This is a dual layered gold CD in SACD,but sounds fabulous on two channel as well.
Contains 11 selections of some of Bob James best work from the 70s and 80s and these selections were remastered on the Sony DSD system with Steve Hoffman handling the project.
Liner notes written by Bob James himself detailing the selections used for this disc. This is an often overlooked album in the Bob James catalog and that is a pity. This is part of the Audio Fidelity line of audiophile discs. Released in 2003 it remains one sought after discs, by those in the loop.
Generally compliation discs for the most part are just ho-hum. This is a decided difference, not to be missed. It is just stellar. A must have for the fan of Bob James, the sonics on this disc are to die for. A must have if there ever was one, this is it.

Amazing. Thirty years after the venerable tenor saxophonist rose to stardom in Fletcher Henderson's big band, Coleman Hawkins revitalized his career with The Hawk Flies High. This Riverside date from March 1957 reasserted Hawkins' stature as a true and enduring jazz icon. Personally selecting his own ensemble, including trombonist J.J. Johnson, trumpeter Idrees Sulieman, pianist Hank Jones, guitarist Barry Galbraith, bassist Oscar Pettiford and drummer Jo Jones. The group swings and bops their way through six great tunes, including the lengthy "Juicy Fruit," Gigi Gryce's "Blue Lights" and Hawkins' own soul-stirring original entitled "Sancticity."

Dave Alvin has become one of America's great unsung songwriting heroes. His unflinching portraits of modern romance-on-the rocks set the Blasters apart from their roots rocking peers in the early 1980s. In the 1990s, his solo work moved closer to contemporary folk, meaning that the same guys who once tried to steal his guitar licks are now trying to copy his lyric lines.
They'll find plenty to plunder here, from the outstanding "Abilene" to "The Way You Say Good-Bye." Occasionally, as on "New Highway," Alvin starts to repeat himself, but he does it with such authority, with such a world-weary sigh, that it hardly matters. Steel guitar whiz and longtime Alvin compadre Greg Leisz offers tasteful, mostly acoustic production throughout.
