"Grant Green, The Latin Bit (w/ Willie Bobo)"Probably the most well known tune on the release is "mambo inn", made famous by george shearing quintet a few years earlier. While Johnny Acea's piano playing is similar to shearing's, Green's excellent, and long, guitar solo gives the track its own uniqueness. Also included on the LP is a samba version of charlie parker's, "My little Suede Shoes". again, Green takes control of the song, with a few excellent and creative solos but, while Green's nimble and relaxed guitar playing give the LP a spark, it's the backing band that keeps it fresh. The Spaghetti Incident by GN'r is one of the most underrated albums ever. It starts with the hit Since I Don't Have You. Then comes New Rose, which was surprisingly good. Down on the Farm sounds a bit like it is sung by a british guy. Human Being follows, and it is one of my favorites. Raw Power is good, and Ain't it Fun is the second hit on the album. Buick Makane is above average, and then is Hair of the Dog, my personal favorite on the album (this was also a hit, but not included on the Greatest Hits. Attitude is basically just the band singing the word attitude over and over, but it sounds good. Black Leather is great, and You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory is basically the Duff lover's dream. Some may see this as a bad album to end their career with, but what song would fit better than one called I Don't Care About You? At first it just seems like ranting, but then evolves into something a little more refined. Kinda like the band. No other song fits the Guns like this. 1. Since I Don't Have You 2. New Rose 3. "Hank Mobley, The Turnaround!"HANK MOBLEY/THE TURNAROUND! (LP) The title tune from thie 1965 hard bop classic has become a sampling standard. Mobley and Freddie Hubbard team up on four tunes including "Straight Ahead" and "Pat 'N Chat" while Donald Byrd and Herbie Hancock appear on "The Good Life" and "East Of The Village". Tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley brought real consistency to his many Blue Note dates, as well as an individualistic style that blended an almost languid sound with rhythmically acute phrasing. Two sessions held two years apart contribute to this CD, and they demonstrate Mobley's ease in two quite different quintets. Four of the tracks come from a 1965 session that joins Mobley's mellow tenor with the crackling trumpet of Freddie Hubbard. "The Turnaround," a hard-bop boogaloo number in the style of Lee Morgan's "Sidewinder, has drummer Billy Higgins and pianist Barry Harris reprising their "Sidewinder" roles. But it's Mobley's unusually abbreviated, carefully matched phrases that make the strongest impression. "My Sin" is a fine vehicle for Mobley's ballad art, a fluidly romantic approach that's alert to the tune's every nuance, while "Straight Ahead" and the brisk "Pat 'n' Chat" contain enough turns to inspire fluidly twisting lines from Hubbard and Mobley. A 1963 session with trumpeter Donald Byrd, pianist Herbie Hancock, and drummer Philly Joe Jones contributes two tracks.
