This record swings and the playing is obviously from a more romantic Miles trying to find his way. The authentic "deep groove" non-groove guard pressing is an authentic top on jacket that will fool even the best collectors. In order not to land once again in the pseudo-psychedelic outback with distorted electronic sound and wah-wah effects, the two legendary artists Muddy Waters and Otis Spann were joined by the three musicians who made up the Butterfield Blues Band & MIKE BLOOMFIELD. With this artistic core of fathers and sons and a few choice side musicians, the resulting blues recording rolled along without a hitch. A whole set of pieces were set down, enough to fill an LP, and a 30-minute live session adds further luster to the excellent studio recordings. The dubious credits don't matter much though. This is precious music and, without a doubt, one of Cole's best records. Nirvana probably hired to produce with the hopes of creating their own , or at least shoring up their indie cred after becoming a pop phenomenon with a glossy punk record, of course, turned out to be their last record, and it's hard not to hear it as 's suicide note, since stark, uncompromising sound provides the perfect setting for 's bleak, even nihilistic, lyrics. Even if the album wasn't a literal suicide note, it was certainly a conscious attempt to shed their audience - an attempt that worked, by the way, since the record had lost its momentum when Kurt Cobain died in the spring of 1994. Even though the band tempered some of 's extreme tactics in a remix, the record remains a deliberately alienating experience, front-loaded with many of its strongest songs, then descending into a series of brief, dissonant squalls before concluding with All Apologies, which only gets sadder with each passing year. Throughout it all, Kurt Cobain's songwriting is typically haunting, and its best moments rank among his finest work, but the over-amped dynamicism of the recording seems like a way to camouflage his dispiritedness - as does the fact that he consigned such great songs as Verse Chorus Verse and I Hate Myself and Want to Die to compilations, when they would have fit, even illuminated the themes of suicide. Even without those songs, remains a shattering listen, whether it's viewed as Cobain's farewell letter or self-styled audience alienation. Within a year, this company would be issuing records on its "Sittin' In With" Label. These 1st releases were skillfully produced, & featured the music that he knew best, jazz. Fortunately for the blues world, Shad had become close friends with Joe Bilhari, of Modern Records, a leading blues and R&B label. Joe Bihari was one of the foremost blues producers in the world, and together they traveled through the south, where Modern was selling thousands of records. This was a learning experience for Shad, and he returned to New York and prepared to record some of the local blues artists, including Brownie Mcghee and Wilbert "Big Chief" Ellis. These first efforts were done with the same perfection as the jazz releases. Joe Bihari suggested a trip to the south, where he could record local talent in Southern recording studios or radio stations. Shad decides to make the trip, but rather than go into studios, which were often poorly equipped or very expensive, he purchased a portable Magnecord tape recorder for recordingin the field. By early 1950, the company was turning out hits by southern artists that are apart of this collection. Fortunately, the tapes were preserved and are now being presented to a new generation of blues enthusiasts. BACK STABBERS is the album that put both producing/songwriting team Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff's Philadelphia International Label and journeyman trio the O'Jays on the map as major forces in 70's Soul. This album was recorded in 1972 for Columbia Records at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
