Comes with sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging like an ORIGINAL LP. Actual miniaturized version of the 12" LP in 4" CD version. Formed in 1973, the British hard rock outfit Bad Company was a supergroup comprised of ex-King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell, former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, and singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke, both previous members of Free. Powered by Rodgers' muscular vocals and Ralphs' blues-based guitar work, Bad Company was the first group signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song vanity label. Bad Company's eponymous 1974 debut was an international hit, topping the U.S. album charts and scoring with the number one single "Can't Get Enough of Your Love." Straight Shooter, issued the following year, was another major success, notching the hit "Feel Like Makin' Love," while 1976's Run With the Pack was Bad Company's third consecutive million-selling record. After 1977's Burnin' Sky, Bad Company recorded 1979's Desolation Angels, which embellished the group's sound with synthesizers and strings; a three-year hiatus followed before the release of Rough Diamonds, the group's final LP in its original incarnation. By the mid-'70s, even Dylan's most ardent supporters began taking his artistic decline for granted. Albums like NEW MORNING and PLANET WAVES were fine works, but lacked the visionary spark of his seminal '60s recordings. At 34 he was already being written off as a has-been. That presumption is what made BLOOD ON THE TRACKS such a glorious sucker-punch of a record. One of Dylan's most mournful efforts, this album, which easily ranks among his best, is full of stories about lost love and the struggle for peace of mind. With a simple, country-flavored backing somewhat akin to NASHVILLE SKYLINE, he recounts shattered love affairs in heart-breaking detail on songs like "Simple Twist Of Fate" and "If You See Her Say Hello." On the vengeful "Idiot Wind" he rails mercilessly against the ignorant and self-obsessed a la "Like A Rolling Stone." The difference here, and the major breakthrough for Dylan, is that by the end of the song, he's lumping himself in with those he excoriates so vehemently. Comes with sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging like an ORIGINAL LP. Actual miniaturized version of the 12" LP in 4" CD version. ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME! Japanese Limited Edition Issue of the Album Classic in a Deluxe, Miniaturized LP Sleeve Replica of the Original Vinyl Album Artwork Beyond the tragedy, the history, the raging guitars and the killer songs, ultimately, Lynyrd Skynyrd is about an indomitable will. About survival of spirit; unbowed, uniquely American, stubbornly resolute. With their first set of new studio material since 2003's Vicious Cycle, legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd returns with God & Guns, on Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. Recorded in Nashville in 2008-2009, the project was interrupted--but, tellingly, not ended--by the deaths of founding member/keyboardist Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans earlier of that year. Driven by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, Lynyrd Skynyrd have recorded an album ("under duress, as usual," according to Van Zant) that very much lives up to the legacy begun some 35 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida, and halted for a decade by the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, including Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. Since then, the band tragically lost Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Huey Thomasson, yet they rock on. With the passing of Powell and Evans, "a lot of people probably expected us to say enough is enough," admits Medlocke. But that would not be the way of this Rock & Roll Hall of Fame powerhouse. With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations, and God & Guns is a fitting addition to the canon. The Skynyrd Nation awaits. "We wanted to show the people that not only are we doing the old material, keeping the music going, but we still have some new tricks up our sleeves, too," says founding guitarist Gary Rossington. Returning to the studio after the death of Powell, whose keyboards can be heard on more than half the songs on God & Guns, was "very difficult, I ain't gonna lie to you," says Van Zant. "But we got through it, as Lynyrd Skynyrd seems to always do. Music's a great healer. These songs needed to be out there, this record needed to be made. Gary, Rickey and myself just said 'let's go for it, let's get this thing done.'" Unfortunately, coping with loss is familiar to this band. "We just kind of fell back in," says Rossington. "We've been doing this a long time, so you just kind of do what you do. As you get older, you get a little more used to it. You know it's coming, and it's coming to you, too. I just thank God for every day and all the time I had with the guys that aren't with us anymore." The crying is over and now it's time to rock. "We've had some really bad moments this year already, and I'm glad we're able to pick ourselves up by our boot straps and just continue to play," says Medlocke. "For us to weather through this makes this record even more special. I'm sure Billy and Ean are looking down upon us with big smiles." With noted rock producer Bob Marlette, input from guitarist John 5, and a wealth of material written by the band and a cadre of elite Skynyrd-minded songwriters, a remarkable album emerged. "We never really worked with producers that well, we kind of always wanted to do it our way," admits Rossington. "But Bob Marlette came on and he's such a great guy; he figured out how to talk to us musically, and we became friends instantly. He had a lot of fresh ideas and ways to do things, and also wanted to capture the old sounds, too." Of John 5, Rossington adds, "he's probably one of the best guitar players I've ever played with, and I've played with a lot of great ones. He just lives with a guitar on him, and he knows that neck like nobody I've ever seen." With a backbone of Southern rock and country, passionate Van Zant vocals, and trademark layered guitars, God & Guns manages to maintain the iconic Skynyrd punch while sounding completely contemporary. Sure to attract attention in these politically divided times is the title track, which harbors a sense of menace and unwillingness to back down that hearkens back to Skynyrd's earliest days. The band knows the song, and others like "That Ain't My America," will have their critics, but Medlocke says listeners should get beyond the title. "It's not just the words 'God and guns.' you gotta look past that and look at what this country was founded on: freedom," Medlocke says. "Everybody should be able to make their own decisions and not be led around by a nose ring and told what to do and when to do it." And if some critics don't like it, "that's called freedom of choice," says Medlocke, who carries his Native American heritage with pride. "I'm sure some critics will look at it, God & Guns, the rednecks are back.' Well, the guys in this band aren't rednecks, Rickey Medlocke's the only damn redneck in this band 'cause I got red skin." The title track, along with the unmistakable Skynyrd bite of the first single "Still Unbroken," form thematic songs for an album laden with attitude, heart and purpose. "Skynyrd's about tradition," says Medlocke. "We are guys that don't go around preaching about our own personal or political beliefs, although I'm sure you could probably guess mine. In this record is personal tragedy, personal relationships and being on the road, all under that umbrella of real life. That's what we think, that's what we believe, and we stand next to that title, God & Guns." To portray Skynyrd as a bunch of "gun nuts" would be incorrect, according to Van Zant. "I'm kind of like Ronnie, 'handguns are made for killing,' and I've never seen anybody shoot a deer with a .38," he says. "I do own a bunch of rifles, I live out in the swamp, and you've got to protect yourself." Skynyrd is a band, after all, that has never shied away from standing up and speaking for a segment of the population whose voices are seldom heard. "Everybody's so scared to say stuff these days, that's not what I'm about," says Van Zant. "We live in America, we can speak our minds. These are our values. That doesn't mean we're always right in everybody's mind. Hopefully, we don't offend a bunch of people. And if we do, well, get a record deal, man, and make your own songs." This is a band well aware of the responsibility that comes with putting the name 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' on anything, be it an album or a concert. "We feel like we have to keep the standards high," says Rossington. "I wouldn't put this record out, I'd fight not to, if I didn't think it was good." And so Skynyrd stands, "still unbroken," in 2009. "People may say, 'they need the money,' well I don't think any of us need the money," Van Zant says. "It's just that we love the music, it's bigger than the money, it's not even about that any more. We have to make a living, sure, but it's about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and what it stands for, what the fans are all about. There's nothing like getting out there playing a great show with Skynyrd and seeing people love this music." Adds Rossington, "We're still standing, still keeping the music going. PRONOUNCED' LEH-NERD-SKIN-NERD - Fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd are in for a treat with this mini-lp replica sleeve version (mlps) of their brilliant debut and their best ever album of their short-lived first line-up career. Prior to their tragic plane crash which decimated the band, they were at the height of they musical prowess here and on their second album although I feel that this, their debut, is still the best one. The tracks are all consistently good and they have a good flow as all classic albums should. No apparent fillers on this baby which should be essential listening for all classic rock fans. The cardboard sleeve gatefold design is very well done and very faithfully resembles the original vinyl design. The quality of the cardboard used is very good and the assembly overall is very well done. Included is an insert that has all the lyrics in both English and Japanese too. 1. I Ain't the One 2. Tuesday's Gone 3. Gimme Three Steps 4. Simple Man 5. Things Goin' On 6. Mississippi Kid 7. Poison Whiskey 8. Free Bird 9. Mr. Banker (Demo) 10. Down South Jukin' (Demo) 11. Tuesday's Gone (Demo) 12. Gimme Three Steps (Demo) 13. Free Bird (Demo) The first 3 tracks are classic rock classics while track 4 sounds a lot like the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" but not enough for a lawsuit. "Mississippi Kid" is a great study of good old time country blues and excellent acoustic slide guitar playing. The whole album makes for a thoroughly enjoyable listen and you can actually hear the fun each member of the band is having playing together which reminds me a lot of the early Allman Brother's Band as well.

Additional personnel: Paul Prestopino (banjo). Recorded at The Warehouse, Waltham, Massachusetts and The Record Plant, New York. Japanese edition features mini LP-style packaging. One of the reasons why Aerosmith, after a number of creatively lean years, are still given legendary credence and an eager ear with each new release, Rocks encapsulated the very essence of rock 'n' roll. They may have been the target of detractors who still pinned them as nothing more than a poor man's Rolling Stones, but Rocks pioneered a strength and swagger and real depth that remains very nearly unsurpassed. From the slowly escalating 'Back In The Saddle' to the dying strains of 'Home Tonight', this album held the full spirit and soul of Aerosmith in both hands. Editorial reviews 4 stars out of 5 - ...The one that made them the daddies honking, humping American rock. Contains great, self-congratulatory opener 'Back In The Saddle'... JUST PUSH PLAY was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Jaded" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and for Best Rock Song. This Japanese reissue contains two bonus tracks. Taking the production helm for the first time in the band's nearly 30-year career, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry have come up with a lucky 13th album that fuses the band's rock & roll punch with more contemporary nuances. The chugging title track is a sassy shuffle featuring Tyler scatting over stuttering beats, meaty guitar riffs and snatches of "Walk This Way" while the clattering "Outta Your Head" features a perfect marriage of loops, scratching, and Perry's chunky chords. Elsewhere, the leadoff single, "Jaded," lays it on heavy with sitar-sounding wah-wah guitar and string arrangements that toughen the song's impact. Periodically the band's Beatles influence pops up, from Tyler's "Magical Mystery Tour"-flavored phrasing and background harmonies on the swaggering "Trip Hoppin'" and the mid-tempo "Luv Lies," to the George Martin-influenced trumpet fanfare sprinkled throughout the hard hitting "Under My Skin." Despite three decades of hard living, Aerosmith's train keeps a rollin' on. Editorial reviews ...Joe Perry's low-slung rifferama and Steven Tyler's saucy squawk still envince a vitality that puts their golf peers to shame... Mojo (05/01/2001) 3 stars out of 5 - ...This 'new [stuff]' has more than a few echoes of the past....the sound of these songs is often great... Q (05/01/2001) ...Anyone who enjoys Aerosmith's signature sound [will] find pleasure in JUST PUSH PLAY's polished, mostly ungimmicky grooves... - Rating: B Entertainment Weekly (03/16/2001) 3.5 stars out of 5 - ...A work of largely native snazz....the least self-consciously commercial record [they've] made since their 80s return....When JUST PUSH PLAY shakes and snorts, it does so with an honest cheer... NINE LIVES was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Pink" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video. 2004 Japanese reissue of 1997 album. The CD has a limited-edition mini-LP sleeve and two bonus tracks: "Falling Off" and "Fall Together." NINE LIVES marks Aerosmith's return to Columbia Records, the label for which it had its first round of stardom in the 1970s, and the label with which the band nearly slid off the rock and roll map altogether in the 1980s. Columbia shelled out a lot of money to woo back the now-bigger-than-ever band, and ends up getting exactly the kind of over-the-top pop-rock it was paying for. Working with producer Kevin Shirley (Silverchair, Journey), the seemingly ageless combo from Boston has made another record overflowing with sexual innuendo ("Pink", "Falling In Love [Is Hard On The Knees]"), power ballads ("Fallen Angels," "Hole In My Soul") and hard-hitting riffs ("Nine Lives," "Crash"). Continuing its recent fascination with sounds alien to hard rock (didja notice the Polynesian log drums on 1993's GET A GRIP?), Aerosmith dabbles with Indian culture on NINE LIVES. You can see it in the colorful packaging of the album, and hear it on "Taste Of India," which picks up where Led Zeppelin's classic "Kashmir" left off. The culturally confused epic features qawwali-esque vocalizing (a la Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), a sarangi (an Indian fiddle) and, of course, some old-fashioned rock and roll. Editorial reviews 3 Stars (out of 5) - ...Aerosmith can be relied on to temper their...machismo with plenty of humor, heart and artistic ingenuity... Rolling Stone (03/20/1997) 4 Stars (out of 5) - ...something of a grand opus....orchestrations galore....with this general riot of itchy solos, raucous innuendo, violent rhythm-pistons and smeared-on harmonies, Aerosmith haven't fallen far short of the mighty PUMP. Take It to the Limit (Alternate Mix) - (Remix, studio) Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Live Recording mode: Stereo Personnel: Randy Meisner (vocals, acoustic guitar); Buford Jones (acoustic guitar); Dixon House (keyboards, background vocals); Tom Erak (bass, background vocals); Stan Kipper (drums). Recorded live at Nick's Uptown Theatre, Dallas, Texas in 1982. Once playing bass for Poco, Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, and Rick Nelson, Randy Meisner performs live in a small Dallas club in 1982. The album contains 11 tracks including "Jealousy," "Lonesome Cowgirl," and "I Need You Bad." About five years after he'd left the Eagles, Randy Meisner recorded this live set in Dallas on December 2, 1982, before a none-too-big or (at times, at least) enthusiastic-sounding crowd. To his credit, at this point he wasn't resting on his work with the Eagles, filling up most of the set with songs from his trio of albums from the late '70s and early '80s, though he did include the Eagles' "Try and Love Again" and "Take It to the Limit." Still, it's bland if slickly executed singer/songwriter rock, touched with traces of country, folk, and pop, but less so than the work of the Eagles. Like many live albums, it's one for fans only, whether of the Eagles and/or (less likely) Meisner's solo work. The packaging is disappointing in that it has few details of the show, though it does at least list the musicians and print the lyrics. There are, incidentally, two versions of "Take It to the Limit," one of them identified as an "alternate mix." ~ Richie Unterberger

With their first set of new studio material since 2003's Vicious Cycle, legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd returns with God & Guns, due out September 29 on Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. Recorded in Nashville in 2008-2009, the project was interrupted--but, tellingly, not ended--by the deaths of founding member/keyboardist Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans earlier this year. SOUTHERN BY THE GRACE OF GOD - GATEFOLD COVER - This tour was conducted & recorded during 1987, 10 years after the fatefull plane crash of October, 1977. At the begining Johnny says this one goes out to Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, & Dean Kilpatrick.) This tribute tour & band eventually became the continuance of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and they are still recording and touring today. This one's for the "true fan".

CD comes in Jpn LP Sleeve. The Pretty Things were one of the most underrated rhythm & blues bands to come out of the mid-60's British rock explosion. So well-loved by Brits, they were often thought of in the same breath as The Rolling Stones. And, like a lot of great rhythm & blues based groups to come put of England, they stepped somewhat uneasily into the precarious psychedelic music explosion. However, in all fairness, The Pretty Things did come up with a pretty fine and original album, Emotions. Superbly well-orchestrated (especially the gorgeous "The Sun," one of the album's standouts), The Pretty Things didn't lose sight of their R&B leanings, as tracks such as "There Will Never Be Another Day" show. This reissue is also buttressed by a generous selection of bonus tracks seven of 'em - making it even more worthwhile. ~ Matthew Greenwald

SORROW, the Pretty Things lost two of their members--drummer Twink (who went on to join the Pink Fairies) and, more significantly, founder/guitarist Dick Taylor. Remarkably, though, the remaining members, now light years away from their blues-rock beginnings, pressed on in relatively undaunted fashion with PARACHUTE, another bold Beatle-esque outing. Vocalist Phil May and multi-instrumentalist Wally Allen emerged as the British band's driving force, writing eclectic tunes such as the revved-up "Miss Fay Regrets," the melancholy "Grass," and the psychedelic sing-along "She Was Tall, She Was High." Although critically lauded, the record failed to bring the Pretty Things to a wider audience, essentially sealing the ensemble's fate as a perpetually underappreciated act. While the band would record a few more albums during the 1970s in various incarnations, PARACHUTE is, in many ways, its swan song and deserves to be held in high regard along with S.F. SORROW. Editorial reviews 3 stars (out of 5) - ...they constructed an intricate collection that compared their urban environs with hippy idealism....It's quaint and listenable, and angry when it has to be. The Pretty Things: Phil May (vocals); Dick Taylor, Brian Pendleton (guitar); John Stax (bass); Viv Prince (drums). Includes liner notes by Paul Du Noyer. All tracks digitally remastered from the original master tapes by Mark St. John and Andy Pearce (February 1998, Masterpiece Mastering, London, England). Japanese edition. CD comes in Jpn LP Sleeve. Raucous to the point of making their peers the Rolling Stones look tame, the Pretty Things took the emerging British blues-rock sound of the mid-1960s and injected it with a heavy dose of manic energy. Given guitarist Dick Taylor's initial musical camaraderie with classmates Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (Taylor was in the Stones briefly before bowing out to attend art school), it's no surprise that the lesser-known group had much in common with the soon-to-be superstars. The Pretty Things' self-titled 1965 debut is a restless set of tunes largely made up of Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry covers, with the quartet surging through a feisty take on Diddley's "Roadrunner" and a breakneck-paced rendition of Berry's "Oh Baby Doll," among others. Phil May, the group's hyperactive vocalist, makes Mick seem positively polite, while the rest of the band has clearly borrowed pages from the Keith Moon book of freewheeling musicianship. The resulting album may be too raw for some listeners, but for ardent fans of early Stones, Animals, and Kinks, THE PRETTY THINGS will be a welcome discovery. Editorial reviews 4 stars out of 5 - ...Apocalyptic R&B, Stonesy rock and Kinksy pop... Q (10/01/2000) 4 Stars (out of 5) - ...THE PRETTY THINGS packs the band's lock-up-your-daughters-and-liquor-cabinets stage charm into tightly wound Bo Diddley covers...and white R&B bullets... The Japanese special-edition release features a vinyl-inspired design. CD comes in Jpn LP Sleeve. Released at the end of 1965, the Pretty Things' second album, GET THE PICTURE, proved to be a much more dynamic release than their debut. Although a number of tracks still sound distinctly like contemporaneous Rolling Stones songs, the notoriously wild British band was intent on expanding its sound here, with vocalist Phil May and guitarist Dick Taylor (an original Stone, in fact) penning a number of originals, rather than relying largely on old blues covers. "Buzz The Jerk" rides along on clanging percussion and razor-wire guitar lines, while the slinky title track brings to mind Donovan fronting the Kinks. Other highlights include the upbeat folk of "London Town" and the stinging sass of "Gonna Find Me A Substitute." In addition to the original album, this disc also presents a number of bonus tracks, most notably the energetic, Animals-esque single "Midnight To Six Man." The document of an ensemble quickly maturing musically (if not in the public eye), GET THE PICTURE is an underrated gem of mid-'60s British rock, and easily one of the Pretty Things' best records.

"Adrian Belew, Desire Caught By The Tail - OBI Mini Replica LP In A CD - Japanese"

" Z " Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Solo performer: Adrian Belew (guitar, percussion). The Japanese special-edition release features a vinyl-inspired design. CD comes in Jpn LP Sleeve. Fans of Adrian Belew's King Crimson recordings and his more experimental session work will feel right at home with DESIRE CAUGHT BY THE TAIL. Unlike the Rhino King's later solo efforts, which are dominated by a more melodic pop sensibility, DESIRE features abstract sound paintings in the tradition of the challenging, intricate, instrumental mayhem that earmarked Belew's many contributions to rock's avant-garde in the late '70s and early '80s. A total guitar-as-orchestra document, DESIRE is self-composed, arranged, produced and performed, on guitars, percussion and a battery of effects. The track list pulls the listener through a delirious gallery of evocative, cinematic soundscapes. In the surreal "Beach Creatures Dancing Like Cranes," flashes of Middle Eastern structure materialize amid monstrous guitar lines that approximate the imagery of the song's title. A hurdy-gurdy, nightmare carnival feel characterizes "Laughing Man," while "The Gypsy Zuna" features a pastiche of African drums, heavily textured tape loops, and Belew's trademark rhino guitar sounds. Throughout, Belew's formidable wizardry as a musician, collage artist and sound architect par excellence makes this canvas of instrumental gestures one of his finest achievements.

Japanese Limited Edition Issue of the Album Classic in a Deluxe, Miniaturized LP Sleeve Replica of the Original Vinyl Album Artwork - Ry broke into the digital technology early in the game, a pioneer. Interestingly, Ry was also one of the first out of the gate to digitalize his early releases, and we're fortunate for it. This release was pivital in 1972, and just as ground breaking in the CD format. Ry cataloged a variety of styles here, renditions of folk songs, delta, progressive blues... all with the originality and sparkle of Ry Cooder's slide guitar style. Profoundly original. Cherry Ball Blues is my very favorite release, slide guitar, tablas, bass and a few more interesting bits and pieces put together in a tasteful acoustic fusion. What really brings this release together is the bass playing of Tommy McClure. I really dig his style. Randy Newman is present, Sleepy John Estes (Ax sweet mama, President Kennedy), Jim Keltner on drums, a a few more. Really thoughtful and inspiring musicality. The liner notes don't really add much history behind the recording, but perhaps a quick search will bring together a bit of the studio log, and events associated with the "album." This release and myself have a history. I bought it in 1972 on vinyl LP, scratched it all up, found another LP at a Flea Market then FINALLY, and thank you Ry, the digital version on CD came out. It won't disappoint. 1. Boomer's Story 2. Cherry Ball Blues 3. Crow Black Chicken 4. Ax Sweet Mama 5. Maria Elena 6. The Dark End of the Street 7. Rally Round the Flag 8. Comes with sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging like an ORIGINAL LP. Actual miniaturized version of the 12" LP in 4" CD version. Japanese Limited Edition Issue of the Album Classic in a Deluxe, Miniaturized LP Sleeve Replica of the Original Vinyl Album Artwork - This 1976 effort contains some of Cooder's most compelling work and finds him reexploring some of the fundamental influences on a musician known for remarkable eclecticism. Most notable are "Always Lift Him Up," "Smack Dab in the Middle," and a beautiful adaptation of "Stand By Me" (which includes Flaco Jimenez on accordion.) The album opens and closes with covers of Leadbelly, namely "The Bourgeois Blues" and (you guessed it) "Goodnight Irene." Also notable is a fine reworking of the traditional number "I Got Mine." For the uninformed, "chicken skin" is the Hawaiian equivalent of "goose bumps". In other words, this is the kind of music that is meant to send chills down your spine, whether it's the blues, folk, tejano, or Hawaiian music. This album is highlighted by Gabby Pahinui. Cooder played on a number of Pahinui's albums, and Pops felt it was important to return the favor. Anyone who enjoys the guitar, especially ki ho'alu (slack key) will enjoy hearing Gabby play along with Ry Cooder. But despite the title, it's not an all-Hawaiian album. Celebrate it for its diversity, and come out of it with chicken skin. 1. Bourgeois Blues 2. I Got Mine 3. Always Lift Him Up/Kanaka Wai Wai 4. He'll Have to Go 5. Smack Dab in the Middle 6. "Iggy Pop, New Values - OBI Mini Replica LP In A CD - Japanese"

Artist: Iggy Pop Release Date: Jul 25, 2007 Format: CD Record Label: BMG (distributor) UPC: 4988017650011 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Distributor: Psp Recording type: Studio SPAR Code: DDD Personnel: Iggy Pop (vocals); Scott Thurston (guitar, harmonica, keyboards, synthesizer); James Williamson (guitar); Dave Brock (strings); John Harden (horns); Jackie Clark (bass); Klaus Kruger (drums); Earl Shackelford, The Alfono Sisters (background vocals). Producer: James Williamson. Reissue producer: Rob Santos. Recorded at Paramount Recording Studios, Hollywood, California. Includes liner notes by Ben Edmonds. Digitally remastered by Elliott Federman (SAJE Sound. New York, New York). After the David Bowie-produced classics THE IDIOT and LUST FOR LIFE (both released in 1977), Iggy Pop released the in-concert TV EYE LIVE in '78, and planned his next move. Instead of continuing in the groundbreaking art-rock direction of the two aforementioned albums, Iggy reunited with ex-Stooges guitarist James Williamson for a more straight-ahead rock approach, resulting in 1979's NEW VALUES. Although not as consistent as its predecessors, NEW VALUES contains several tracks that showed Iggy was still capable of composing gripping rock. Produced by Williamson, the album is not as over-the-top or raging as Williamson and Pop's last major studio release, Iggy & the Stooges' RAW POWER (1973)--icy new wave sounds are merged with the expected red-hot guitar rock. The title track combines a bouncy guitar riff with Iggy's contagious energy, while the snide "I'm Bored" is a forgotten new wave classic. Other standouts include "Girls," "The Endless Sea," "Five Foot One" and "Don't Look Down." Also, the track "African Man" marked Iggy's first foray into ethnic music (later explored again on 1982's ZOMBIE BIRDHOUSE). Track listing All songs written by Iggy Pop except where noted. "Tell Me a Story" - 2:50 "New Values" (Iggy Pop, Scott Thurston) - 2:39 "Girls" - 3:00 "I'm Bored" - 2:47 "Don't Look Down" (Pop, James Williamson) - 3:39 "The Endless Sea" - 4:50 "Five Foot One" - 4:29 "How Do You Fix a Broken Part" - 2:55 "Angel" (Pop, Thurston) - 3:44 "Curiosity" (Pop, Thurston) - 2:29 "African Man" (Pop, Thurston) - 3:35 "Billy Is a Runaway" (Pop, Thurston) - 2:31 Editorial reviews 4 stars out of 5 - ...A surreal foray into Iggy's increasingly pop-orientated mind... Japanese Limited Edition Issue of the Album Classic in a Deluxe, Miniaturized GATEFOLD JACKET LP Sleeve Replica of the Original Vinyl Album Artwork - BURNIN' 3 BONUS TRACKS ONLY AVAILABLE ON THIS PRESSING - In the wake of reggae's breakthrough into rock awareness with the Robin Hood saga, The Harder They Come, the soundtrack that first rooted the music's sultry push beat and seductive patois in the underclass struggles of modern Jamaica erupted forcefully on this 1973 classic--The Wailers' second album targeting beyond their underground to fresh, impressionable rock fans. What was a revelation to rockers was really the work of a seasoned band captured on the eve of internal upheaval: Trenchtown stars since the late '60s, the band's most charismatic member, Bob Marley, loomed as its perceived frontman, a development which hastened the departures of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer and made Burnin' the final statement from that earlier configuration. The original version of "I Shot the Sheriff," which had spread reggae's outlaw ethos and staccato, propulsive sound on Eric Clapton's hit cover, is more than matched by the anthemic "Get Up, Stand Up," the call-to-arms of "Burnin' And Lootin'," the Rastafarian pride of "Rasta Man Chant," as well as strong remakes of "Small Axe" and "Duppy Conqueror."- 1. Nancy (With the Laughing Contributing artists: Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo John Coltrane Quartet: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); McCoy Tyner (piano); Jimmy Garrison, Reggie Workman (bass); Elvin Jones (drums). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey between December 21, 1961 and November 13, 1962. This Deluxe Edition of BALLADS includes a bonus disc of previously unissued material. Personnel includes: John Coltrane (soprano & tenor saxophone); McCoy Tyner (piano); Jimmy Garrison (bass); Elvin Jones (drums). Producer: Bob Thiele. Reissue producers: Ken Druker, Bryan Koniarz. Recorded at Van Gelder Studios, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey between December 21, 1961 and November 13, 1962. Includes liner notes by Francis Davis and Rudy Van Gelder. All tracks have been digitally remastered. BALLADS (1962) finds John Coltrane's classic quartet (which includes bassist Jimmy Garrison, pianist McCoy Tyner, and drummer Elvin Jones) gathering force as a unit and turning their skills to a softer, warmer sound than is usually be found on the team's recordings from the time. Some critics accused Coltrane of capitulating to commercial pressures with this release, but that reaction overlooks the gorgeous performances on "You Don't Know What Love Is," "I Wish I Knew," and others. A beautiful album, and a great entry point for those who might otherwise find Coltrane's '60s work too abrasive. Editorial reviews 4 Stars - Very Good - ...BALLADS...has always been about the celebration of pitch and melody. The band...hadn't played any of the tunes prior, but its proficiency leaned toward perfection. Down Beat (19951101) 4 stars out of 5 - ...This music sounds even fresher today than when it was recorded at the dawn of the '60s... Uncut (20030301) 4 Stars - Excellent - ...a hard, unfaltering attack and furiously intense, extended improvisations that bordered on free-jazz. BALLADS was a timely reminder of the tenor saxophonist's matchless lyricism and exquisite tone... Q (19951001)

"Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bayou Country - OBI Mini Replica LP In a CD - Japanese"

Artist: Creedence Clearwater Revival Release Date: Jun 23, 2006 Format: CD Record Label: JVC Victor UPC: 4988002507511 Genre: Country Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Special Attributes: Enhanced CD, Import, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Born on the Bayou 2. Bootleg 3. Graveyard Train 4. Good Golly Miss Molly 5. Penthouse Pauper 6. Proud Mary 7. Keep on Chooglin' Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Japanese remaster in an LP-replica sleeve. Released in early 1969, the second album by guitarist/vocalist John Fogerty's Californian quartet is perhaps the definitive example of the group's swampy brew of rock, R&B, and blues. The key song on BAYOU COUNTRY is "Proud Mary," a rock milestone that still sounds just as fresh and exciting as it did when it first boomed out of AM radios decades ago. Although Creedence indulges in a few extended jams on tracks like "Keep On Chooglin" and "Graveyard Train," they forsake the gratuitous soloing favored by many of their San Francisco contemporaries in favor of fleshing out rhythmic, rock-solid grooves. From Fogerty's formidable bluesman's growl on "Born On The Bayou" to the explosive version of Little Richard's "Good Golly Miss Molly," BAYOU COUNTRY is what rootsy rock & roll is all about, and it's one of the best American rock albums of the '60s. Editorial reviews 3.5 stars out of 5 -- Bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug Clifford walk the beat with zen proficiency as Fogerty stretches his Howlin' Wolf yowl over his rangy guitar pearls. Blender ...very reminiscent of that early Stones [sound] - hard rock, based in blues....John Fogerty carries the group with his good lead guitar...good vocal and harp work....[CCR] has a solid overall sound....very tight... Includes liner notes by Ben Fong-Torres. Digitally remastered utilizing the 20-Bit K2 Super Coding System. CCR seemed like something of an anomaly on their 1968 debut. They were miles from the mind-expanding flower-power explorations of their California contemporaries. They came across as a gritty, hard-hitting band respectful of their blues, country, and rock & roll roots. John Fogerty's cutting, raspy voice bore echoes of Howlin' Wolf and Little Richard as he delivered lyrics that alternately celebrated and bemoaned a working man's life, much like Merle Haggard and other '60s country artists. That the strong New Orleans swamp-rock flavor seemed so natural (Californian Fogerty's bayou tales were pure flights of fancy) was a testament to the strength of CCR's musical vision. The way they put a respectful but contemporary twist on Dale Hawkins's "Suzie Q" and the chilling "I Put a Spell on You" shows that they knew enough about the past to step confidently into rock & roll's future. Editorial reviews ...Suprisingly powerful... Mojo

The Clash: Joe Strummer, Mick Jones (vocals, guitar); Paul Simonon (vocals, bass); Terry Chimes, Nicky "Topper" Headon (drums). Additional personnel: Mikey Dread (vocals); Micky Gallagher (organ). Recorded live at Bond's and Shea Stadium, New York, New York; The Orpheum, Boston, Massachussetts; Victoria Park, Music Machine, The Lyceum and Lewisham Odeon, London, England between 1978 and 1982. Compilation producers: Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, Topper Headon. Almost 15 years after the band's official breakup, this is the first "new" Clash release. It arrives like an explosive time capsule from the late '70s/early '80s. The songs are arranged chronologically, drawn from various shows ranging from 1978 to 1982. The group's raging punk aesthetic is displayed on such furious, power-chord anthems as "Complete Control" and "London's Burning." Sardonic social commentary mixes with urgent hooks on "Career Opportunities" and the reggae-inflected "(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais." The band dabbles in dub on "Armagideon Time," assisted by organist Mickey Gallagher and noted reggae artist Mikey Dread. Mick Jones' poppier side is displayed on "Train in Vain," where his endearingly strained yelp sounds even quirkier than on the studio recording. Bassist Paul Simonon's vocal turn on the deep-reggae protest song "Guns of Brixton" is much more emotive than the stoic LONDON CALLING version. Joe Strummer rants and raves like a man possessed on the rock-rap "The Magnificent Seven" and the slamming "Know Your Rights," making it clear what an effective frontman/rabble-rouser he was. The level of growth the Clash managed by the end of its career is heard on the contemplative, atmospheric closer "Straight to Hell." Editorial reviews ...an atmospheric souvenir....reminders that a Clash perfomrance was built not from musical finesse but from adrenalin, exhibitionism and jumbo, roaring choruses... Mojo ...the first legitimate collection of live Clash recordings....Strummer and Mick Jones' guitars burned with the kind of boldness and passion that made the original punk movement such a cultural earthquake. CMJ (19991108) 5 out of 5 - ...an exceptional if not essential offering....Perhaps the best introductory Clash disc yet... Alternative Press (20000101) 4 stars out of 5 - ...the first official live document of the band's nine-year career....At last...we have a record of The Clash in their element.
