"Coleman Hawkins, Night Hawk - 140 Gram LP"COLEMAN HAWKINS NIGHT HAWK Factory Sealed - 140 Gram with sticker - OUT OF PRINT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coleman Hawkins is frequently identified as the father of the tenor saxophone. Technically, of course, that honor goes to Adolphe Sax, but Hawkins unquestionably gave rebirth to an instrument that had for decades been valuable primarily as a novelty device. Because of his illuminating artistry, over the decades he became the forebear of hundreds of tenor stylists. In this collaboration with Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Hawkins encounters one of his most illustrious spiritual descendants. With a perfect rhythm section headed by pianist Tommy Flanagan, the two tenor men prove that when great artists meet on the common ground of the jazz tradition, there is never a generation gap. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. "Coleman Hawkins, The Hawk Flies High"COLEMAN HAWKINS - THE HAWK FLIES HIGH FACTORY SEALED LP Hawkins literally inventeed jazz saxophone, starred in the first jazz big band, and played with unfailing strength and invention into the Sixties. When Riverside invited him to assemble his choice of an ideal small group, The Hawk picked an impressive cast that ran the gamut from modern (J. J. Johnson) through mainstream (Hank Jones) and on back to Swing (ex-Basie drummer Jo Jones) and created a powerful album that stands as a lasting part of his legacy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. "Count Basie,The Kansas City 3 Second Time Around"COUNT BASIE THE KANSAS CITY 3 - Second Time Around - OUT OF PRINT & TREMENDOUSLY RARE NOW. FACTORY SEALED LP Anyone who ever heard Count Basie launch his band into a blues with several choruses of effortless piano has lamented that there is far too little of Basie the solist among his recorded legacy. This shortage was rectified to a certain extent by the trio albums Basie made with Ray Bown and Louis Bellson in the Seventies, of which this is the sequel to the For The First Time (PACD-2310-712-2) set of the previous year. Once again, Basie's poetic introductions, precise calibrations of touch and coloration, and definitive swing create a joyouS program of four venerable standards and an equal number of new blues. Bellson is empathetic throughout and dances with his brushes on "Sandman," while Brown's robust tone and earth-moving walking lines bring out the best in Basie the soloist and accompanist. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track Listings 1. Sandman 2. If I could Be With You One Hour Tonight 3. Draw 4. On The Sunny Side of the Street 5. The One I Love Belongs To Somebody Else 6. Blues for Eric 7. I Surrender, Dear 8. "Creedence Clearwater Revival, Chronicle Volume One" CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL - CHRONICLE VOL1 - 20 HITS - RARE 2LP SET FACTORY SEALED LP CCR may not have been revolutionary--their style was by-the-numbers blues, country, and rockabilly. But damn, John Fogerty could pen a great tune without ever sounding crass or poppy. Although Chronicle Vol.1 will not cover everything they did, it is comprehensive enough for all but the most hardcore fans. Tracking down the original LPs is not an easy task these days, so it's good to have this single-disc retrospective of CCR's career on hand. These guys were sincere in what they did and although CCR had many popular singles over their five-year existence that enjoyed heavy airplay, they never really got the recognition they should have. John Fogerty and his band deserve to rank up there with the Rolling Stones and Beatles for crafting superb rock 'n' roll straight with no chaser. Fortunate Son, Up Around The Bend, Travelin' Band, Green River, Run Through The Jungle, and everything else are all timeless. However, if I had to name a favorite, it's probably their take on Heard It Through The Grapevine, which becomes a menacing and focused blues jam that goes for a solid 11 minutes without dragging. When you become a parent, buy two copies--one for yourself, and one to hand down to your kids. In this age of manufactured pop-punk and tepid nu-metal, parents should show their children how true rock 'n' roll is done. This is the perfect start to their library. Track Listings 1. Susie-Q 2. I Put a Spell on You 3. Proud Mary 4. Bad Moon Rising 5. Lodi 6. Green River 7. Commotion 8. Down on the Corner 9. Fortunate Son 10. Travelin' Band 11. Who'll Stop the Rain 12. Up Around the Bend 13. "Creedence Clearwater Revival, Chronicle Volume Two"CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL - CHRONICLE VOLUME Two - 20 HITS ON A RARE 2 LP SET. FACTORY SEALED LP Chronicle Volume 2: Twenty Great CCR Classics proves that Creedence Clearwater Revival was not just the great singles band as presented on Chronicle. The tracks "Born on the Bayou" and their sizzling cover of "The Midnight Special" are the only songs that still receive airplay on album-oriented rock stations and are among their best work. There are actually a lot of cover songs that work on varying degrees. While the R&B-flavored "Night Time Is The Right Time", the Southern sounds of "Cotton Fields", and the rollicking "My Baby Left Me" work very well, their versions of "Good Golly Miss Molly" and "Before You Accuse Me" are decent at best. When they stick to their originals, the results are very solid as exhibited on "Tombstone Shadow" and "It Came Out of the Sky." There's also a noticeable rockabilly sound here as shown on the Ricky Nelson cover "Hello Mary Lou" and "Don't Look Now." A pleasant surprise in this collection are the opening "Walk On The Water" and the scorching "Pagan Baby", songs which prove that CCR could have been a great jam band if they chose that route. Other solid tracks here include the rocker "Born to Move" and the melancholy ballad "Wrote a Song for Everyone.". While not containing as many top notch tracks as Chronicle (what greatest hits album does?), Chronicle Vol. 2: Twenty Great CCR Classics shows that the band was more than just those fantastic 3-minute singles that have found a home on classic rock and oldies radio. Track Listings 1. Walking on the Water 2. Suzie-Q, Pt. 2 3. Born on the Bayou 4. Good Golly Miss Molly 5. Tombstone Shadow 6. Wrote a Song for Everyone 7. Night Time Is the Right Time 8. "Crowded House, ST"After gradually assuming a front-and-center role in brother Tim's band Split Enz, native New Zealander and transplanted Australian Neil Finn moved firmly into a leadership position with Crowded House, a trio whose debut album appeared in 1986. Slightly more mainstream than his new-wavy Split Enz work, the record nonetheless evinced signs of darkness ("Don't Dream It's Over," "World Where You Live," "Hole in the River") among more chipper numbers such as "Something So Strong." Often gorgeous, Crowded House proved to be the group's biggest release in America, which didn't seem to have a radio home for them after the success of "Don't Dream" and "Something." "Cruisin', 1962"CRUISIN' 1962 - FACTORY SEALED ORIGINAL Out of Print LP - analog vinyl pressing . The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and ears. There have been so few vinyl LPs produced over the last 5 years that you should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Don't second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever. A History of Rock 'n' Roll Radio The word cruisin' doesn't appear in the dictionary, but it is a familiar word to millions of people who did it. The new seven-record series on Increase Records - CRUISIN' THE FITIES AND SIXTIES is a year by year re-creation of pop music radio during the years 1956 through 1967. Each album is not just a collection of the top pop music of a particular year, but a total re-creation by a top disc jocket (of that year) doing his original program over a major pop music station. featuring RUSS "WEIRD BEARD" KNIGHT - FROM KLIF - DALLAS TEXAS The French joined the nuclear club by e4xploding an A-Bomb in the Sahara - Francis Gary Powers and his U-2 Reconnaissance plane went down in the Soviet Union - Adolph Eichman ws captured in Argentina - Cuba began confiscating American-owned factories on the island - After spending 12 years on Death Row, Caryl Chessman was executed - the first sit-n was held in a Woolworth's in North Carolina and John F.
