived funk of "The Crunge" and the reggaish dance breaks of "D'yer Mak'er" to the menacing eastern modalities of "Dancing Days" and the rocking revups of "The Song Remains The Same" and "The Ocean". Recorded during the Spring of 1972 at Star Grooves (one of Mick Jagger's homes) and through the Summer of 1972 at Olympic Studios in London and Electric Lady in New York City. HOUSES OF THE HOLY - After the album Led Zeppelin IV surprisingly became one of the most lauded and biggest-selling albums in rock history, the group faced a challenge head-on and created a compelling follow up. Released in May of 1973, Houses of the Holy is perhaps their most accessible, commerical yet ambitious title. Maturing from the blues quartet that had catapulted them onto the scene, producer/guitarist Jimmy Page really started expanding his studio skills and vision after Led Zep II. Here, on their fifth album, each member takes a turn shining. They complimented each other perfectly and could still rock with the best of them: even their acoustic songs could rock! Each song is an adventure: folk, middle-Eastern, blues, there's even a hint of R&B/soul here and there. All in all, this is an exceptional collection. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. The Song Remains The Same 2. The Rain Song 3. Over the Hills and Far Away 4. The Crunge 5. Dancing Days 6. D'yer Mak'er 7. No Quarter 8. The Ocean

"Solomon Burke, Don't Give Up On Me (2 LPs, 180 Gram White Vinyl)"

180 Gram Limited Edition Analog Virgin Vinyl. Of all the great male '60s soul singers--a short list that includes Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and James Brown--only Solomon Burke still actively records. More amazing, he's produced his best full-length album with Don't Give Up on Me. It's easy to give some credit to the album's star songwriters, who include Burke fans Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Brian Wilson, and Bob Dylan. But really it's the quality of the songs and Burke himself, one of the most versatile and charismatic singers around, that make this album so special. The 11 songs range from the lazy, seductive plea of the title track and the gravelly gospel of "Diamond in Your Mind" to the country-soul of "Other Side of the Coin" and the civil-rights-era urgency of "None of Us Are Free." Joe Henry's production is suitably subdued, and the instrumentation--generally guitar, bass, drums, organ, and piano--is sympathetic throughout. And if you doubt that Burke is the real star in a room crowded with those folks, consider this: the two slightest tracks here were written by Wilson and Costello, while one of the best, the album-closing "Sit This One Out," was written by someone named Pick Purnell. A great album not fixed in the past or fully of this decade, Don't Give Up is a crowning achievement of an R&B pioneer who has returned to reclaim his self-bestowed title from the '60s: "The King of Rock and Soul." It is easy to give credit to the album's star songwriters, who include Burke fans Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Brian Wilson, and Bob Dylan. But really it's the quality of the songs and Burke himself, one of the most versatile and charismatic singers around, that make this album so special.

"O'Blues Where Art Thou - Varioius Artists"

O' BLUES WHERE ART THOU? - VARIOUS ARTISTS - LAST COPY - 180 Gram very LONG OUT OF PRINT Limited Edition classic analog LP high-definition Virgin Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. MASTERED & compiled BY STEVE HOFFMAN In the years folowing world war II, the major record companies went back into full production. Styles & tastes were changing, & these companies were rushing out product to meet the demands of "Middle America". Unfornately, these companies often neglected the tastes of other Americans, especially blacks & rural whites. this void helped open the door for a number of independent labels. In 1947, a young New York jazz enthusiat, named Bob Shad, left his job as A&R man for the National and form Castle Record Company. Within a year, this company would be issuing records on its "Sittin' In With" Label. These 1st releases were skillfully produced, & featured the music that he knew best, jazz. Fortunately for the blues world, Shad had become close friends with Joe Bilhari, of Modern Records, a leading blues and R&B label. Joe Bihari was one of the foremost blues producers in the world, and together they traveled through the south, where Modern was selling thousands of records. This was a learning experience for Shad, and he returned to New York and prepared to record some of the local blues artists, including Brownie Mcghee and Wilbert "Big Chief" Ellis. These first efforts were done with the same perfection as the jazz releases. Joe Bihari suggested a trip to the south, where he could record local talent in Southern recording studios or radio stations. Shad decides to make the trip, but rather than go into studios, which were often poorly equipped or very expensive, he purchased a portable Magnecord tape recorder for recordingin the field. By early 1950, the company was turning out hits by southern artists that are apart of this collection. Fortunately, the tapes were preserved and are now being presented to a new generation of blues enthusiasts.
