    "Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, Equinox - 180 Gram"

180 Gram Limited Edition Analog Virgin Vinyl LP. Pressed by A&M Records and incluldes John Pisano on guitar! Sergio Mendes and his Brasil '66 are a small troupe producing a very Mod Latin Jazz sound, an expert and tasteful blending of cool vocalizing and tempos. Sergio Mendes, who created the sound, guides the proceedings from his well-trained piano. Lani Hall and Janis Hansen handle the close knit, soaring, distinctive vocal harmonies. Jose Soares is the Latin percussionist who along with Bob Mathews on bass join Mendes in vocal collaboration. Joao Palma is on drums and the fine supporting guitar belongs to John Pisano. This second album of Brasil 66 on A & M is probably the best they did. Despite its extreme brevity (10 songs in 25 minutes), the quality more than compensates. The songs, some in English and some in Portuguese, are almost impossibly catchy; the musical arrangements wonderful, and vocal blending and phrasing of the group impeccable. Despite the Brazilian sound of the entire album, this album personafies the 60s beat. Brasil 66 was immensely popular in the 60's and early 70s - this album will show you why. Tracks include: Constant Rain (Chove Chuva) - Cinnamon and Clove - Watch What Happens - For Me - Bim Bom - Night and Day - Triste - Gente - Wave - So Dancfo Samba (Jazz 'n' Samba)

The whole album speaks volumes about the time period in which it was created but at the same time, has retained it's freshness and vitality. "Shelly Manne, Sounds Unheard Of - 180 Gram - CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK"

SHELLY MANNE - SOUNDS UNHEARD OF - 180 Gram Factory Sealed Audiophile pressed LP. In 1962, Contemporary Records set out to create the ultimate stereophonic listening experience. Widely acclaimed for both the sonic quality of its recordings and its classic and adventuresome jazz repertoire, Lester Koenig decided to meld these two elements into an album that would test the mettle of any stereo system, while providing listeners with entertaining and unusual treatments of familiar repertoire. Shelly Manne, who was a mainstay of Contemporary's artist roster, and who was acutely aware of the subtleties of sound recording, was the obvious protagonist for such a project. Shelly's arrangements, in which he plays a vast array of exotic and seldom heard percussion instruments (and other objects) in duet with Jack Marshall's nylon string acoustic guitar, were conceived so as to demonstrate to the fullest the capabilities of Contemporary's renowned recording system. "Sly & The Family Stone, Greatest Hits - 180 Gram"

SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE - GREATEST HITS - 180 Gram OUT OF PRINT RARE Limited Edition classic LP with the expensive Gate-Fold Cover is a high-definition Virgin Heavy Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity . The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and your ears. LAST COPY FOREVER Collectors Note: This limited edition heavy vinyl pressing is now out of print & gone from the last distributor that had any of these pressing left within their inventory. This means that this specific title is "Here Today but For Sure Gone Tomorrow Forever". So Don't Miss Out on BEING ONE OF THE LAST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD TO add this masterpiece to your collection. Sly and the Family Stone, led by the enigmatic Sylvester Stewart (aka Sly Stone), were a pioneering funk band in the 60s and 70s who merged rock with funk, had a sexually and racially integrated line-up, and who famously moved from optimistic party anthems and hippy idealism to drug-induced frustration and paranoia. Sly and the Family Stone were formed in 1966 when Sly Stone merged his struggling band with the struggling band of his brother Freddie, and added bassist Larry Graham. A debut album received good reviews but didn't sell well, so they were reluctantly persuaded to record an overtly commercial single to boost their reputation. Sly came up with the goods in January 1968 with the raucous party anthem "Dance to the Music", which got to No.8 in the pop charts and influenced the sound of soul music for the next several years. There are a few interesting innovations in just this one song: it is performed by a racially integrated group and with instrumental participation by women, it included rock guitar parts in a funk song, and there are four lead singers who take turns to sing. This was followed in 1969 by their first classic album, Stand!, which included hit singles "Everyday People/Sing a Simple Song" and "I Want to Take You Higher". It eventually sold over three million copies and was followed by a famous Woodstock appearance, and another hit single: "Hot Fun in the Summertime". But internal differences were arising and illicit drug use was increasing at this time, so in the following two years only one single was released. "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" (December 69) is important for two reasons: it prominently featured Larry Graham's new slap-bass method that would become a standard in funk; and it signified the beginning of Sly and the Family Stone's darker period, as they expressed their frustration that the hippy ideals they once offered, of peace and love for all mankind, weren't working. For much of 70/71, Sly Stone sank deeper into a drug habit and retreated from recording duties. A comeback single, "Family Affair", reached No.1 in late 1971, before the November release of their most acclaimed work: There's a Riot Goin' On. An album of melancholy and frustration, it announced the passing of 60s idealism and the new reality of widespread socio-economic problems. Despite the dark themes, it reached No.1 and is regarded as one of the greatest albums of the decade. Subsequent albums, such as Fresh (1973) and Small Talk (1974), Fresh is now considered as an important album in the development of funk, while their work overall is regarded as highly influential for artists such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Eventually the band fizzled out as members became increasingly frustrated with Sly's erratic and unreliable behaviour, and bookings for live shows dried up. Officially splitting in 1975, some of the key members have since reformed and were touring Europe with Sly in 2007. As a title would lead you to believe, these are the GREATEST HITS from a group that had a fair share of hits from the late sixties, early seventies from one of Rock N Rolls Top 50 Rated Rock n Roll acts of All-Time. Too Pop savvy to be merely a Funk Band and too darn Funky to be just a Rock Band, Sly and his multi-cultural crew (Family Stone) made intelligent party music that crossed boundaries and became AM/Radio staples. Included in this collection are smash hits like - Dance To The Music - Sing A Simple Song - M'Lady - Thank You - I Want To Take You Higher - Everybody Is A Star - Stand - You Can Make It If You Try - Everyday People and - Hot Fun In The Summertime. What more can you ask, just get down and P-A-R-T-Y to this Audiophile Masterpiece of Vinyl. "Solomon Burke, Don't Give Up On Me (2 LPs, 180 Gram White Vinyl)"

180 Gram Limited Edition Analog Virgin Vinyl. Of all the great male '60s soul singers--a short list that includes Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and James Brown--only Solomon Burke still actively records. More amazing, he's produced his best full-length album with Don't Give Up on Me. It's easy to give some credit to the album's star songwriters, who include Burke fans Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Brian Wilson, and Bob Dylan. But really it's the quality of the songs and Burke himself, one of the most versatile and charismatic singers around, that make this album so special. The 11 songs range from the lazy, seductive plea of the title track and the gravelly gospel of "Diamond in Your Mind" to the country-soul of "Other Side of the Coin" and the civil-rights-era urgency of "None of Us Are Free." Joe Henry's production is suitably subdued, and the instrumentation--generally guitar, bass, drums, organ, and piano--is sympathetic throughout. And if you doubt that Burke is the real star in a room crowded with those folks, consider this: the two slightest tracks here were written by Wilson and Costello, while one of the best, the album-closing "Sit This One Out," was written by someone named Pick Purnell. A great album not fixed in the past or fully of this decade, Don't Give Up is a crowning achievement of an R&B pioneer who has returned to reclaim his self-bestowed title from the '60s: "The King of Rock and Soul." It is easy to give credit to the album's star songwriters, who include Burke fans Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Brian Wilson, and Bob Dylan. But really it's the quality of the songs and Burke himself, one of the most versatile and charismatic singers around, that make this album so special.

"Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd, Jazz Samba - 180 Gram"

180 Gram Limited Edition Analog Virgin Vinyl. The Stan Getz LPs Jazz Samba for small ensemble and the classic Focus for big band were surprisingly big sellers so it is no wonder that Verve producer Creed Taylor, himself an arranger and fan of light, airy strings, put the two components together. This is the first true bossa nova album by jazz artists - the one that began the wave. The name Stan Getz can easily be substituted for bossa nova whenever the music is being discussed in jazz circles. But would audiences have ever known of bossa nova if not for Charlie Byrd? Byrd played records he'd gotten in Brazil for Getz; a session was arranged, and the results - the album hit No. 1 on the charts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1.
