"Creedence Clearwater Revival, Willy And The Poor Boys - OBI Mini Replica LP In a CD - Japanese - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"

Artist: Creedence Clearwater Revival Release Date: Jun 23, 2006 Format: CD Record Label: JVC Victor UPC: 4988002507535 Genre: Country Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Special Attributes: Enhanced CD, Import, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Down on the Corner 2. It Came Out of the Sky 3. Cotton Fields 4. Poorboy Shuffle 5. Feelin' Blue 6. Fortunate Son 7. Don't Look Now (It Ain't You or Me) 8. Midnight Special, The 9. Side O'The Road 10. Effigy Playing time: 2071000 ms Producer: John Fogerty Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Digitally remastered utilizing the 20-Bit K2 Super Coding System. Opening up with the feel-good, down-home groove of the hit "Down on the Corner" and featuring all-out, belligerent roots rock like "Fortunate Son" and loose, soul-drenched instrumentals like "Side Of The Road," WILLY AND THE POOR BOYS is sensational from start to finish. Throughout CCR's brief career, their sound was a musical evocation of a mythic rural South, and WILLY AND THE POOR BOYS is arguably the most Southern-sounding of all their records. Even though this t10-song album is padded out with cover versions of such folk-blues standards as "Cotton Fields" and "The Midnight Special," John and brother Tom Fogerty's ragged electric guitar playing and the minimalist bass and drum work of Stu Cook and Doug Clifford make these well-known songs sound like Creedence originals. Editorial reviews 5 stars out of 5 -- WiLLY AND THE POOR BOYS is their loosest and most class-conscious record. Blender 4 stars out of 5 -- [The album] upped the anger ante on 'Fortunate Son,' which rages against class-based draft inequality with rare, beat-driven fury... Rolling Stone

"Adrian Belew, Lone Rhino - OBI Mini Replica LP In A CD - Japanese"

RARE OBI JAPAN REPLICA CD - TREMENDOUSLY RARE OUT OF PRINT MASTERPIECE - FACTORY SEALED - LAST COPY FOREVER - This is a Japanese re-mastered Mini LP replica Limited Edition Collection - Japanese exclusive reissue, limited to 5,000 pieces, of 1982 album that's out-of-print domestically, made world-wide and are immediately Out of Print. Recorded from the finest Original Masters available. Comes with: anti-static sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging like an LP, re-sealable plastic wrap cases for protection of the collectible Actual miniaturized version of the 12" LP in 4" CD version. Yikes, this is dating me. I purchased Lone Rhino on vinyl when Island released it shortly after King Crimson's release came out. I still have the vinyl. I've been meaning to transfer it for some time and burn a decent copy. Now I don't have to. Belew's first solo album has some of his sharpest songs on it. The Zappa and Beatles influences are all over the place but it's still uniquely Ade. From the stomping Big Electric Cat with its yowling guitar and backward drumming to Man in the Moon Ade's (I assume)moving song about his father, Lone Rhino is top notch. So why only 4 Stars? It's not his best album. Meet The Beatles (or Please Please Me & With The Beatles if you're discussing the CD releases and/or vinyl releases throghout the world expect the US wasn't The Beatles best. It was a remarkable blast of fresh air. So is Lone Rhino. I know a number of Belew fans who dislike the instrumental pieces. I find them to be moving and melodic. Belew makes music do the talking here. The mournful Lone Rhino is an instrumental highlight. In many respects Lone Rhino reminds me of McCartney's first solo album. It's simple but never simplistic; it's direct but never blunt; it's melodic but doesn't meander. It isn't a perfect album. It does have its flaws but those flaws seem less of an issue twenty years later. Occasionally Belew goes for the easy humor of Adidas in Heat. It's a bopping little tune that deserved better lyrics or, perhaps, deserved not to be on the album. Still, it's got charm and the brass band coda does make up for the shortcomings of the lyrics. Lone Rhino sounds great. It has been remastered from the original analog masters using the 24 bit mastering popular now. The sleeve (and it is a sleeve)is an exact replica of the original one from 1982 except that there is no paper sleeve with the lyrics (they're printed on a folded one sheet in Japanese and English). Issued (if memory serves) right around the time of Beat, Lone Rhino proved that Belew had much more talent than was evident. 1. Big Electric Cat 2. The Momur 3. Stop It 4. The Man in the Moon 5. Naive Guitar [Instrumental] 6. Hot Sun [Instrumental] 7. The Lone Rhinoceros 8. Swingline 9. Adidas in Heat 10. Animal Grace 11. The Final Rhino [Instrumental]

"Adrian Belew, Twang Bar King - OBI Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese"

RARE OBI JAPAN REPLICA CD - 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION - TREMENDOUSLY RARE OUT OF PRINT MASTERPIECE - FACTORY SEALED - LAST COPY FOREVER - This is a Japanese re-mastered Mini LP replica Limited Edition Collection - Japanese exclusive reissue, limited to 5,000 pieces, of 1983 album that's out-of-print domestically, made world-wide and are immediately Out of Print. Recorded from the finest Original Masters available. Comes with: anti-static sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging like an LP, re-sealable plastic wrap cases for protection of the collectible Actual miniaturized version of the 12" LP in 4" CD version. I have to wonder if the title is a pun on the role Belew saw himself in as part of King Crimson. Belew's second album lacks some of the snap and sizzle of his debut but is, for the most part, a very good follow up. The highlight is undisputedly his frantic reworking of The Beatles' I'm Down. He Belewizes it. There's a number of originals that are as good as his first album but following so closely on the heels of Discipline, Beat and Lone Rhino may have diminished its impact. I Wonder meanders a bit but has a worthwile lyric and bouncy melody. THe real highlights (besides I'm Down)is She is not Dead and Life Without a Cage. The former song is an odd, mournful tune with a Middle Eastern flavor. The latter song opens with a series of oddly phased piano chords before parading into a strident rocker. It's one of Belew's best songs on the album with its odd time signature changes. Belew grafts three distinct different melodies. It creates the effect of an musical roller coaster and there's more than one or two tips of the hat to The Beatles (particularly songs like We Can Work It Out and A Day in the Life). The phased effect on the tune recalls without imitating Revolver's She Said and Tomorrow Never Knows. A sudden shift of gears is represented by two contrasting pieces. Sexy Rhino is little more than a fragment. The Blast of Twang Bar King kicks the album back into high gear and helps close out what used to be the first side of the LP/cassette with the one-two punch of Another Time and the affecting The Rail Song. The odd instrumental Paint The Road paves the way for the stunning She Is Not Dead. The album's quality dips with the twin tracks Fish Head and The Ideal Woman. Fish Head is the most disappointing of the original songs. It's imitative without the spark of originality one has come to associate with Belew. The album closes with the stunning and mournful Ballet for a Blue Whale. It's an instrumental using the many guitar effects Belew had at his disposal at the time. Although not quite as surprising as his debut Twang Bar King is actually a better, braver and more consistent record. It proved that the highlights of both Lone Rhino and the King Crimson album Discipline were no accident. Belew had arrived as both musician and artist. 1. I'm Down 2. I Wonder 3. Life Without a Cage 4. Sexy Rhino 5. Twang Bar King 6. Another Time 7. The Rail Song 8. Paint the Road [Instrumental] 9. She Is Not Dead 10. Fish Head 11. The Ideal Woman 12. Ballet for a Blue Whale [Instrumental]

"Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cosmo's Factory - OBI Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese - CURRENTLY SOLD OUT"

Creedence Clearwater Revival Release Date: Jun 23, 2006 Format: CD Record Label: JVC Victor UPC: 4988002507542 Genre: Country Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Special Attributes: Enhanced CD, Import, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Ramble Tamble 2. Before You Accuse Me 3. Travelin' Band 4. Ooby Dooby 5. Looking Out My Back Door 6. Run Through the Jungle 7. Up and Around the Bend 8. My Baby Left Me 9. Who'll Stop the Rain 10. I Heard It Through the Grapevine 11. Long as I Can See the Light Playing time: 2548000 ms Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Limited-edition Japanese release packaged in an LP-style slipcase. Creedence Clearwater Revival's continued their reputation as a consummate singles act with the release of COSMO'S FACTORY. Three of its singles, the blazing "Travelin' Band," the driving sting of "Up Around The Bend," and the irresistibly sunny fantasia hoedown "Looking Out My Back Door" (complete with tambourines and elephants) each achieved gold status. These tunes hit the mark completely, capturing the group's accessible, hook-laden rock 'n' roll with a lightness and urgency balanced by stinging guitars, unforgettable melodies, and the expressive voice of lead singer/songwriter John Fogerty. Though COSMO'S FACTORY has its share of covers, including a version of the Sun Records oldie "Oobie Doobie" and an extended jam on the Marvin Gaye classic "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," it still overflows with great originals. "Ramble Tamble" and "Run Through the Jungle" are edgy rockers build around killer guitar riffs, both driven by an uncharacteristically dark, shadowy feel. "Long As I Can See the Light" is full of plaintive yearning, while the poignant "Who'll Stop the Rain" ranks among Fogerty's finest tunes. Creedence's ability to fuse traditional pop elements with downhome simplicity, rock edge, and superb songcraft is in full effect on COSMO'S FACTORY, placing it alongside GREEN RIVER and WILLIE AND THE POOR BOYS as one of their best albums. Editorial reviews 5 stars out of 5 -- It's their spare recorded sound which really thrills....The grooves fierce but sloppy, the singing raw and beseeching, the guitars mordant. Mojo ...one great rock and roll band...another damn good album by a group which is going to be around for a long time... Rolling Stone (19700903)

"Hall & Oates, Bigger Than Both - OBI Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese"

Artist: Hall & Oates Release Date: Dec 26, 2005 Format: CD Record Label: Bmg/Rca UPC: 4988017608241 Genre: Pop Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Back Together Again 2. Rich Girl 3. Crazy Eyes 4. Do What You Want, Be What You Are 5. Kerry 6. London Luck & Love 7. Room to Breathe 8. You'll Never Learn 9. Falling Playing time: 2091000 ms Producer: Joe Reagoso (Reissue), Christopher Bond, Robin Manning Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo 24bit digitally remastered Japanese limited edition issue of the album classic in a deluxe, miniaturized LP sleeve replica of the original vinyl album artwork. K2 laser cutting. Personnel: Daryl Hall (vocals, guitar, mandola, keyboards, synthesizer, vibraphone); John Oates (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards, synthesizer); Christopher Bond, C.B. (guitar, keyboards, synthesizer); Tom Scott (flute, saxophone, lyricon); Charlie DeChant (saxophone); Tom Hensley (piano); James Getzoff (keyboards); Ed Greene, Jim Gordon (drums); Gary Coleman (percussion). Audio Remasterer: Tom "Curly" Ruff. Recording information: Cherokee studios; Sound Labs Studios, Inc., Hollywoord, CA. Illustrator: Ron Barrey. Photographers: Kathy Mae Hohl; Gribbit; Sam Emerson. Arrangers: Christopher Bond; Daryl Hall; John Oates; Stephen Dees. This is a transitional album for the duo. Its sound is dominated by the blue-eyed soul for which they'd become famous, but toward the end there are some stylistic change of paces. The big hit here, "Rich Girl," is one of the pair's best Motown pastiches; it was reputedly inspired by Errol Wetson, heir to the hamburger fortune. Hall seems to have felt, rightly, that "Rich Boy" didn't quite have the same ring.

When the departures of original frontman Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett left Genesis a studio trio of Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford, few could have expected the band to climb to greater levels of commercial success. But that's exactly what happened, and Genesis' left-field rebirth as a unlikely pop act began with this album, which introduced the newly slimmed-down lineup. But that's not the whole story. While the haunting love song "Follow You, Follow Me" introduced the band to the singles charts, elsewhere the group's penchant for accessibly complex composition and evocative lyrical dramas is in force on tracks like "Deep in the Motherlode," "Burning Rope," "Down and Out," and "Ballad of Big." 1. "Genesis, Wind & Wuthering - OBI Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese - Bonus DVD"

Artist: Genesis (U.K. Band) Release Date: Jul 25, 2007 Format: CD Record Label: EMI UPC: 4988006855335 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: Progressive & Art Rock Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Distributor: Psp Recording type: Studio SPAR Code: DDD Genesis: Phil Collins (vocals, drums); Mike Rutherford (guitar, bass); Steve Hackett (guitar); Tony Banks (piano, keyboards, synthesizers). Recorded at Relight Studios, Hilvarerenbeek, Holland. Peter Gabriel was such a charismatic frontman and unique singer/lyricist that many assumed Genesis would fold after his departure. WIND & WUTHERING proved that there was much to the group than just Gabriel's talents. Drummer Phil Collins, who'd sung a couple of songs on previous albums, had taken over lead vocal duties on the previous A TRICK OF THE TAIL, with surprisingly successful results. His voice wasn't as edgy as Gabriel's, but was a bit more palatable to mass audiences, and the group's popularity continued to grow. Many of the songs here pick up musically where LAMB and TRICK OF THE TAIL left off, with sharply focused tunes that show off the group's prog-rock chops without getting too bombastic. There are some new developments as well. The instrumental "Wot Gorilla?" is a tasty, fusion-tinged piece that bears echoes of Collins' work with jazz-rockers Brand X. This song and others show Tony Banks's increased use of synthesizer. The most precipitous change is the introduction of a commercial ballad sensibility with the light, romantic "Your Own Special Way." This tune marked a direction Collins would explore further with Genesis in the years to come. WIND AND WUTHERING - 1. Eleventh Earl of Mar 2. One for the Vine 3. Your Own Special Way 4. Each title Comes with anti-static sleeves similar to Vinyl LPs, Cardboard packaging exact to the original LP, Re-sealable plastic wrap cases for protection of each collectible Actual miniaturized version of the 12" JACKET LP in 4" REPLICA JACKET CD version Special VERY RARE LIMITED EDITION BOX SET ONLY PRODUCED ON FUTURES FOR THIS ONE TIME PRESSING -- were only available in Japan. THE BOX SET - INCLUDES INDELIBLY STAMPED - Like their 1970 self-titled debut, Supertramp's second album, 1971's "Indelibly Stamped," was critically-acclaimed but didn't exactly set the cash registers ablaze. Still, the band continued to evolve, as they stepped away from the psychedelic rock of the first album and honed their trademark jazz/pop/rock hybrid sound that would eventually sell millions, starting with "Crime Of The Century." "Indelibly Stamped" is a marvelous Supertramp album, and a definite sign of things to come. For the second 'Tramp album, singer/guitarist Roger Hodgson and keyboardist Rick Davies got themselves a new line-up: bassist Frank Farrell, drummer Kevin Currie, and Dave Winthrop on flute & sax. Also, Rick Davies finally stepped up to the microphone for the first time with his first batch of lead vocals. Every single song on "Indelibly Stamped" is an excellent one. "Your Poppa Don't Mind" is a fun keyboard-thumper. "Travelled" is a lovely acoustic number that reminds me of vintage Crosby, Stills & Nash, and "Rosie Had Everything Planned" is a fine, light & breezy tune about a woman who gets into trouble with the law. "Remember" is pure arena rock all the way (complete with cheering audience), and "Forever" is, in my estimation, one of the greatest love songs ever written, as it says everything you could ever want to say to your sweetheart in a song, and you can slowdance to it. I'm definitely playing it at my wedding, that's for sure! "Potter" is a brief but excellent blast of guitar rock. "Coming Home To See You" is a pure gem, the lyrics in the style of a phonecall from a rude boyfriend to his girl, with the band kicking into a delightful, chugging choo-choo train jam at the end, featuring some outstanding organ & harmonica from Davies. "Times Have Changed" is a classic Davies ballad, signaling his other great, piano-based compositions that would follow. "Friend In Need" is a short but appealingly playful number, featuring some nice 20's-style piano & sax. And finally, Hodgson leads the band in the tremendous "Aries," a breathtaking 7 1/2 minute acoustic whirlwind. It's a phenomenal piece, another unsung 'Tramp classic. Once again, Hodgson & Davies' singing, songwriting & playing are superb, and their musical chemistry with the rest of the band simply cooks. This second version of Supertramp quickly folded after the commercial disappointment of "Indelibly Stamped," but, without question, they undeniably laid down the blueprint for the third and most-famous version of the band that would follow with "Crime Of The Century," with the band's signature jazz/pop/rock sound now firmly in place. "Indelibly Stamped," like Supertramp's self-titled debut from 1970, is a wonderful buried treasure that no 'Tramp fan should do without. 1. Your Poppa Don't Mind 2. Travelled 3. Rosie Had Everything Planned 4. Remember 5. Forever 6. Potter 7. Coming Home to See You 8. Times Have Changed 9. Friend in Need 10. Aries SUPERTRAMP - SELF TITLES - Many people like Supertramp up to Breakfast in America before they became 'too commercialised', and others like the Breakfast sound and not the earlier albums. Personally I would like to scrap both of those opinions, and say that I think ALL of their albums range from extremely good to sublime. But this first one stands out in my record collection of them. Surely, Maybe I'm A Beggar, Aubade and Other Birds of Prey bring tears to my eyes; and Nothing to Show and It's A Long Road are excellent rockers. As always, the falsetto of Roger Hodgson is hauntingly beautiful, leaving a soaring feeling long after you've turned off your hi-fi. Rick Davies does magic on the keyboards, Bob Miller's Led Zeppelin drumming is fantastic, and Richard Palmer's bass adds perfectly tuned low notes to the ensemble. All in all this is Supertramp at its finest - at times a Floyd/Zeppelin sound, mixed with their later sound: a FANTASTIC album. Another few albums I would recommend for the melodious sound are Even In The Quietest Moments, Crime of the Century and Famous Last Words, as well as Breakfast in America of course. Long live Supertramp 1. Surely 2. It's a Long Road 3. Aubade and I Am Not Like Other Birds of Prey 4. Words Unspoken 5. Maybe I'm a Beggar 6. Home Again 7. Nothing to Show 8. Shadow Song 9. Try Again 10. Surely FREE AS A BIRD - It's back in print! Hooray! After being MIA from record shops for several years, Supertramp's 1987 album, "Free As A Bird," has been re-issued & re-mastered, for which Tramp fans, especially those who missed the album the first time around, can be grateful. "Free As A Bird" barely made a dent on the album charts 15 years ago, and the band couldn't even tour for it in North America, but it's a great album all the same. After the serious tone of 1985's "Brother Where You Bound," Rick Davies & company decided for the follow-up album to lighten things up and have fun. "Free As A Bird" is a very catchy, upbeat, sometimes dance-oriented Tramp album that's perfect to play at a party, or cruise down the highway to. Songs like "It's Alright" & "I'm Beggin' You" will get you on the dancefloor in no time. The title song, a minor hit, is a Supertramp concert staple, with a great sing-along chorus. And there's more great jazz/pop from the band in tracks like "Not The Moment," "Thing For You," and the calypso-influenced finale, "An Awful Thing To Waste."After "Free As A Bird," Supertramp took a whole decade off before resuming work with 1997's "Some Things Never Change," and the "Free As A Bird" album itself went out of print for several years. But now that it's back, DON'T miss out. "Free As A Bird" is Supertramp at their most fun, and a great buried treasure from this great band. 1. It's Alright 2. Not the Moment 3. It Doesn't Matter 4. Where I Stand 5. Free as a Bird 6. I'm Beggin' You 7. You Never Can Tell With Friends 8. Thing for You 9. An Awful Thing to Waste BROTHER WHERE YOU BOUND - This album, the first to be recorded without guitarist/vocalist Roger Hodgson stands out for a couple reasons: 1. It was a massive improvement on their previous album, "Famous Last Words" 2. It has a darker, jazzier sound than any of their other work. Granted that most of their previous material had been largely upbeat, majoy key compositions, many die hard Supertramp fans simply don't know what to think of this, hence the bad reviews. But this is a brilliant album. Possibly one of the best released in the horrendous decade for music, the 80's. 4 of the six songs are dark, minor key and somewhat slow in tempo, except for the danceable, infectious "Cannonball." The remaining two songs have a happier feel. The title track is very different for Supertramp, and the most progressive work they've done to date, alongside "Fool's Overture." In terms of structure is it somewhat incohesive, but overall it has brilliant music moments in it that make it a true masterpiece, a standout in the bands repertoire. The melancholy "No Inbetween," is quite slow moving, but still holds your interest. "Better Days" is somewaht dramatic and emotional and has a cool jam thing in the end. "Still in Love" is more traditional Supertramp fare, with it's catchy sax lines and jumpy piano. "Ever Open Door" is sort of a slow, tender kind of song, and a nice warm way to close an album. For people who aren't fans of change, skip this. For those who are, buy it for sure. The darker, piano-dominated sound is certainly a change, and definetly a welcome one. True, the loss of Hodgson is lamentable, but don't worry about it too much, because without him, Supertramp is alive and well. 1. Cannonball 2. Still in Love 3. No Inbetween 4. Better Days 5. Brother Where You Bound 6. Ever Open Door FAMOUS LAST WORDS - Famous Last Words" was just that for Roger Hodgson, co-songwriter, whose departure is synonymous with the album. But not letting disputes or history ruin the music, Supertramp offers yet another superb album, still keeping their catchy mock-pop flavor, but trading in their stark cynicism for a well balanced and finely produced element of R&B, with that classic arrogant touch. Though FAMOUS LAST WORDS was one of the last in a string of successful albums for Supertramp, it nonetheless shows a wonderful progression from their tight musical style of the 70's to an even more harmonic, traditional--yet inventive--fashion. The tracks here may be the most quintessential Supertramp tracks of the 80's, setting the stage for those contained on 1985's Brother Where You Bound? (which Hodgson was not a part of). Crazy has a catchy yet uniquely creative beat and tune (like all tracks on FAMOUS LAST WORDS) My Kind of Lady is a simple love song that compliments Bonnie, which could have easily been a staple of soft rock radio, while the vocally organized Put On Your Old Brown Shoes and C'est Le Bon are probably Supertramp's most obviously R&B-influenced songs to date; the excellent Know Who You Ar' holds a mood of near-melancholia; It's Raining Again is one of their most curious songs (since'Give a Little Bit from"Even in the Quietest Moment"), this one being a highly upbeat, traditionally quirky ditty for the brokenhearted, complete with a chorus of kids singing It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring..." Then again, Waiting So Long boasts heavier guitar riffs and haunting vocal sounds, an exemplary Supertramp performance, as Don't Leave Me Now is one of the more musically imaginative ballads of the 80s. PARIS - GATEFOLD JACKET REPLICA - If you are a fan of the 70's, you need this album. If you don't own any Supertramp, this is the one to get. From the opening harmonica in 'School' to the closing harmonica in 'Crime of The Century', this 16-track set is just mind-blowing. Why? So many textures working magically together to create rich musical patterns. Even if this was a studio album, the production/arrangements would be classed as awesome. Consider that it is live, and that there are only 5 musicians (not 30 as it sometimes sounds), it has got to be just bloody brilliant! "Do yourself a favour!" Close the blinds - dim the lights - sit in your comfy chair - setup your multidisc player for uninterrupted play, and transport yourself to 1980, Paris. Oh, and by the way - standout track is the climactic "Crime of the century". The guitar part is verging out-of-control, and the sax part will rip your heart out! DISC ONE - 1. School 2. Ain't Nobody But Me 3. The Logical Song 4. Bloody Well Right 5. Breakfast in America 6. You Started Laughing 7. Hide in Your Shell 8. From Now On DISC TWO - 1. Dreamer 2. Rudy 3. A Soapbox Opera 4. Asylum 5. Take the Long Way Home 6. Fool's Overture 7. Two of Us 8. Crime of the Century BREAKFAST IN AMERICA - After a shaky start followed by several critically acclaimed releases, the English group Supertramp hit the commercial jackpot in 1979 with Breakfast in America. The album combined the band's FM radio, AOR-rock style with an almost carnival-like nature. Breakfast gave the band major hits with "The Logical Song," "Goodbye Stranger," and "Take the Long Way Home." The plinking piano and dramatic clarinet runs of "The Logical Song" imparted a comic, yet bittersweet tone to the release as a whole. In another example of the band's devotion to alternative ways to carry their melody lines, "Goodbye Stranger" rings with some of the purest whistling ever recorded. There's also a healthy dose of cynicism running through the 10 tracks with "Just Another Nervous Wreck." 1. Gone Hollywood 2. The Logical Song 3. Goodbye Stranger 4. Breakfast in America 5. Oh Darling 6. Take the Long Way Home 7. Lord Is It Mine 8. Just Another Nervous Wreck 9. Casual Conversations 10. Child of Vision EVEN IN THE QUESTEST MONENTS - In Supertramp's heyday back in the 1970's and early 1980's, there was nobody else quite like them. Their music was, and still is, unique. On Even in the Quietest Moments, this band has done what they always did best: they play intelligent music with complex musical compositions, variable textures, and thoughtful lyrics. This album is a masterpiece. "Fool's Overture" is an unforgettable epic song, taking eleven minutes to wind through a masterfully crafted musical landscape until reaching an intense crescendo led by Roger Hodgson's soaring vocals. The title track is of similar magnanimity; it's just as enthralling, but it's only six minutes long. "Give A Little Bit" proved to be a hit single and is Supertramp's most widely known song on the album. "Lover Boy" is a lighthearted affair, and "Downstream" is a quaint voyage on the water with nothing more than Rick Davies and his piano. "Babaji" is another intense and entertaining ride, and "From Now On" has an almost jazz-like sound to it highlighted by John Anthony Helliwell's saxophone. That covers the album... Seven outstanding songs from a talented group of seven musicians. It's a shame Roger Hodgson left Supertramp, as he was half of the band's creative genius (the other half being Rick Davies, of course). But Even in the Quietest Moments captures Supertramp's majestic sound, and I highly recommend the album to you! 1. Give a Little Bit 2. Lover Boy 3. Even in the Quietest Moments 4. Downstream 5. Babaji 6. From Now On 7. Fool's Overture CRISIS WHAT CRISIS? - Ex-`Tramp Roger Hodgson calls "Crisis? What Crisis?" the Supertramp album he listens to most often, because of it's "rawness," at Hodgson puts it. The album was indeed devised while the band was under pressure to put forth another album and tour in the wake of their breakthrough third album "Crime of the Century," which may be why the ex-vocalist finds the finished product more raw when compared to other Supertramp albums. But for an album that was planned and recorded while the band was under stress to keep the momentum going, "Crisis? What Crisis?" is an elaborate suite of songs, making it a crushing shame that the album will almost never appear on any big-time 100 Greatest Albums of Rock & Roll lists. The dignified pop of Supertramp always sounded clinical and studio-polished, but not because of any Steely Dan-like studio isolation. That's just the way it was (ironically it translated well onto stage, as captured on the 1980 live album "Paris"). This album isn't exactly "raw" but it is certainly a bit more freewheeling and often less tightly wound as Supertramp's other albums. The album also allows a bit more space for Hodgson's guitars, which he often replaced with keyboards. Even though the quintet was under pressure to release another album, many spots on the album suggest that the band was having some fun, shown in the positive opener `Easy Does It,' `Lady,' and `Another Man's Woman.' There is however at least one genuinely raw song, the heavy schizophrenic `Ain't Nobody But Me.' But there are also plenty of tracks to confirm Supertramp's ability to create pure, flawless, and sophisticated pop songs like `Sister Moonshine' and `A Soapbox Opera.'. The world-weary `Just A Normal Day' is balanced by the more optimistic and catchy `The Meaning.' The innocent `Poor Boy' is a delight, and speaking of innocent, the closing `Two Of Us' is as elegant a three-and-a-half-minutes as any `Tramp fan could ask for. "Crisis? What Crisis?" connected perfectly with "Crime of the Century," and though its chart peak in the US was just a few spots below its predecessor, many of its songs were becoming staples of FM radio, establishing Supertramp as a serious, dignified attraction. And there was more where this came from; maybe it wasn't such a "Crisis" after all. 1. Easy Does It 2. Sister Moonshine 3. Ain't Nobody But Me 4. A Soapbox Opera 5. Another Man's Woman 6. Lady 7. Poor Boy 8. Just a Normal Day 9. The Meaning 10. Two of Us CRIME OF THE CENTURY - After releasing two albums to less than positive critique, Crime of the Century, with the classic track "Dreamer," set Supertramp truly on the map. It also marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career for a band that originally came together through the "Musicians Wanted" section of a British paper. Combining the best of a myriad of musical styles, Supertramp, with its heavily keyboard-powered and sax-colored progressive pop sound, forged a sound that few have ever come close to emulating 1. School 2. Bloody Well Right 3. Hide in Your Shell 4. Asylum 5. Dreamer 6. Rudy 7. If Everyone Was Listening 8. "Strawberry Alarm Clock, Good Morning Starshine - OBI Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese"

Artist: Strawberry Alarm Clock Release Date: Sep 24, 1997 Format: CD Record Label: Uni UPC: 4988067030191 Genre: Pop Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: -- Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Dear Joy 11. Changes 12. Desiree 13. I Climbed the Mountain 14. Three 15. Starting Out the Day 16. California Day 17. Girl From the City 18. Good Morning Starshine Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Japanese release featuring 7 bonus tracks: "Desireee", "I Climbed The Mountain", "Three", "Starting Out The Day", "California Day", "Girl From The City", & "Good Morning Starshine". The last studio recording from psychedelic 1960s act Strawberry Alarm Clock features "Off Ramp Road Tramp" and "Miss Attraction." Japanese version includes seven extra songs. CD contains 7 bonus tracks. This is the fourth and final long-player of new material from Strawberry Alarm Clock (SAC). As with their previous discs, Good Morning Starshine is a mixed affair. Prior to recording the album, the band underwent a somewhat drastic personnel change -- replacing longtime members George Bunnell (bass/vocals) and Randy Seol (drums/vocals) with Jimmy Pitman (guitar/vocals) and Gene Gunnels (drums), respectively. Also of note is the fact that all of Bunnell's songwriting credits for material on this album actually belong to Gunnels. The music has shifted away from the mix of punky psychedelia such as "Love Me Again" and "The World Is on Fire," inheriting a much more aggressive, bluesy approach a la Grand Funk Railroad or even (gasp) MC5. Although there are sonic vestiges and remnants of the band's former self -- such as the disc's pseudo-hippie title track -- by all accounts this was the antithesis of what the band had been up until this point. The dichotomy in the material on Good Morning Starshine is indicative that SAC had pretty much run their course. With managerial and other behind-the-scenes issues continuing to plague them, there are no signs of cohesion within the grooves. The disc is certainly full of strong material, despite the decidedly aimless direction. "Small Package" is reminiscent of the band's sound, circa Wake Up...It's Tomorrow. Likewise, the song is a minor chord masterpiece in the same vein as their previous hit, "Tomorrow." The "California Girls" vocal tag is a nod to the Beach Boys, with whom SAC shared many a late-'60s performance stage. Additionally, either of the two versions of the mid-tempo rocker "Miss Attraction" would have been a welcome addition to their earlier releases. The free-form jamming and lead guitar lines are definitely reminiscent of early Spirit and the highly underrated Bay Area band Kak. The heavier and blues-influenced "Me and the Township," "Off Ramp Road Tramp," and "Hog Child" recall Blue Cheer and even later-era Moby Grape as much as they do the electric British blues of, say, Fleetwood Mac. ~ Lindsay Planer

Fast Cars Distributor: Phantom Import Distributi Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo 2004 release from the Rock N Roll kings that includes the bonus track "Fast Cars" that does not appear on the U.S. edition and lyrics in Japanese. The album debuted at #1 in 15 countries. Much in the manner of their previous album, ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND, U2 largely strips down the stadium-sized approach of years past on the provocatively titled HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB. Whether they were inspired by the garage-rock revival that took place in between the two records, or just felt like making some visceral rock & roll, this 2004 release has as much unbridled energy as such early U2 benchmarks as BOY or WAR. The album starts with a bang, courtesy of the charging, angular "Vertigo," whose driving bass line and shouted vocals announce the band's intentions in no uncertain terms. The bluesy "Love and Peace or Else," and the fuzz-guitar-fueled "All Because of You" follow suit in a similarly high-energy manner. That's not to say that this is a mere rockfest from start to finish, though. There are an equal number of reflective, mid-tempo tunes whose direct emotional impact recalls the more elegiac tracks on OCTOBER, giving the whole album a dynamic depth of field. Whether rocking like madmen or getting in touch with their inner selves, though, the band sounds totally committed throughout ATOMIC BOMB, which has always been the first requirement for a great U2 album. Editorial reviews 4 stars out of 5 - [T]hey continue to pioneer a new future for rock music....What is clear is that there's a new maturity to Bono's lyrics. Marc Bolan's success was peaking at the time he released The Slider in 1972. Coming off hits such as "Bang a Gong" and "Hot Love," he packed Slider with anthems like "Metal Guru" (also a No. 1 British single), "Baby Boomerang," and "Rock On," built around simple rock & roll boogie riffs but burnished to perfection by Tony Visconti's ambitious production. Still, the album upped the heavy rock factor a notch; only "Rip Off" from Electric Warrior hinted at the blazing power of tracks like "Buick Mackane," "Chariot Choogle," and the meaty title track, a lewd-by-inference mixture of driving groove and hushed, between-the-sheets vocals. The ballads "Rabbit Fighter," "Spaceball Ricochet," and "Ballrooms of Mars" are detailed with dramatic string scores, and reveal Bolan's gift for turning non sequiturs into high romanticism SLIDER - Track Listings 1. "John Coltrane, Soultrane - Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese"

Artist: John Coltrane Release Date: Jun 26, 2006 Format: CD Record Label: JVC Victor UPC: 4988002505708 Genre: Jazz Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: Acid Jazz Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Track listing 1. Good Bait 2. I Want to Talk About You 3. You Say You Care 4. Theme For Ernie 5. Russian Lullaby Contributing artists: Art Taylor, Paul Chambers, Red Garland, Arthur Taylor Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo Personnel: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); Red Garland (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Art Taylor (drums). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey on February 7, 1958. Originally released on Prestige (7142). Includes liner notes by Ira Gitler. Japanese limited edition issue of the album classic in a deluxe, miniaturized LP sleeve replica of the original vinyl album artwork. This wonderful 1958 session features the tenor sax legend leading pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Arthur Taylor on a well-chosen five-song set of jazz and pop standards. The album opens with a lively version of Count Basie's "Good Bait" that allows Coltrane, Chambers and Garland to indulge in some exquisite, highly inventive solos. While Coltrane's versions of Billy Eckstine's "I Want To Talk About You" and Fred Lacey's "Theme For Ernie" are pretty much straight ballad performances, his bold, powerful style brings out the soulful feel of these two beautiful, reflective melodies. The closing track--a wild rendition of Irving Berlin's "Russian Lullaby," ends the album on a high note, with Coltrane and Garland racing through this complicated tune with remarkable precision and focus. Superbly recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, SOULTRANE is a true jazz classic and quite simply one of Coltrane's finest albums. Editorial reviews 4 stars out of 5 -- It's a superb set whose standout track is 'Russian Lullaby'... Record Collector

The Ladder is certainly the best work by Yes since Talk, and among the best work they have ever done. And no, I did not start out as an 80's Yes fan. I have been a fan for 30 years. They and Renaissance have always been my favorite bands. The Ladder has some of everything for everybody: the classic epics, the sweet ballads, the hard-edged stuff, the Asian-sounding chants, and, of course, the always amazing guitar playing of Steve Howe. I think it is this variety that has brought the most criticism of this CD. Most Yes fans want EITHER Close to the Edge OR 91025 OR Anderson's solo works. Relax. Open your mind. Be versatile, like Yes has become. Then you will know why a long-time devout progrocker (me), a lyric/melody lover of Fairport Convention (my wife), and a heavy metal lover (my son) all thoroughly enjoyed the tour and can't get enough of this CD. 1. Homeworld (The Ladder) 2. It Will Be a Good Day (The River) 3. Lightning Strikes 4. Can I? 5. Face to Face 6. If Only You Knew 7. To Be Alive (Hep Yadda) 8. Finally 9. The Messenger 10. New Language 11. Nine Voices (Longwalker)

Includes liner notes by Ed Townsend, David Ritz, Ben Edmonds and Harry Weinger. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Relishing the artistic freedom afforded by the success of WHAT'S GOING ON, Marvin Gaye recorded this sultry paean to sex. Where its predecessor relied on complex arrangements, the straightforward sound of LET'S GET IT ON focused attention on its tight rhythms, strong melodies, and Gaye's expressive, nuanced singing. For sheer sensual come-on, it's hard to beat the title track, one of the finest celebrations of the joys of human chemistry ever recorded. But the self-explanatory "Come Get to This" and "You Sure Love to Ball" aren't far behind in terms of passionate execution and visceral impact. Though LET'S GET IT ON has its reflective moments, notably the beautiful ballad "Distant Lover," Gaye's focus is on the here and now, and the intensity of his vocal performances and the silky, fluid feel of the arrangements inform the sensual "carpe diem" philosophy. Just as WHAT'S GOING ON opened the floodgates for political soul music, LET'S GET IT ON defined the "lover man" genre populated by luminaries like Al Green, Barry White, and Isaac Hayes. Editorial reviews 3 stars out of 5 - ...His deliberations on the boundaries between love and sex are beautifully sung... Uncut (20030501) 4 stars out of 5 - ...A perfect seduction-groove record... "Aphrodite's Child, End Of The World - Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese"

Artist: Aphrodite's Child Release Date: Jan 19, 2004 Format: CD Record Label: Vertigo UPC: 4988005353764 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: Mainstream Rock Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Distributor: MSI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: DDD Japanese limited edition in an LP-style slipcase. The Japanese limited edition twofer comprising the Aphrodite's Child albums END OF THE WORLD and RAIN & TEARS comes in an LP-replica sleeve. CD comes in Jpn LP Sleeve. The debut album of the only Greek 1960s rock band to make an international impact could have almost been the work of a foppish British psychedelic group on the cusp of turning progressive, if not for the notable foreign accent on the (entirely English-language) vocals. The use of the Mellotron in particular recalls the early psychedelic Moody Blues, as do the mild influences of classical music in the keyboards and melodies. If there's something distinct about Aphrodite's Child, it's a certain Mediterranean sentimental streak to both those melodies and the songs, which get more overtly romantic than virtually any British (or American) psychedelic band would have thought suitable. Though Aphrodite's Child stood up well to the British bands in their level of instrumental accomplishment and production, it's an uneven record. The more heart-wringing numbers will be way too sappy for many listeners, some of the hard-rocking songs have overwrought soulful vocals, and there's a general awkwardness that's inevitable when bands are singing in a non-native language. But this epic melancholic grandeur also makes Aphrodite's Child stick out to some degree among second-division psychedelic acts, and their use of skin-crawling psychedelic effects, while dated, is quite imaginative (especially on the closing "Day of the Fool"). The title cut could well have been a standard European pop ballad without those effects, and is certainly the catchiest song here, if the drippiest, though it was the yet daintier "Rain and Tears" that gave them a hit in parts of Europe. ~ Richie Unterberger

"George Harrison, Electronic Sounds - Mini LP Replica In A CD - Japanese"

Artist: George Harrison Release Date: Jun 27, 2005 F ormat: CD Record Label: Emi UPC: 4988006830370 Genre: Rock Duration: Album or EP Sub-Genre: Experimental Rock Special Attributes: Import, Remastered, Special Edition Details Distributor: Phantom Import Distributi Recording mode: Stereo Hard as it is to believe, George Harrison, guitar picker, was also an electronic music pioneer, as these two lengthy, abstract tone poems for early-vintage Moog synthesizer reveal. A naif in the electronic sphere, George had a lot of help putting this music together, particularly from ace California electronic composer Bernie Krause. (Interestingly, Krause was originally given prominent credit in the artist's childlike artwork on the LP cover, but when the album came out, Krause's name was almost, but not quite, obscured by silver paint, and the CD erases it entirely.) The main difference between the CD reissue and the original LP is that the identities of the two works apparently have been reversed; "Under the Mersey Wall" is really "No Time or Space" and vice-versa. Accordingly, Krause is given "assistance" credit for the latter piece instead of the former, which is significant because "No Time or Space" is the masterpiece of the record. Dramatically structured, unearthly in its pitchless writhing, flamboyantly manipulating pink and white noise from the opening electronic gun battle onward, "No Time or Space" is still an entertaining listening experience, and some of its passages would turn up later in the "I Remember Jeep" jam from Harrison's All Things Must Pass album. The shorter "Mersey Wall," recorded in Harrison's Esher bungalow with his own Moog, is a low-key, drifting affair, not quite as virtuosic in its handling of abstract sound, nor nearly as theatrical. Though scoffed at when they were released, these pieces can hold their own and then some with many of those of other, more seriously regarded electronic composers. And when you consider that synthesizers were only capable of playing one note at a time and sounds could not be stored or recalled with the push of a button, the achievement becomes even more remarkable. Alas, George never followed up on this direction, which, like the Zapple label, was abandoned after this release. [The sound is slightly sharper in the CD remastering, exposing more extraneous distortion and hum.] ~ Richard S. Ginell
