Teaming up with Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Canned Heat (not for the first time) and others, lent Hooker's blues a contemporary gloss. It took the album to the upper reaches of the album charts around the world, brought him a number of Grammy awards and a new career in advertising. The blues is not only a healer, it drinks brandy and wears jeans. The Santana guitar solo on the title track is breathtaking and Hooker is the coolest senior citizen in the world.

SWEETWATER - SWEETWATER 180 Gram Limited Edition classic LP high-definition Heavy Virgin Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity.
There are great songs about everything from rebellion to romatic walk. One of my personal favorites is My Crystal Spider. The lyrics are so detailed and descriptive that you can imagine the mystical creature. Then the spider is brought to life with August Burns' cello solo. I personally had never before heard a cello solo before. This is really fun CD to listen to at any time of the day at any day of the year. The music is so awesome that its just a euphoric magical ride through each song.
Their 1968 debut introduced Sweetwates unusual blend of jazz, folk, rock, blues and classical influences, with an atypical, guitar-free line-up of keyboards, bass, cello, flute and percussion backing Nancy Nevins soaring vocals. The bands signature adaptation of 'Motherless Child' leads off, followed by 'Here We Go Again; For Petes Sake; Come Take a Walk; Whats Wrong; In a Rainbow; My Crystal Spider; Rondeau; Two Worlds; Through an Old Storybook', and 'Why Oh Why'. A West Coast psychedelic essential, produced by the legendary Dave Hassinger!
Interesting that at Woodstock, Sweetwater was shortly preceeded by Richie Havens, the first performer to perform, who did his famous version of Motherless Child.
I will never forget Nancy Nevins in her long gown, at the biginning of Sweetwater's set, starting the song from the back of the huge stage and slowly walking forward to the front. It was hot, there were SO many very cool people, we were not paying all that much attention to the music yet. The beginning of that song quieted and focused the crowd and things went from there...Not many people had heard of Sweetwater in mid August '69. For that matter, in a flyer that was distributed at the event, Santana was introduced "as this new great new act from San Francisco." Ah, those were the days...
Shortly after Woodstock, Nevins sustained severe injury in a car wreck; the band disappeared.

SO FOR A LIMITED RUN CLASSIC RECORDS WENT TO PRESSING VINYL IN 180 GRAM WEIGHTS. THEN WHEN OIL DROPPED TO $50 A BARREL THE 200 GRAM WEIGHTS CAME BACK. THESE 180 GRAM PRESSINGS IF YOU CAN FIND ONE HAD A TREMENDOUSLY SHORT RUN AND MOST WERE ONLY PRESSED IN A FEW HUNDRED PIECES. A COLLECTORS LIMITED EDITION DREAM. ESPECIALLY SINCE CLASSIC RECORDS NOW HAS MOST OF ITS PREVIOUS TITLES OUT OF PRINT.

The Healer was oddly a major mainstream breakthrough for John Lee Hooker. The album was one of the first to feature a wide array of guest stars, including Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, Johnnie Johnson and Los Lobos and Carlos Santana. The album immediately captured widespread media attention because of all the superstar musicians involved in its production and has to date been John Lee's most successful release. Recorded in analog and mixed to quarter-inch 15ips analog tape, the sound is better than almost any other Hooker recording. Transferred from the original quarter-inch analog tapes by Bernie Grundman using Classic's "all-tube" cutting system, this version has a warmth and comfort this record has never had. If you're a John Lee Hooker fan, then this is a must! Great sound and classic Hooker guitar and vocal performances.

This 3-disc box set contains over 50 tracks, all remastered. It also includes a 64-page booklet containing extensive liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin and Bill Thompson, complete recording notation and a U.S. release discography. The set spans a period from an early Marty Balin solo recording in 1962 through a live recording of "You Wear Your Dresses Too Short" from 1972.
If any group deserves a box set career retrospective, it's the Airplane, a great band that post-punk critics have scandalously undervalued. Sorry, but the Airplane was not--repeat, not--just a bunch of stoned hippies singing innocuous little ditties about flower power. Rather, they were one of the most ferocious live acts of their day, terrific songwriters capable of both tender ballads and squalling, almost atonal rockers, and they had attitude to burn, which is a roundabout way of saying that they had more in common with the punks that followed them than those punks were prepared to admit.
In any case, this set is not strictly speaking a greatest-hits package, although just about every important Airplane song is represented; it is LOVES YOU's smart idea, however, to present most of them in previously unreleased live versions. This is a particularly good move, given that the Airplane's studio albums, up to and including VOLUNTEERS, were consistently among the worst produced of any major band of their era, and while no live recording really does justice to the Airplane's monumental concert sound, the ones here come close enough. Essential listening.

Classic Records has just announced that their vinyl weight of 200 gram is now changing to 180 gram AND WILL NO LONGER HAVE THE COMPLETE PLASTIC WRAP ENCLOSING THE SEAL TITLE.
What this change did for Collectors of the finest vinyl pressings was establish a First Edition element to Classic Records Audiophile pressings. All Classic Records titles that were only produced in 200 Gram pressings are now Out of Print and Very Limited Edition Collector's First Edition Pressings.
These First Editions have become some of the rarest pressings in the Audiophile Collector's Market. Just try to find them at any Audiophile Retailer after the next few months. You might still find some limited inventory of M-F-S-L or DCC pressings and these 200 gram Classic Records titles will now become that rare in the collectors market. They are simply gone from the market and Mymusicfix has seen some these First Editions sell for over $300.
The Healer was oddly a major mainstream breakthrough for John Lee Hooker. The album was one of the first to feature a wide array of guest stars, including Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, Johnnie Johnson and Los Lobos and Carlos Santana. The album immediately captured widespread media attention because of all the superstar musicians involved in its production and has to date been John Lee's most successful release. Recorded in analog and mixed to quarter-inch 15ips analog tape, the sound is better than almost any other Hooker recording. Transferred from the original quarter-inch analog tapes by Bernie Grundman using Classic's "all-tube" cutting system, this version has a warmth and comfort this record has never had. If you're a John Lee Hooker fan, then this is a must! Great sound and classic Hooker guitar and vocal performances.

This was Santana’s debut LP and was a powerful and original masterpiece. When Santana arrived on the San Francisco scene in 1968, the Grateful Dead’s freeform antics were already legendary.
But, Santana was a jam band of another order fueled by Latin rhythms, blues, bee bop, and straight ahead rock. Having set the audience at the 1969 Woodstock Festival on its collective ear, the band did the same for the nation with its self-titled debut released later than summer.
Songs such as Evil Ways - Jingo and Soul Sacrifice contain extraordinary ensemble playing powered by congas and timbales and topped by the gripping human cry of Carlos Santana’s guitar. A rock classic cover to cover!!

CARAVANERA- Japanese limited edition pressing has been remastered and comes packaged in a miniature LP sleeve. Though there were hints of jazz fusion on Santana's first three albums, 1972's Caravanserai introduced a dramatic shift in the band's sound, away from essentially pop-based music to a more harmonically complex jazz/rock hybrid. In addition, the record marked a splintering of the original Santana lineup (soon to splinter further still with the departure of organist Gregg Rolie and guitarist Neal Schon, who then formed Journey). Carlos Santana and crew here turn in an exquisitely moody disc of mostly instrumental jamming with a brooding intensity akin to Miles Davis's classic Bitches Brew, underscored by the San Francisco-based ensemble's trademark propulsive rhythms

Se A Cabo, El Nicoya, and the memorable Oye Como Va gives us the quota of Latin Rock. The album’s star is the beautifully exotic Samba Pa Ti which features a superb guitar solo that oozes the sexuality blatantly depicted by the Mati cover.
