"Willie Dixon, I Am The Blues - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"WILLIE DIXON - I AM THE BLUES - Factory Sealed Well, Willie Dixon is definitely one of the most influential blues musicians ever; he is right up there with Robert Johnson and T-Bone Walker. Willie had written many tunes for Muddy Waters and others, and I AM THE BLUES is Dixon singing his own songs. He sings them damned well, and the blues are played perfectly. This is an awesome album to get into the blues, and it still holds true today. Standouts are "Back Door Man", "The Seventh Son", and "The Same Thing". . Songs like "I can't quit you, Baby" tug at the roots of blues tradition. Yet he wasn't tradition because he was such an originator; this album epitomized that fact. From Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton, to the Rolling Stones, seems like everyone took something from Dixon. An essential entry for any so called blues-lovers collection. Highly recommended for blues fans SKU Number: DOLP COLUM9987 |

"Wynton Kelly, Kelly Blue"WYNTON KELLY - KELLY BLUE - FACTORY SEALED LP Wynton Kelly's recording career started in the late 1940s with Hal Singer, Babs Gonzales and Eddie Vinson. He went on to record with Dinah Washington, Lester Young, Dizzy Gillespie, J.J. Johnson, Billie Holiday, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey and many other stars. Respected by his peers as a pianist of remarkable creativity and feeling, his own stardom was on hold until 1959, when he got a call from Miles Davis and joined one of the most important small bands in jazz. The same year, Kelly recorded Kelly Blue for Riverside. The album's critical notices and popularity combined with his Davis exposure to bring Kelly general recognition. Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, his section mates from Davis' group, round out the rhythm section. Nat Adderley, Benny Golson and Bobby Jaspar join for two memorable tracks. Throughout, Kelly cultivates the blues atmosphere that makes the collection one of his finest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Kelly Blue 2. Softly 3. As in a Morning Sunrise 4. On Green Dolphin Street 5. Willow Weep for Me 6. Keep It Moving (take 4) 7. Old Clothes SKU Number: * |

"Yes, Big Generator"YES BIG GENERATOR. This LP is your last chance to own the original pressing with all inserts included. Out of Print FACTORY SEALED Analog LP with small cutout hole on jacket but contains all the original LP picture sleeve and inserts. Big Generator might be the most underrated album in the Yes catalogue. It's by far their best album featuring Trevor Rabin. Tensions in the band were running high while recording this, and it shows through in the album's disparate musical styles. I will concede that it seems somewhat overproduced at first, but the end result is so great that it's not really an issue. "Rhythm of Love," one of the better Yes pop songs, kicks things off. It's kind of like a marriage of Eddie Van Halen's guitar and The Beach Boys' harmonies, which seems odd, but it works very well. "Love Will Find a Way" is one of the most notorious Yes songs for its line, "I eat at Chez Nous," and yeah, that does kind of tarnish the song. But it's inoffensive. The title track recalls "Owner of a Lonely Heart" a bit too much, but I still like it. "Final Eyes" is an emotional power ballad featuring some of Jon Anderson's best vocals ever. The rocker "Almost Like Love" and the gentle "Holy Lamb" are enjoyable, but neither are really noteworthy. The album's best song, and one of the best songs Yes have ever done, is "I'm Running." It's some of the most exciting seven-and-a-half minutes ever in rock music. The song moves through many moods, from light Latin to dark and heavy, and then in the climax, both. And the vocals. "I'm Running" has the greatest vocals of any Yes song, bar none. The harmonies in its last minute are awe-inspiring; I've never heard anything like it. The airy, dreamlike "Shoot High Aim Low" is Big Generator's second highlight. It's slower and simpler than "I'm Running" but still packs a punch. The interwoven and seemingly unrelated vocals of Trevor Rabin and Jon Anderson are great, as are Rabin's guitar solos (one acoustic, one electric). Big Generator is a great combination of some sleek pop tunes and a couple of weighty, intelligent masterpieces. No rock fan should be without it. Track Listings 1. Rhythm of Love 2. Big Generator 3. Shoot High Aim Low 4. Almost Like Love 5. Love Will Find a Way 6. Final Eyes 7. I'm Running 8. Holy Lamb (Song for Harmonic Convergence) SKU Number: * |

"Young Holt Trio, Wack Wack"Classic Analog LP Pressing. This was the trio's debut 1967 release. When Eldee Young and Red Holt split from Ramsey Lewis, they wanted to capitalize on the association, thus pianist Don Walker's Lewis, whose piano figures so heavily in their sound was not titled in the band name. However, the split resulted in one hell of an amazing record, and they do some great covers too, including Lennon & McCartney's "Yesterday" which is given a bit more upbeat treatment than the original with Red Holt splashing the cymbals feverishly. Bobby Hebb's classic "Sunny" is also goosed with some righteous bopping. The Mamas & the Papas' classic "Monday Monday" by John Phillips is given a loose treatment with Walker's piano fleshing the melody. The title tune sounds a bit like Booker T & the MGs, but is a lot of fun with the guys shouting out "Wack Wack" as the piano bangs the note. The classic "Red Sails in the Sunset" is given an epic treatment. This set sounds remarkably fresh 36 years after it was recorded. This is one that jazz and rock fans will want to seek out! Enjoy! "Zoot Sims & Harry Sweets Edison, Just Friends"ZOOT SIMS & HARRY SWEETS EDISON - JUST FRIENDS FACTORY SEALED LP While Zoot & Sweets did record together during their "peak" years in the late 1950's, to my knowledge they never cut an LP where they were the two prime movers as Edison did with Ben Webster (see Ben and Sweets). At least not until this Pablo Session from 1978. But it was worth the wait. This ALBUM features Edison and Sims backed by only a rhythm section and trading riffs over 8 charts and 42 minutes of music. There's still plenty of creativity and swinging to go around. On a few tunes Roger Kellaway opts for an electric piano which gives it "that 70's feeling" but otherwise it's a solid collection of standards, blues and ballads. Recommended if you like the small group swing genre. Track Listings 1. Nature Boy 2. How Deep Is the Ocean? 3. My Heart Belongs to Daddy 4. I Understand 5. Just Friends 6. Blue Skies 7. The year is 1964, a watershed year for jazz, and Art Blakey's group made classic contributions to help make it memorable "Kyoto," one of three albums the Messengers made for the Riverside label, was actually recorded on February 20, 1964. The compositions feature impeccable frontline arrangements and solos by Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and Curtis Fuller, and stellar rhythmic support by Cedar Walton, Reggie Workman and the Art-ist himself. In all, "Kyoto" is a welcome addition to those rounding out their Blakey collections. Track Listings 1. High Priest 2. Never Never Land 3. Wellington's Blues 4. Nihon Bashi 5. Kyoto SKU Number: * |

Charles Lloyd, Discovery"CHARLES LLOYD DISCOVERY - OUT OF PRINT & TREMENDOUSLY RARE IN THE COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESSING. Charles Lloyd's recorded debut as a leader was made while he was a member of the Cannonball Adderley Sextet. Doubling on tenor and flute, Lloyd teamed up with pianist Don Friedman, either Eddie Khan or Richard Davis on bass, and Roy Haynes or J.C. Moses on drums. This out-of-print LP has among its highlights "Little Piece" (dedicated to Booker Little), "Days of Wine and Roses," "Sweet Georgia Bright," and the initial full-length version of "Forest Flower." Lloyd's Coltrane-inspired sound was already in place, and his flute playing was becoming distinctive. The music is essentially melodic but advanced hard bop, a strong start to an important career. 1. The Ramones, End Of The Century - Colored Vinyl"END OF THE CENTURY - This is my generation's Exile on Main St., totally misunderstood by idiot critics (and seemingly, the Ramones themselves. Only Joey seemed to dig it) Here, the Ramones stake their claim to the whole of American Rock 'n Roll, not just parochial NYC punk, and Phil Spector (who legitimately loved this band) justifies his own sorry existence by giving them the gift of the biggest wall of sound he ever came up with. After this album, Johnny stole Joey's girlfriend and the magic was gone, they started claiming individual song credits, they brought in ringers to play guitar solos on the albums, DeeDee started shooting up again, Joey started boozing and not caring, and the band went down the toilet. But this record just sounds better and better with each passing year. (Except "Chinese Rocks" -- interesting to hear the boys jump from household solvents to hard drugs, but Johnny Thunders friggin' OWNS this song; Joey just ain't a convincing junkie. Still, the tune's darkness adds to E of the C's stylistic diversity). Did I say my generation's Exile on Main St? It's also my generations White Album and London Calling. Track Listings 1. The Ramones, Rocket To Russia - Colored Vinyl"ROCKET TO RUSSIA - Among Creem magazine's predictions for 1977 was the claim that the Ramones would make three No. 1 singles but that none would chart. Well, "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" and "Do You Wanna Dance" did make the 80s on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Rockaway Beach" went all the way to No. 66, but the point basically stands: Two-minute blasts of power chords, speedy tempos, and praise of fun in the sun weren't where it was at for radio in the year JOURNEY hired STEVE PERRY. Rocket to Russia, the home of those semi-hits, is still many fans' favorite Ramones long-player, thanks not only to those near misses but also to the fervor of "Cretin Hop," the scene celebration of "Ramona," and the anthemic pout of "I Don't Care." "Jimi Hendrix, Tribute - In From The Storm - Vinyl Picture Disc"JIMI HENDRIX - TRIBUTE - IN FROM THE STORM - NEW/Never Played - On Limited FIRST Edition OUT OF PRINT Vinyl PICTURE DISC. THESE PICTURE DISCS COME WITH A PLASTIC PROTECTIVE COVER BUT DOESN'T HAVE A JACKET. There is no reason why this album should be below 5 stars. Before Jimi Hendrix perished, he said that his dream was to be able to see other cats jamming to his music and his goal in the seventies was to be a formal student of music theory and to jam with a live orchestra. When I got this album I got chills on my spine because of the musical impact and of what I read in past Hendrix interviews. Miles Davis was stunned by the young guitarist's capabilities. Gil Evans wanted to start a project with Jimi Hendrix. Both Jazz inovator and Conducter were left influenced and inspired. This album, In From The Storm is proof of how professional musicians of all genres became influenced and passionate of Jimi Hendrix's music. To conclude, this album is great and to hear Santana, Sting, John Mclaughlin, Stanley Clarke and the London PhilHormononic Ochestra was just awesome. 1. AND THE GODS MADE LOVE - TONY WILLIAMS 2.
