"Sly & The Family Stone, Greatest Hits - 180 Gram"

SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE - GREATEST HITS - 180 Gram OUT OF PRINT RARE Limited Edition classic LP with the expensive Gate-Fold Cover is a high-definition Virgin Heavy Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity . The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and your ears. LAST COPY FOREVER Collectors Note: This limited edition heavy vinyl pressing is now out of print & gone from the last distributor that had any of these pressing left within their inventory. This means that this specific title is "Here Today but For Sure Gone Tomorrow Forever". So Don't Miss Out on BEING ONE OF THE LAST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD TO add this masterpiece to your collection. Sly and the Family Stone, led by the enigmatic Sylvester Stewart (aka Sly Stone), were a pioneering funk band in the 60s and 70s who merged rock with funk, had a sexually and racially integrated line-up, and who famously moved from optimistic party anthems and hippy idealism to drug-induced frustration and paranoia. Sly and the Family Stone were formed in 1966 when Sly Stone merged his struggling band with the struggling band of his brother Freddie, and added bassist Larry Graham. A debut album received good reviews but didn't sell well, so they were reluctantly persuaded to record an overtly commercial single to boost their reputation. Sly came up with the goods in January 1968 with the raucous party anthem "Dance to the Music", which got to No.8 in the pop charts and influenced the sound of soul music for the next several years. There are a few interesting innovations in just this one song: it is performed by a racially integrated group and with instrumental participation by women, it included rock guitar parts in a funk song, and there are four lead singers who take turns to sing. This was followed in 1969 by their first classic album, Stand!, which included hit singles "Everyday People/Sing a Simple Song" and "I Want to Take You Higher". It eventually sold over three million copies and was followed by a famous Woodstock appearance, and another hit single: "Hot Fun in the Summertime". But internal differences were arising and illicit drug use was increasing at this time, so in the following two years only one single was released. "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" (December 69) is important for two reasons: it prominently featured Larry Graham's new slap-bass method that would become a standard in funk; and it signified the beginning of Sly and the Family Stone's darker period, as they expressed their frustration that the hippy ideals they once offered, of peace and love for all mankind, weren't working. For much of 70/71, Sly Stone sank deeper into a drug habit and retreated from recording duties. A comeback single, "Family Affair", reached No.1 in late 1971, before the November release of their most acclaimed work: There's a Riot Goin' On. An album of melancholy and frustration, it announced the passing of 60s idealism and the new reality of widespread socio-economic problems. Despite the dark themes, it reached No.1 and is regarded as one of the greatest albums of the decade. Subsequent albums, such as Fresh (1973) and Small Talk (1974), Fresh is now considered as an important album in the development of funk, while their work overall is regarded as highly influential for artists such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Eventually the band fizzled out as members became increasingly frustrated with Sly's erratic and unreliable behaviour, and bookings for live shows dried up. Officially splitting in 1975, some of the key members have since reformed and were touring Europe with Sly in 2007. As a title would lead you to believe, these are the GREATEST HITS from a group that had a fair share of hits from the late sixties, early seventies from one of Rock N Rolls Top 50 Rated Rock n Roll acts of All-Time. Too Pop savvy to be merely a Funk Band and too darn Funky to be just a Rock Band, Sly and his multi-cultural crew (Family Stone) made intelligent party music that crossed boundaries and became AM/Radio staples. Included in this collection are smash hits like - Dance To The Music - Sing A Simple Song - M’Lady - Thank You - I Want To Take You Higher - Everybody Is A Star - Stand - You Can Make It If You Try - Everyday People and - Hot Fun In The Summertime. What more can you ask, just get down and P-A-R-T-Y to this Audiophile Masterpiece of Vinyl. "Sly & The Family Stone, There's A Riot Goin' On"

Classic Analog LP Pressing - Out of Print Certain albums both define a specific point in time and yet manage to be timeless. Such an album is THERE‘S A RIOT GOIN' ON. After a few records of sexy, sunny, but never cavalier funk/pop, the twisted genius of Sly Stone turned dark, moody, reflective, angry, but no less funky for the contemplation. Stone created an album that spoke not only to the turmoil gripping America in 1971, but also to the chaos whirling around his increasingly drugged personal life. This is an album of dangerous beauty, where even the hit ("Family Affair") is guarded and haunting Tracks include: 1. Luv N' Haight 2. Just Like a Baby 3. Poet 4. Family Affair 5. Africa Talks to You "The Asphalt Jungle" 6. Brave and Strong 7. (You Caught Me) Smilin' 8. Time 9. Spaced Cowboy 10. Runnin' Away 11. Thank You for Talkin' to Me Africa

"Sly And The Family Stone, Life - 140 Gram Vinyl"

SLY & THE FAMILY STONE - LIFE - 140 Gram Limited Edition classic LP high-definition Virgin Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity. First, let me say that this recording is non-stop fun and brilliance. Life is Sly at his best. It's one of his most consistent releases and my personal favorite. Now, on to setting the "record" straight. Amazon's mis-informed editorial reviewer erroneously puts Life's release BEFORE The Family Stone's breakthrough album, Dance To The Music. Anyone experiencing the original vinyl issues of Sly's discography as they happened remembers the chronology: A Whole New Thing (1967); Dance To The Music (Spring/Summer 1968); Life (Fall/Winter 1968). The title track from DTTM hit the singles charts in Summer 1968. Life was the superior sounding follow-up LP that offered funk rock and pop at its finest (M'Lady, Into My Own Thing, Fun, I'm An Animal, etc.). Jane Is A Groupee is arguably one of the most explosive cuts that Sly ever tracked. Life's title song was released as the first single from the record, but failed to follow DTTM up the charts. The group would later return with hit singles like Everyday People, Hot Fun In The Summertime, Everybody Is A Star and Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).

Prairie Wind is an adventure akin to taking a drive through one's own life stopping off to revisit old friends and loved ones along the way. For Neil Young fans this album delivers songs that instantly stick in your mind as familiar. Tunes like "Falling Off The Face Of The Earth" and "The Painter" evoke thoughts of introspection that remind us of our humanity and its ultimate fragility. "No Wonder" feels like a early 70's anthem applied to more recent events while "Far From Home", with its bluesy harmonic interludes and horn accompaniment, tells a story of fond reminiscence of childhood and growing up. "It's A Dream" incites one to confront how fleeting our surroundings are and ,in a sense, the desire to have them remain as more than "just a memory without anywhere to stay". The title track weaves the same bluesy harmonica and horn section with a group backup singers to create an eerie and evocative scene. Neil Young has created in "Here for You" possibly the ultimate love song with a pace and harmonica rifts reminiscent of Bob Dylan in the mid 60's if he'd been in Nashville. "This Old Guitar" is a masterful story of life that is impossible not to relate to in one way or another and features a great backing vocal from Emmy Lou Harris making this tune even more special. "He Was King" is clearly a tribute to Elvis which harkens back to an easier time. The final track "When God Made Me" asks the questions about our humanity we all ponder at some time in our lives. This is an album, dedicated to his father that Neil Young made for himself, his friends and family and is giving, as a gift, to the rest of us. We can all benefit from the insights contained here and possibly gain some important perspectives on life - thanks Neil. Classic Records, in cooperation with Reprise Records and Neil Young are proud to present "Prairie Wind" as a Deluxe 2 LP gatefold edition. Included is an 18 page 12" x 12" booklet with lyrics and photos printed with soy based inks on paper that is from sustainable forests and Rain Forest Alliance certified. The LP mastering and cutting was done at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood by Chris Bellman using the original 1/2" analog master tapes with plating and pressing on Classic's proprietary 200g QUIEX Super Vinyl Profile at RTI. The sound is, to put it bluntly, without compare and sets a new standard for sonic achievement. Is this Grammy worthy? You bet it is. As an added bonus, side 4 of the set is an interview with Neil discussing guitars, equipment, music, musicians and musical arrangers among others things. Not to be missed! Facing potentially life-threatening surgery, Young entered the recording studio to express his ruminations on the fragility and wonders of life. The spectacularly natural analog sound floods the space between your speakers with a pristine clarity and dynamic power that will convince you Young and crew are in your room playing just for you. I imagine that's how he wanted it. As for the incredible packaging: try downloading that!"

JIMI HENDRIX - BLUE WILD ANGEL - LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT - MCA 3-LP Set is a piece of musical audiophile history of this classic recording. The authorized Hendrix Family Edition - Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram Triple LP Set (Only Vinyl Pressing ever) - 18 songs - entire 120 minute concert - Includes 6 Rare unreleased performances - Features Full Color Booklet with rare photos and Liner Notes Jimi Hendrix’ ISLE OF WIGHT concert of August 1970 was a historic occasion, it being his last major performance before his untimely death. He had returned to the country where he had skyrocketed to fame and gave his first performance in almost two years when he headlined the ISLE OF WIGHT Festival. Less than three weeks later, he would be dead. As such, it has acquired a mythic status over time. This triple LP Set marks the first complete release of Hendrix’s set at the Festival, a warts-and-all recording that reveals a guitar legend in good humor, yet restlessly exploring the broader musical directions he’d just laid down on sessions for what would become FIRST RAYS OF THE NEW RISING SUN (initially released posthumously as FREEDOM). Backed by EXPERIENCE drummer Mitch Mitchell and BAND OF GYPSIES Bassist Billy Cox, Hendrix ranges from the improvisatory cacophony of “Machine Gun” and re-workings of his standard blues workouts “Red House” and “Hey Joe” to renditions of “Dolly Dagger,” “Ezy Rider,” “Freedom,” and “Hey Baby” that trade on the more rhythmic R&B and jazz influences he’d diligently worked into his music. At times jagged, and straining the limitations of the trio format (Hendrix had publicly mused about working with a big band shortly before his death), it is nonetheless a passionate, intriguing clue as to Hendrix’s true ambitions and potential beyond his initial hype and stardom.

People often forget that Tull started out as a forward-looking blues-rock unit not dissimilar to contemporaries like Cream and Led Zeppelin. While the blues influence is heard most clearly on the debut THIS WAS, its successor STAND UP still shows some of those traces. Tracks like "A New Day Yesterday" and "Nothing Is Easy" are the prime examples of this hard-hitting, bluesy riff-rock approach. Elsewhere, though, the boys begin to show some of the folk, jazz, and classical influences that would soon make them a leading exponent of progressive rock. "Bouree" is a flute-led instrumental track that combines Ian Anderson's improvisations with melodic bass work that's alternately jazzy and classical-influenced. The melancholy folk-rock feel of "Look Into the Sun" makes for an emotionally affecting, introspective ballad. The light-hearted "Fat Man" incorporates folk influences with an Eastern-sounding balalaika melody. STAND UP is a portrait of a band in transition, on its way to bigger things, but it's still eminently enjoyable. Editorial reviews 4 stars out of 5 -- [T]he album captured the band on a vertiginous upswing, jubilant with confidence....A winning combination of brisk, cartwheeling rockers... Record Collector 4 stars out of 5 -- Anderson's superlative melodies have survived the test of time. Mojo 4 out of 5 stars - ...One of prog rock's neglected classics... Q (20011101) ...quite marvelous....[Ian Anderson] revels a melodic gift on this album...a fuller awareness of the coloristic possibilities of the flute, and a catholicity of taste....a meticulously crafted work, which deserves careful listening... "Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Sky Is Crying - Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD"

The Sky Is Crying - Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD Track listing 1. Boot Hill 2. Sky Is Crying, The 3. Empty Arms 4. Little Wing 5. Wham 6. May I Have A Talk With You 7. Close To You 8. Chitlins Con Carne 9. So Excited 10. Life By The Drop THE SKY IS CRYING is a collection of 10 previously unreleased studio tracks compiled by Stevie Ray's brother Jimmie Vaughan. Master Sound releases are 24-karat gold CDs remastered from first generation masters. This process utilizes 20-bit technology and Sony's "Super Bit Mapping" system. Personnel: Stevie Ray Vaughan (guitar, vocals); Reese Wynans (keyboards); Tommy Shannon (bass); Chris Layton (drums). Producers: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, Richard Mullen, Jim Capfer, Jim Gaines. Reissue producer: Jimmie Vaughn. Recorded at The Power Station, New York, New York from January to February 1984; The Dallas Sound Lab, Dallas, Texas from March to May 1985; Kiva Studios, Memphis, Tennessee from February to April 1989; Sound Castle Studios, Los Angeles, California from April to May 1989. Includes liner notes by Dan Forte. Vaughan's death in August 1990 brought to a tragic end the surging wave of his popularity. The album he had made with his brother Jimmie, FAMILY STYLE, had just been released and this album, prepared by Jimmie from the various album sessions, was not expected to amount to much. In fact, this was at least as good as any of them--and better than LIVE ALIVE. "Little Wing" was perhaps his best adaptation of a Jimi Hendrix song. His take on the Elmore James title song was also a fitting tribute to both the writer and the performer. There are bound to be further compilations and live recordings released, but these studio recordings are testimony to Stevie Ray's devotion to his craft. Editorial reviews 4 Stars - Excellent - ...the blusiest collection of [Vaughn's] career...could well be his best...there's so much presence, passion and heart in these performances that it's harder than ever to believe that Stevie's gone... Rolling Stone Magazine (11/28/1991) ...the best showcase the fiery Texan has ever had...variety, warmth, individuality... - Rating: A- Entertainment Weekly (11/29/1991)

It is a new listening experience that will virtually make you feel as if you were in the studio with the band. The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and ears. So, sit back, relax, enjoy the music, and remember the sound. SCORSESE BLUES ON BLUE VINYL DOUBLE LP SET - As part of the numerous compilations issued in conjunction with the major television documentary series The Blues, this is a collection of blues-oriented Hendrix recordings. There is a previous compilation of Hendrix's blues-oriented work in 1994, simply titled Blues. There is little repetition between Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues and Blues, though, and it works as a decent grouping of some of his bluesiest recordings for those listeners who want to plunge especially deeply into one facet of his repertoire. "Red House" and "Voodoo Chile" are by far the most celebrated tracks here. The fine Earl King cover "Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" (from Electric Ladyland) is the only other song that came out in Hendrix's lifetime The other selections vary from inspired ("Hear My Train a Comin'," recorded in early 1969 with the original Jimi Hendrix Experience lineup, and a solo "Midnight Lightning") to straight ahead jams, with Hendrix's imaginative virtuosity and affinity for the blues evident. This being a posthumous Hendrix release, it couldn't be complete without a couple of previously unissued tracks to tempt the completists, Those are the 1969 outtakes "Georgia Blues," on which Hendrix is actually more like a backing musician for Lonnie Youngblood (who takes lead vocals), and "Blue Window," a nearly 13-minute outing that gives vent to his jazzier tendencies, the arrangement also featuring organ, three saxophones, and two trumpets. The liner notes about Jimi's blues record collecting habits by mid-'60s girlfriend Faye Pridgon are pretty cool. A must for Hendrix LP lovers. Side One 1. Red House 2. Voodoo Chile Side Two 1. Come On (Let the Good Times Roll) 2. Georgia Blues 3. Country Blues SIde Three 1. Hear My Train A Comin' 2. It's Too Bad Side Four 1. My Friend 2. Blue Window 3. Midnight Lightning JIMI HENDRIX - Axis Bold As Love - MONO - 200 GRAM MASTERPIECE An authorized Hendrix Family Limited Edition faithfully restored re-mastered from the Original Archive Tapes. Q Magazine said that “Axis dazzles as The Experience creates a genre probably short-lived because nobody else could play it. Jazz Metal might be the appropriate tag. “ Vibe Magazine said “for folks who have never heard Jimi Hendrix on vinyl, the Rainbow fantasia world of Hendrix awaits you in all its polyphonic peacock glory.” Axis Bold As Love made Billboard’s Top 200 List as #5 in February of 1968. This release, for the first time, with all the Original Artwork, you can experience The Experience as was originally intended. Axis Bold As Love was the follow up to Are You Experienced? and represented a much more concise use of the recording studio possibilities. The mix -- cleaner and brighter than ever -- on this re-issue is clearer and more open reflecting Hendrix’ growing concern for color and texture. Where his live shows continue to showcase the raw rocking power of The Experience, the recording studio gave Hendrix the composer/arranger a broader pulpit to work with. There are still plenty of powerful Blues/Rock infected songs such as the menacing - If 6 Was 9, the rolling - Spanish Castle Magic, and the spatial title tune. But Up From the Skies - is a jazzy trio romp featuring Hendrix bluesy vocalized wah-wah pedal and on the ballads - Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand - Hendrix shifts the focus from the band to the silvery chord/melodic accompaniments he often employed to compliment his vocals. They are an orchestral effect unto themselves. HENDRIX SMASH HITS 1ST EDITION EACH INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED LP SET - Considering that these days they use 64 or more channels, with this Hendrix Pressing you are literally in the studio with Hendrix because there is no manipulation of the session - just laying it down on two tracks. An authorized Hendrix Family Limited Edition faithfully restored/re-mastered from the Original Archive Tapes by Eddie Kramer, the original Engineer of The Hendrix Experience. Includes Original Artwork and an 8-Page Photo Booklet never before released. This Sonic Gem includes: PURPLE HAZE - FIRE - THE WIND CRIES MARY - CAN YOU SEE ME? - HEY JOE - ALL ALONG THE WATCH TOWER - STONE FREE - CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC - A MANIC DEPRESSION - REMEMBER - RED HOUSE - FOXY LADY. NOEL REDDINGThe Experience Sessions presents a collection of rare and previously-unreleased studio recordings made by Noel Redding, who played bass for two-and-three-quarter years with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The record also contains the master takes of Redding's two stand-out original compositions, "Little Miss Strange" and "She's So Fine," both of which turned up on Hendrix records. The record also includes previously-unreleased alternate recordings of these two tracks, offering a fascinating insight into the inner-workings of the group in the studio. This disc is a cause for celebration simply for the fact that many of the tracks feature blistering guitar work from Jimi Hendrix. And on one previously-unreleased song, "Dream," Hendrix plays the bass and Redding the guitar. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings Side One There Ain't Nothing Wrong Little Miss Strange Walking Through the Garden She's So Fine Little, Little Girl How Can I Live Side Two Noel's Tune [Take 1] Noel's Tune [Take 2] Little Miss Strange She's So Fine Dream Red House

"Spirit, Spirit / Clear Spirit (2 LPs)"

CLEAR SPIRIT - The Family That Plays Together" (their 2nd LP - yes, I said "LP") was released back in 1968 and an amazing unique sound - this is one group that had few peers...they were years ahead of most of the music scene back then...and, light years ahead of the music scene today (yet, somehow, they remain sadly kind of obscure in the musical scheme of things - almost like a rare gem, hiding out and waiting to be discovered - again! Except for those who have always treasured their important, barrier-breaking contributions to rock & roll). Eclectic, melodic, original, whimsical, thought-provoking...these are just a few words to describe the myriad of colors Spirit sound-painted with. This album is just as brilliant as the other three - a new adventure, a departure, yet completely familiar to any fan of Spirit's catalogue of music. Check out rockers like "Dark Eyed Woman", "Ground Hog" or "I'm Truckin'" and then simmer down with beautiful, almost tearful melodies like "Give A Life, Take A Life" and moody, provocative instrumentals like "Ice" & the title track...you'll be blown away! Bonus cuts are excellent too... "Fuller Brush Man" is sheer whit & genius! I believe this was one band that recorded lots more material than they ever released, so we can only hope for more magic from the vaults of Spririt. Also, after listening to any of their first (4) LP's (with all five original members), you will understand why so many British prog bands of the late 60's/early 70's would site Spirit as a definitive influence -- they left an electric legacy for our modern-day rock & roll-starved souls to continuously rediscover and immerse ourselves in! SPIRIT - What a magically engrossing affair this is. Spirit was certainly a very special band from a very interesting time in rock history. The group's albums are a compelling blend of psychedelic rock and jazz, and I find their adventurous allure a constant delight. Drummer Ed Cassidy completely understood jazz and rock. This is why the transitions between the rock rhythms and the jazz rhythms are seamless and utterly convincing. Much of his drumming on the album suggests far more than he's actually playing, while his perfect choices time and again yield the perfect complement to the music. Listen closely to what he plays on "Straight Arrow"; always interesting, always brilliant. Randy California's guitar work is magnificent throughout. Oh, the sound he gets on his solo in "Mechanical World"--what an incredibly delicious tone! And, the guitar harmonies at the end of "Gramophone Man" are simply divine. Most of the tunes were written by Jay Ferguson, and are fantastic vehicles for the band to show off their unique style. "Girl In Your Eye" floats along beautifully, with sitar shadowing the melody. Listen closely to the guitar line in "Taurus" and you'll hear where the main line during the verse in Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" came from. On the jazzy "Elijah," the final original-album cut, we hear something intriguing: even when the band goes to straight improvisation, they don't lose their musical identity; they still sound like Spirit. Do you love psychedelia, the 60s, great and imaginative music? Get this. These guys won't disappoint. (The delightful and informative liner notes were written by Randy California in 1996.
