Recorded at The Record Plant, New York, New York in 1975 & 1976. Originally released on Columbia (34164). Includes liner notes by Lenny Kaye.
Feted by heavy metal fans, this was a much broader album that put them in touch with AOR radio, and consequently took them out of their heavy rock ghetto. The ace in their tarot pack was the entrancing and enchanting "Don't Fear The Reaper" - the greatest song that the original Byrds never wrote. Flowing and chiming it put the band in the pop charts with a song of rare quality and consequently pushed this album's sales. The other tracks struggle to compete with the Reaper, but there are moments, especially with "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini," on which Patti Smith narrates.
Editorial reviews
4 Stars - Excellent - ...AGENTS OF FORTUNE contained the all-time classic `(Don't Fear) The Reaper'....the album remains the band's most durable...
Q Magazine (08/01/1994)
...This record still sounds great....The bonus tracks are fascinating....you've got an evening's worth of air-guitar nostalgia. Special.
Mojo (09/01/2001)
3 1/2 stars out 5 - ...[A] genre classic...

"Nuggets, Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era - Doulbe LP"
NUGGETS1965 - 68 - Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era Double LP pressed in the EUROPE and some of the finest Collections of Rare CLASSIC ROCK Masterpieces ever released on Analog Vinyl.
These FOREIGN pressings are sent with the vinyl outside of the jackets when being shipped to the U.S. to protect the covers from damage. Once inside the our wherehouse we then protectively seal the title in a loose re-sealable plastic cover to ensure the quality of the product. This title is brand new & never played condition. Don't Miss out.
It all started back in 1971 when music aficionado and future Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye lovingly compiled the now-classic (and long out-of-print) two-LP collection called Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968 for Elektra Records. During the '80s, Rhino attempted to pick up the ball by releasing their own Nuggets volumes. Now, both Rhino and Kaye combine forces to set the record straight, once and for all. Their new Nuggets box set not only contains the original Kaye-compiled album in its entirety but also completes the picture with essential psychedelic tunes that were left off the first time around. It's guaranteed to give you a "psychotic reaction."

Album notes
Full title: Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The 1st Psychedelic Era 1965-1968.This 4-disc box is an anthology expanded from the multi-volume Rhino NUGGETS series--originally produced by Lenny Kaye as a 2-LP collection in 1972--that traces the roots of regional American garage-punk/psychedelic bands like the Seeds, the Electric Prunes and the Standells. The accompanying booklet includes an introduction by Lenny Kaye and a track-by-track guide by Mike Stax, editor of the garage-punk fanzine Ugly Things.Compilation producers: Lenny Kaye, Gary Stewart.Includes liner notes by Bill Inglot, Lenny Kaye, Greg Shaw, Alec Palao and Mike Stax.Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch (DigiPrep, Hollywood, California).A compilation that actually defined a genre, this sent out musical ripples that influenced innumerable bands, from the Damned to R.E.M. Compiler Lenny Kaye even gave the genre a name: punk. Although the music was later better known as "garage," Kaye--himself about to pioneer 70s punk as Patti Smith's guitarist--was onto something when he asserted that America's aggressive teen bands of the mid-60s were the original punks. To prove that this was not an isolated, parochial movement, Kaye included not only Top 40 hits such as the Castaways' "Liar, Liar" and the Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction," but also buried treasures like the Remains' classic "Don't Look Back" and the Chocolate Watch Band's "Let's Talk About Girls."

EASTER - Patti Smith cowrote her first big hit, "Because the Night," with Bruce Springsteen, and that track was the force behind this album's ascent of the U.S. Top 40. Never fully departing from her punk-poetess roots, Easter was nonetheless produced by hit maker Jimmy Iovine, resulting in a more accessible overall sound than her earlier work. Her vocal gymnastics and dramatic rock & roll sensibilities threw sparks in every direction, with the vitriolic "Rock N Roll Nigger" and the anthemic "Till Victory" further paving the way for punks and women rockers everywhere. Churchly keyboards and huge drums drive Smith's quest for "a reason to live" on the religiously inquisitive "Privilege" and she's unabashedly sexy on the raunchy "25th Floor." A great work all around
