The Kinks: Ray Davies (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Dave Davies (vocals, guitar); Pete Quaife (vocals, bass); Mick Avory (drums). Additional personnel: Jimmy Page (guitar); Bobby Graham (drums). Includes liner notes by Herbert A. Belkin and original release liner notes by Brian Sommerville. These two albums were The Kink's first and third. Sandwiched between them was KINKS-SIZED and, amazingly, all three were released in one furious year, 1965. The band started out under the spell of the same bluesy American rock & roll that fueled both the Merseybeat bands as well as their grittier counterparts (most notably the Rolling Stones). However, mixed in with the Chuck Berry covers were some astoundingly confident originals by Ray Davies--from "You Really Got Me" and "All Day And All Of the Night" to the softer approaches broached on "Something Better Beginning," "Don't Ever Change" and "So Long." And if that weren't enough, younger brother Dave Davies' big fisted guitar chords worked in tandem with the rhythm section of Pete Quaife and Mick Avory, making The Kinks one of the finest rock & roll bands to jump out of any decade. Editorial reviews ...Rendered in startling stereo detail..YOU REALLY GOT ME...reveals a deep affection for sloppy swamp blues....The monaural, slightly fuzzier textures of the more coherent KINDA KINKS emphasize Ray Davies' staggering growth as a songwriter....consider this essential and then some. "The Police, Synchronicity (only one)"MFSL 24K GOLD CD, voted the #50 Rock n Roll Album of All Time THE POLICE - SYNCHRONICITY - MFSL SEALED 24 Karat Gold CD. Long out of print and one of the last remaining in the world. This sonic masterpiece is rated the 50th best recording in the history of Rock N Roll. Synchronicity is the last full-length studio recording from the Police, the final evolution of their sound, and the album that yielded their greatest success. It is a brilliant pop record, but it's something more, as well. The singles, particularly "Every Breath You Take," "King of Pain," and "Wrapped Around Your Finger," while pure gems by themselves, are an integral part of the album's musical and lyrical texture. As the title indicates, the album's intellectual content is inspired by C.G. Jung's psychosocial connecting principle and it manifests lyrically in some of the most evocative imagery Sting has ever created. Musically, the band defines a sonic space with arrangements that are often spare to the point of transparency. The songs are constructed from delicate arpeggios and eerie washes of guitar, sinuous keyboard lines, solid, repetitive bass figures, and the signature Stewart Copeland drum sound, all topped by Sting's voice moving through a wide range of pitch and sentiment. Synchronicity is a collection that creates and sustains a mood in the sensitive listener, a feeling that remains after the last note has died away. A benchmark album from a tremendously influential band, it will stand the test of time as a genuine classic Track Listings 1. Synchronicity I 2. Walking in Your Footsteps 3. O My God 4. Mother 5. Miss Gradenko 6. Synchronicity II 7. Every Breath You Take 8. King of Pain 9. Wrapped Around Your Finger 10. Tea in the Sahara 11. Murder by Numbers SKU Number: UDCD 511 |

"The Searchers, It's The Searchers & Take Me For What I'm Worth (2 LPs in 1 CD)- MFSL Factory Sealed Gold CD"MFSL 24K GOLD CD - THE SEARCHERS 2-CD SET- MFSL 24-KARAT GOLD LIMITED EDITION LONG OUT OF PRINT SEALED CD. The four LP's included on 2 CDs are "It's The Searchers", "Take Me For What It's Worth", "Meet The Searchers", and "Sound Like The Searchers". All four were originally released in the mid 60's on PYE Records and are MFSL Exclusives pressed directly from the original session master tapes to 24 Karat Gold CD's. The Searchers is a heavenly trip down memory lane, a reference work on the origins of Mercy Beat (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, etc. that famous liverpool sound that took America by storm) which started the British Invasion and a glimpse into the influence of The Searchers on Power Pop. In the early sixties, having experienced the British Invasion music first hand, I have always been partial to The Searchers music. If you are not familiar with The Searchers but a fan of British Invasion music, you will find this Collection to be the golden nugget you've been missing. The origins of The Searchers sound are loud and clear from glorious Everly Brothers vocal harmonies, Buddy Holly's Rock a Billy, with a Motown and blues influence to round out their sound. There are many cuts on this 2-CD 50-tracks 4-LP compilation that deserve standing ovations and you can see why they were one of the top British groups of the era. Many of their Top 10 hits were SWEETS FOR MY SWEET, LOVE POTION #9, TWIST & SHOUT, LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL, NEEDLES AND PINS, DON'T THROW YOUR LOVE AWAY, EACH TIME, TAKE ME FOR WHAT I'M WORTH, I'LL BE DOGGONE, HIGH HEELED SNEAKERS, and 40 more tracks giving you the best value no only in the 24-Karat Gold CD market but in the entire audiophile industry. By the early 1970s, rock & roll had been around long enough to begin to examine its own past. In the States, this resulted in Sha Na Na, but in Great Britain, where the popular culture of the young was more complex and coded, the Who's QUADROPHENIA was the most powerful example of this nostalgic view. Reviews at the time focused primarily on the obscure psychological aspect of the story--supposedly, the four sides of the original double-album set are meant to examine the four sides of the main character's personality, each one represented by a different member of the Who. However, the most interesting aspect of QUADROPHENIA is its seamy but poetic depiction of London's early-'60s Mod subculture, from which the Who originally sprang. Set during the weekend of a climactic seaside gang fight between the Mods and their archenemies the Rockers, Townshend's story follows Jimmy, the archetypal Mod. The impressionistic songs tell an elliptical tale, but also function on their own as vintage '70s Who at their hard-rock height--the sneering "The Punk and the Godfather," the driving "5:15" and the anthemic, redemptive closer "Love, Reign O'er Me" are among Townshend's finest work. Editorial reviews 5 Stars - Indispensible - ...it abides as one of The Who's peaks because...its instant, push-button atmosphere is always lifted from the realms of ham by some heartfelt Daltrey shout'n'croon, a bit of comedy Moon...and the anthemic elegance of the last two tracks... "The Who, Quadrophenia (2 CDs) - Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD"MFSL 24K Gold CD, Japan 1st Generation Ultradisc Pressing "Last Copy". The Who revisited the rock opera concept with another double-album opus, this time built around the story of a young mod's struggle to come of age in the mid-'60s. But rather than the surrealistic subject matter that comprised Tommy, Quadrophenia finds The Who re-examining the roots of their own birth in mod culture. There's plenty of great music especially "The Real Me," "The Punk Meets the Godfather," "I'm One," "Bell Boy," and "Love, Reign O'er Me." SKU Number: UDCD 2-550 |

"The Who, Who Are You - MFSL Gold CD"The Who, Who Are You [Gold Disc CD] Track listing 1. New Song 2. Had Enough 3. 905 4. Sister Disco 5. Music Must Change 6. Trick Of The Light 7. Guitar And Pen 8. Love Is Coming Down 9. Who Are You 10. Guitar And Pen (alternate version) Details Producer: Glyn Johns, Jon Astley Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes The Who: Roger Daltrey (vocals); Pete Townsend (vocals, guitar, piano, synthesizer); John Entwistle (vocals, horns, synthesizer, bass); Keith Moon (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Rod Argent (piano, synthesizer); Andy Fairweather-Low (background vocals). By the end of the '70s, the original version of the Who was reaching the end of its tether (Keith Moon was nearing the end of his life). WHO ARE YOU can be seen as something of a swan song for the spirit that ignited the rock & roll juggernaut that was the Who in its prime. The increased prominence of synthesizers here (the electronic flavoring of the title track recalls "Baba O'Riley") points towards the direction the post-Moon '80s version of the band would take. Instead of casting aspersions on socio-political ills, Townshend was casting glances askance at current musical trends ("Sister Disco") and his own occupation ("Guitar and Pen"). Entwistle's bass still rumbles melodically through the tunes in the grand style, and Daltrey's wounded-beast roar is at its most impassioned on such songs as "Had Enough." The end of an era was just around the corner, but the band blazed away regardless, making WHO ARE YOU the last must-have Who album. SKU Number: * |

"The Who, Who's Next - MFSL Gold CD"THE WHO MFSL 24 KARAT GOLD CD - FACTORY SEALED & IN COLLECTORS CONDITION WITH NO STORES STICKERS EVER ATTACHED. While both THE WHO SELL OUT and TOMMY have their passionate devotees, WHO'S NEXT is the Who's masterpiece. Originally, Pete Townshend intended these songs for an even larger-scale project than TOMMY, a massive multimedia extravaganza called LIFEHOUSE that the songwriter eventually abandoned. Townshend was initially keen to keep at least the basic structure of the story for the Who's next record, but associate producer Glyn Johns convinced him that a straightforward single disc of the project's best songs would make a stronger album. Wise counsel indeed, because WHO'S NEXT is by far the group's most focused and powerful effort. Bracketed by "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again," two classic rock epics that did more to advance the cause of synthesizers in mainstream rock than Kraftwerk's entire career, this album is basically flawless, ranging in mood from the heartbreaking "The Song Is Over" to John Entwistle's bitterly funny "My Wife." Although nearly every song on the record, barring only the bluesy acoustic interlude "Love Ain't for Keeping," is a saturation-level FM-rock-radio mainstay, WHO'S NEXT is that rarity--an intimately familiar album that never gets tiresome. Track listing 1. Baba O'Riley 2. Bargain 3. Love Ain't For Keeping 4. My Wife 5. Song Is Over, The 6. Getting In Tune 7. Going Mobile 8. Behind Blue Eyes 9. Won't Get Fooled Again 10. "Thelonious Monk, Live At Monterey Jazz Festival '63 Vol. 1 - Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD" Live At Monterey Jazz Festival '63 Volume 1 - Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD Track listing 1. I'm Getting Sentimental Over You 2. Well, You Needn't 3. Evidence 4. I Mean You Producer: Karl Emil Knudsen Recording type: Live Recording mode: Mixed Thelonious Monk Quartet: Thelonious Monk (piano); Charlie Rouse (tenor saxophone); John Ore (bass); Frank Dunlop (drums). Recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey, California on September 21 & 22, 1963. Includes liner notes by Mark Gardner. Thelonious Monk's appearance at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival was a turning point of sorts in his career, and from that point on he was a major draw at various jazz festivals. Monk with his quartet appeared for two nights at the Monterey Jazz festival in September of 1963. VOLUME ONE is culled from both of those nights and features three of his originals along with "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" (which marvelously shows Monk's ability to take a gorgeous and familiar melody and make it completely his own). After the '50s Monk's writing was slowing down and he was revisiting his increasingly praised work from the previous two decades. The quartet he kept throughout '60s are perfectly meshed with that work, playing their instruments as if they're each an extension of Monk's heart and mind. Editorial reviews ...The sound is as alive as the music...this is MFSL's real engineering accomplishment...Jone Ore and Frank Dunlop's ability to spur on Monk and Rouse is made very clear. Opening with Monk's own "Light Blue," the quartet also visits "Criss Cross," "Epistrophy," and "Bright Mississippi." Along with the standard "Sweet And Lovely," this set offers everything that was magical about this quartet and that makes this music absolutely timeless and hard to label as anything other than "Monk's music." This is classic TRAFFIC with the songs: "Feeling All Right" "40,000 Headmen" and "Pearly Queen". Means To An End Details Producer: Jimmy Miller Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes Traffic: Dave Mason (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica); Steve Winwood (vocals, guitar, piano, harpsichord, organ, bass); Jim Capldi (vocals, drums, percussion); Chris Wood (flute, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, bass, percussion, bells). Engineers: Glyn Johns, Eddie Kramer, Brian Humphries. Originally released on Island (9081). On their second album, the cottage dwellers from Berkshire refined their hippie pop into a looser and vastly more mature work: evocative tales of nonsense in the beautiful "40,000 Headmen," joyful malarkey with Mason's "You Can All Join In," and one of his finest songs, "Feelin Alright," which was a signpost to his imminent departure. Throughout the record Jim Capaldi's understated yet steady drums demonstrate just what a great rock drummer should do, and Chris Wood's sound is everywhere, with trills on flute and blasts on saxophone. TRAFFIC is a record that will always be meant for glorious sunny days. Editorial reviews ...Dave Mason is a top-notch rock and roll composer and the Steve Winwood/Jim Capaldi team is equally good...coming up with material on a level with the Young Rascals' best work... "Traffic, Shootout At the Fantasy Factory - Factory Sealed MFSL Gold CD"MFSL 24K GOLD CD - Factory Sealed Track listing 1. Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory 2. Roll Right Stones 3. Evening Blue 4. Tragic Magic 5. Uninspired, (Sometimes I Feel So) Details Playing time: 37 min. Producer: Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood Distributor: n/a Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: AAD Album notes Traffic: Steve Winwood (vocals, guitar, keyboards; Jim Capaldi (vocals, drums); Chris Wood (saxophone, flute); Rick Grech (bass); Jim Gordon (drums); Rebop Kwaku Baah (percussion); Roger Hawkins, David Hood. Recorded at Strawberry Hill Studios, Jamaica. SHOOT OUT AT THE FANTASY FACTORY is the second of Traffic's expanded line-up studio albums, following 1971's THE LOW SPARK OF HIGH-HEELED BOYS. The five extended pieces here have little in common with the pastoral, psychedelic folk-pop of Traffic's first four albums, betraying instead Steve Winwood's roots in the Spenser Davis Group and foreshadowing his later solo success in the '80s. Traffic toured constantly before recording FANTASY FACTORY, and the album's extended grooves are clearly born of these performance experiences. The band's rhythm section was the famed Muscle Shoals Studio bass and drums team of David Hood and Roger Hawkins. But the character of the songs does not depend solely on rhythm. This material is highly inventive and memorably melodic, showcasing Winwood's passionately soulful singing. Throughout, Chris Wood's saxophone and flute are a supple foil to Winwood's voice. FANTASY FACTORY--along with the live albums of the same era--effectively represents this expanded incarnation of Traffic and the jazz-influenced, extended jam format they were focusing on at the time. Editorial reviews 3 out of 5 stars - ...Imbues the jazz rock of LOW SPARK with R&B balladry....tracks such as the pensive Evening Blue show a band at the height of its powers.
